Seating Distance Question

Is a 92" diagonal screen (80 x 45 inches) too big for a room where seating will be 12 feet from the screen???

If anyone has a similar set up please let me know if viewing movies at this distance is ok.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Seating Distance Question

My seating distance (eyes to screen) is about 13' from my 103" screen. I think it is great.

Re: Seating Distance Question

My current 80x60" screen is in a room (since 1998) with a maximum lenth of 19' . The last row of persons (my wife and myself) are normally sitting at a distance of about 13', children and guest sitting usually in front.

We think it's excellent.

In my new HT (not ready yet) the screen will be 107x60" maximum (viewing area adjustable), and the maximum viewing distance 15'. Two rows will be in front of that. Distance of front row to screen 8' (children love that).

Hope this answers your question.

Re: Seating Distance Question

I often find this viewing distance calculator to be helpful:

I plugged in your numbers and it seems between 10.3 and 14.5 feet is good.

Re: Seating Distance Question

Cees - thank you for your input as well. It is true, everytime kids wach a movie, they prefer to be on the floor in bean bag chairs - the closer the better for them.

Bob - thank you for the link to the distance calculator - I tried to find it yesterday - but didnt have any luck.

I move in to my new home this weekend and am very anxious to set the HT up.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Re: Seating Distance Question

I sit 17' or so feet away from my 100" screen and wish I could sit a bit closer. My CRT projector is on the floor though so that isn't an option. Unfortunately I can't put the projector on the ceiling as my ceiling couldn't handle it.

Re: Seating Distance Question

My eyes are about 13' from my 126" screen. The back row is 19' away. It's perfect. Can't imagine it being smaller.
