The problem with Richard Diamond is that the package is split between Paramount and 4 Star ownership.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

It's a shame that an entire era of TV history is vanishing before us. With the removal of most of the vintage WB shows from the American Life Channel in favor of the seen-to-death Fox/MTM shows of the 1970s and 80s, that channel is following the same regrettable path as TVLAND, in chasing an under-40 audience. There should be a premuim classic TV channel, like the way TCM reverently treats classic film (and the way AMC used to when it was a real channel). Imagine seeing shows like these (some which haven't been syndicated in years) commercial free and in new remastered prints:

Our Miss Brooks
December Bride
My Three Sons
The Mod Squad
Adventures In Paradise
It Takes A Thief
The Governor and J.J.
Here Come The Brides
The Farmer's Daughter
Father Knows Best
The High Chapparal
Peyton Place
The Defenders
The Nurses
Dr. Kildare
Ben Casey
and so on.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

Looks like VCI will be releasing "Burke's Law" March 4th. Check out the two promos featuring guest star Elizabeth Montgomery.

If "Honey West" ends up looking this good, I just may have to double dip.

A friend of mine e-mailed me a few days back to let me know that VCI's asked him to write the liner notes for this release. He asked me if there were any extras I'd like to see, and since I'm stymied to come up with any I open the floor for suggestions.

Well, for starters, Ivan, and if they're up to it, interviews and/or episode commentaries from Gene Barry and Gary Conway. But also, if they exist, bloopers/outakes, promotional clips, etc. Gene Barry did interviews for the "War of the Worlds" theatrical release a few years ago, and Gary Conway was more recently featured in interview segments for "Land of the Giants" (a clip which can be seen at Amazon.com), so it would be great if either of them could be part of the release. But with a March 4 release date for season 1, volume 1, they'd have to hurry! Maybe it would be more realistic for season 1, volume 2 since VCI is going the split season route on "Burke's Law."

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

Also, perhaps an edited clip reel of "The Babes of Burke's Law." The recent Time/Life release of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. did something like this, but really shorted the idea. Both shows featured a calvacade of some of the hotter ingenues as well as established actresses of the day. It wouldn't cost much extra to have an editor highlight their sexiest scenes. I think the Star Trek series did the same thing.

They could also do an edit clip of all the great old-time Hollywood actors and legends who appeared on the show. It's just a nice extra to see them all in one place. Plus, the same edit clip could be used to promo the series on YouTube or elsewhere.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

The "pilot" for this series was, I believe, an episode of The Dick Powell Show, starring Powell as Amos Burke. A worthy extra, I would think, and not requiring too much effort from the studio.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

I concur with Bob and Wayne. Interviews with Barry and Conway would indeed be welcome as well as a guest star retrospective. A spotlight on Herschel Burke Gilbert, the composer who provided the music to the series would be a nice touch as well.

It is called Who Killed Julie Greer? and aired 9/26/61 as the first episode of the Dick Powell Show. That would be a perfect extra.

Don't expect for Barry and Conway to do a joint interview- apparently the two were at odds on the set of Burke's Law. I only hope we get newly remastered prints for the DVDs.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

One extra I'd definitely pay for would be an interactive map of L.A. sort of like the one on the L.A. Confidential DVD. I bought the series (R2/PAL) mainly for the exterior shots of L.A. in the 60s and the guest stars.

I agree- perhaps they'll change their minds in time before the set comes out. Now- what about Honey West?

That art doesn't say anything about what season. And the four cases are listed as volumes 1-4. Could this be art for the entire 2 seasons set instead of just the first half-season volume, and these be multi-disc cases? Just wondering. You're right, it's a lot of wasted space for a half season.

I doubt it, Wayne . . . . . it's been VCI's intent to release "Burke's Law" in the split season format. From VCI's web site . . . .

"VCI will be releasing season one in two separate collector’s sets of 16 episodes each."

I have sent an E-mail to VCI suggesting that they consider using slimline cases in the future for multi-disc releases.

Good deal. Ordered. Did we ever get any more feedback on our solicited extras suggestions posted on this thread? That's a tight window to get something in. Perhaps on Volume 2.

Wayne, according to the most recent news article at TVShowsonDVD.com for "Burke's Law," the extras will include vintage commercials, a collector's booklet, and a few other items, but none of the bonus items that were recommended in this thread. I'd guess that, yes, the window was too tight for the volume 1 release but maybe we'll see a few of the suggestions implemented for volume 2.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

For what it's worth, VCI has now posted a full description of the new "Burke's Law" set at its web site . . . . .

BURKE'S LAW - SEASON 1: Part 1

The description says "color" but that's not the case, it's in black & white. The good news is that VCI has gone back to the 35 mm master, so these should look good. Still no definitive release dates for "Honey West" or "Zane Grey Theater."

I never realized that when I received HW, but now that I think of it, makes sense. Not terrible prints per se, but just rather ruddy, low contrast in appearance.

I've seldom found the need to double dip in the past, but I guess I'll have to when VCI finally releases this.

Good article. And pretty ironic: Amos Burke's sidekick, Tim (Gary Conway) ended up becoming the "real" multi-millionaire owning a successful vineyard.

Re: Burke's Law/Honey West

That's hilarious that, of the "Burke's Law" guest stars, Gary Conway only remembered the sexy gals. About ten years ago I interviewed one of the series regulars from "Arrest and Trial" and all, I mean ALL, he could remember from his one-year stint on the show was what a great rack Joey Heatherton (a one-time guest star) had.

Of course Gary Conway would only remember the female costars- as I said before, he and Gene Barry DESPISED each other!
