The show that wasn't supposed to return after the network failed to initially renew it and its showrunner succumbed to cancer comes back after all with a new writing staff and a new home city. LOVE the Doors promos.

Not only did they kill off a beloved character, they threw away the series' entire mythology in one episode. Michael Piller must be rolling in his grave...

Adam, I know what you mean.

Unless,

He's not really dead and is on some undercover thing. I know it's a pretty far reach but if you think about it Johnny's vision of Walt's "death" never did really show him dying. Johnny would have to be in on it, too.

I haven't heard anything about Chris Bruno wanting to leave the show or anything but maybe he's going to do some other work and my admittedly "out there" scenario would give him a chance to come back.

Then again, maybe they're going to end the show this season anyway.

My guess is that when they moved production to Montreal they wanted to save money by not rebuilding all of the sets. This way they could skip the Bannerman household set altogether. I think I'm more pissed about them wrapping up the apocolypse storyline that we've been following for six seasons in a neat little bow in a way that doesn't involve Johnny than I am about Walt's death. And I'm very pissed about Walt's death. It feels like the show's being dumbed down so that the character relationships can be less complex and things can go back to "Johnny saves _____ after seeing ______" every single week, without any pesky continuing story.

I'm not super pissed about it but it is pretty uncool that they

tied up the major story of the series in one episode. However, I think I dislike that they just got rid of Chris Bruno, John L. Adams, David Ogden Stiers, Sean Patrick Flanery and Martin Donovan in one episode more than dumping the story. Obviously, the new characters will played by Montreal actors (so they don't have to spend the money on the Vancouver actors- flights, hotel, whatever) and they'll give Nicole de Boer the rare appearance. I can understand the financial realities of the show but I just hope that they figure out what Walt was investigating and then end the show. Even The X-Files could keep the alien colonization story going after S6 since the aliens were still out there, The Dead Zone seems to have completely solved their problems and wrapped up the major story but still have the rest of the season (or seasons) to go.

Re: The Dead Zone

Personally, I'm very pleased with the direction that this indicates the series is going. I think the series has been stagnating, and this change could be just the kick-in-the-butt the series needs.

Re: The Dead Zone

I Liked the Mythology, and I liked the characters, I like the standalone's but it's no secret that they wanted to Jetison the Arc a long time ago, so they finally did it, still let Johnny find out what Walt was doing and end it. The Xfiles never really had a good conclusion, I have the feeling this Mytholohy did'nt really have an ending either so maybe it's good they wrapped it up , but still by Dumping the Opening Credits (to make room for more commercials) and half the cast is not something instilling confidence

Re: The Dead Zone

I can't really argue with the idea that the show's mythology had stagnated but I just wish that Johnny could have been more involved with stopping Armageddon. The way that it worked out, he just kinda lucked into it. It just seems strange to me that a show that had a plot that ran for nearly the entire series, now will have no over arching story.

You're probably right but I was hoping that they were trying to keep the surprise of some of the actors leaving (and new characters arriving) a secret by dropping the credits just for this episode.

And according to the synopsis of episode 3,

Stillson is in it. I'm glad that even if they're dumping the mythology that they're keeping Sean Patrick Flanery for some appearances. I hope Bruce comes back soon.

Re: The Dead Zone

From the previews oof next week show Johnny is still following up on the Letter Walt had, so it does'nt look like they are doing away with an Arc, totally, and I'm not sure Armeggeggon is gone any more than Johnny's Vision of Walt Dying was changed. They obviously cannot go the path of the movie, which had Smith Assasinating Stillson.

The writer's commentary indicates that we won't find out what the story is about the letter until

the last episode of the season
. My suspicion about the letter is that
Warning Spoiler! Click to show
it has something to do with his parentage, but then I might be forgetting something that occurred earlier in the series
. It does seem that the Stillson Armageddon is gone. I think that the episode would have been stronger if Johnny had a vision that by allowing the confrontation between Purdy and Janus, he would stop the Armageddon, but at the cost of Walt's life. Then he would have had to make the big decision.

I was surprised to hear in some of the behind-the-scene interviews that indeed

I thought the same thing, it would've made Johnny's role in the resolution alot stronger, and imagine having to tell that to Walt's wife.

Anyone love for the new sherrif in town?

At least we know how they solved the Bannerman's house set issue (by having Sarah and JJ move in with Johnny).

The jury is still out for me on the sheriff. It took her a little while but she seemed to be smart enough (and recall enough Cleaves Mills history) that she should just go with what he was saying.

I'm glad they've started to bring Johnny and Sarah together. I'd be happier if they didn't have to kill off Walt to do that but what the heck.

Re: The Dead Zone

Even though I'm still really down on the direction this season has taken, I have to admit that tonight's episode was really solid. The shot of Johnny walking along the surface of the shuttle blew me away (definitely one of those moments I wouldn't mind be a psychic!) and his vision during the delivery brought me to tears. Considering how much he lost during his coma, it was wonderful that the universe let him have that one excruciatingly important moment — the birth of his son — back. The flip flopping of Walt and Johnny's positions was pretty heartbreaking, too.

Re: The Dead Zone

The last 5 minutes of the episode were some of the best of this series (Johnny getting to experience the birth of Sarah and Walt's child and also his child from years past when he was in the coma was done very well), the other chunk of the episode was okay until the last 10 minutes of the main storyline.

Re: The Dead Zone season 6

I really enjoyed the episode too. For as much as I didn't like what happened in the premiere (eventhough it wasn't a bad episode), I have to say that the episodes from this season have been better than most of the episodes in the last two years.

Like others, I thought the end sequence with Johnny seeing J.J. born was very good. And I'm always happy when Sean Patrick Flanery is on the show.

Re: The Dead Zone season 6

I'm so glad they got rid of Bruce and especially Walt.

Bruce's character didn't have much to do during the last few shows from last season other than to be the "token angry black man".

With Walt, the role was not challenging enough for the actor. It's a shame the writers never again brought to light Walt's affair with the reporter in season 2 (?). Maybe if they had made Walt more complex, it would have been interesting, rather than having him be Robin to Johnny's Batman.

For this season, it seems the writers are looking to hook up Stilson and Sarah, especially with Stilson appearing to be a little more human this time around.

How long is that going to last?
And the fact they got a new kid to play J.J., kudos! I hope the writers develop J.J.'s psychic powers as well.

The last kid scared me....shades of "Children of the Damned!"

I'm not nice...people just make that assumption of me.

After whta Stillson tried in season 3, I doubt Sarah would hook up with him.

I didn't get that feeling from the character at all. I've no trouble seeing anyone of any race playing the role.

That's really the problem I see; I couldn't imagine her ever trusting him, but the actress has to read the lines in the script she's given.

Looks like JJ's going down Johnny's path.

And is just me or are the commercials worse this season? 5 minutes of show, 4 minutes of commercials, it felt like.

Re: The Dead Zone season 6

Since I surf during the commercials, I don't really keep track of the intervals as much. I did like how JJ got a taste of what Johnny has to put up with due to his future/past flashes.

This seems more than a rumor -- it was confirmed by the creator of the show.

It was pretty much inevitable, I think. The Dead Zone just hasn't been what it was, for a couple of years.

When they dumped the majority of the Cast you knew it's days were numbered, still it had a decent run, and the last episode provided some closure.
