If you haven't had a single glitch with your A1, I wouldn't part with it under any circumstance. No sense pushing your luck.
I had the XA2 briefly before deciding to send it back and stick with the A1. When I bought the XA2, I was hoping for the REON chip to make some of the crappier looking DVDs watchable and get rid of some of the 1st gen glitches a thing of the past.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but neither happened. I didn't notice any PQ improvement between the two units and the XA2 had more playback problems with HD-DVD than my A1. However, many others have not had the same experience, so YMMV.
The one plus I had was that the load times were much improved over the A1. I don't know if I would've been quite as quick to send it back if it had been at it's current price point. Then again, I don't feel inclined to revisit it at this point, either... but that's mainly because the continual playback issues I run into are souring me on the whole format.
