Anyways, I asked him about Spider Man 4 because of the rumor I read that he was going to be in it. He said "I can't talk about it, but who says I died in the first one?"

Given how poor most of the story choices were in S-m3, it's easy to take his inclusion here at face value and expect something like "oh what do you know...he didn't die after all"
but then again, Cliff Robertson returned for #2, and he most certainly was dead in the first film.
If I was forced to make the best of Papajohns inclusion in this film, I would use him in a similar capacity- the vision of a guilty conscious.

Re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

Methinks these two news nuggets might have more to do with each other than anybody's realized. Raimi is talking about the potential of vampires in this installment, so what if the mugger from the original film isn't dead but...undead?

interesting indeed
is it?

"Gary Ross is back in the saddle with his “Seabiscuit” star Tobey Maguire.

Ross has come aboard to rewrite the script for “Spider-Man 4,” the Sam Raimi-directed film that Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios will put into production early next year.

While Maguire has toplined both of the films Ross has directed (“Pleasantville” is the other), the “Spider-Man 4” deal comes more from Ross’s growing relationship with Sony.

Ross is rewriting to direct a Columbia Pictures film about cyclist Lance Armstrong. Though the film's focus is on Armstrong's recovery from testicular cancer to the triumph of winning seven Tour de France titles, the project has gained new relevance after Armstrong un-retired, returned to the Tour, and zoomed from back in the pack to second place this week.

Ross had also worked closely with the studio on “Tokyo Suckerpunch,” the film he expected to direct next. That picture got postponed when Anne Hathaway -- who planned to star with Maguire -- developed a scheduling problem.

The “Spider-Man 4” script was originally written by James Vanderbilt, and then rewritten by David Lindsay-Abaire."

Spiderman franchise is awesome. All of their movies have been a hit. Really waiting for the 4th part to get released. I think they will come up with something good this time. I found something interesting check this out;

"According to one source, not only will Baker finally become The Lizard in Spider-Man 4, but we'll also have to contend with a certain villain known as Carnage. Spider-Man 4 would have to go a little bit "darker" than its predecessors to accurately capture the Carnage story, which focuses on a serial killer called Cletus Kasady who comes into contact with some of Eddie Brock's "symbiote" goo while they're both stuck in prison. (Connors, on the other hand, becomes Lizard after injecting himself with reptilian DNA in an effort to re-grow his missing arm."

The Lizard would be fantastic.

Carnage though?.......meh.  Just a second rate version of Venom.  Been there, done that.  The previous rumor of Morbeus appeals to me much more.

The Spider-Man mythos has arguably the richest rogues gallery in comics (the only competition would be Batman's)  so there's much interesting villains to choose from which I'd like to see imagined on the silver screen.

Here's hoping only half of that rumor is true.

to me, spiderman 3 was ruined by the inclusion of venom and i think 4 would be just as bad with carnage.

and entire movie can be dedicated to lizard and be really good. there is a ton of backstory to him, as much as there was on the goblin.

Well I enjoyed Spider-Man 3 more than most and I'm just glad they included Venom or any other villain, Sandman was boring as hell, and just a visual effects showcase.

I  hope Spider-Man 4 gets darker and nastier and please stop with the constantly crying Peter Parker, I think we've had enough of that.

If Raimi didn't like Venom, I doubt he likes Carnage. So the chance of Carnage in part 4 is pretty slim, I think/hope.
Lizard sounds like a good idea, and I would really like to see Dylan Baker as a comic book villain.

Never go out with anyone who thinks Fellini is a type of cheese

I really liked Spider-Man 3 as well.  It had some problems, but I had no more issues than part 3 than I did with 1 or 2 (although the screenwriting was dodgier, I know that).

I am excited about seeing this franchise continue and I'm happy that Raimi didn't abandon the series.

Universal, please release Streets of Fire on Blu-ray.

Here is some more interesting news from Variety.com

http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118007333.html?categoryid=13&cs=1

Quote:
As Sony Pictures Entertainment preps a fourth installment of "Spider-Man" to begin production early next year, the studio has quietly engaged screenwriter James Vanderbilt to pen "Spider-Man 5" and "Spider-Man 6."

Vanderbilt was the first writer on "Spider-Man 4." Director Sam Raimi brought on "Rabbit Hole" playwright David Lindsay-Abaire to rewrite him, and Gary Ross is now rewriting that script. The studio is enthusiastic about where it stands as the picture begins prepping for an early 2010 production start for a May 2011 release.

Raimi didn't embrace all of Vanderbilt's ideas, but execs at Columbia Pictures and Marvel Studios have. Vanderbilt has been hired to pen the fifth and sixth movies, which have an interconnected storyline. That's what was originally discussed when Vanderbilt signed on to write "Spider-Man 4," but the idea of shooting a fourth and fifth film back to back with the original cast was scrapped.

Spider Man 6? How about a showdown with Michael Myers or something to, you know, make it a little more interesting? Raimi should let his buddy Bruce Campbell direct it and they should go a little extreme with it; maybe make it R-Rated? Or they could just make cartoon versions and let them go straight to video, saving us some money by just charging us thirty bucks for a DVD as opposed to paying 60.00 for a night out at the movies plus thirty for the eventual home video version plus digital copy. I'm just saying...

Any time someone says a movie like this should be rated R, you deny the fundamental function of the movie industry: To make as much money as possible from your investment in making a film. No feature film of Spider-Man, Batman, Star Wars, etc. will ever be rated R and thus exclude most of its prime audience. The Dark Knight is about as close to that as you are ever going to get.

Good for Sony that they are making plans to keep these films going, with what now seems to be three films in development.

Ruined it so bad that people only paid 2 billion dollars to watch the movies in theaters.  Sheesh!  What is Sony thinking????

IMAX Corporation and Columbia Pictures today announced that the highly-anticipated action-adventure Spider-Man 4, will be released to IMAX(R) theatres simultaneously with the film's worldwide release on May 5, 2011. The fourth installment of the successful "Spider-Man" franchise, based on the Marvel Comicbook character, will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience. Quote:

In an exclusive conversation with MTV News on Friday, franchise director Sam Raimi reveled that if all goes according to plan, shooting will begin early next year.

"We're hoping that it's the first week in March," said Raimi.

At the moment, pre-production is in full swing, even as screenwriter Gary Ross ("great director and a very fine writer," said Raimi) continues to work on the script.

"He's working on a draft," he continued. "I just gave him some notes and he's doing a rewrite right now."

On other fronts, "Spider-Man 4" continues to chug along. "The production is starting to come together," Raimi told us. "I've got a production designer who is starting to design the sets and the environments that the picture will take place in. We just brought aboard Scott Stokdyk as one of the two visual effects supervisors, and I worked with him on all three 'Spider-man' pictures

Warning Spoiler! Click to show

Ever since Dylan Baker first appeared in Spider-Man 2 as Empire State University professor Dr. Curt Connors, people have been buzzing about whether we might ever see him turn into Spider-Man's scaliest foe The Lizard. Unfortunately, we don't have the answer to that question just yet, but UGO had people at the Walter Reade screening of Michael Dougherty's Trick 'r Treat last night where actor Dylan Baker confirmed he would be returning as Connors for Spider-Man 4, when asked about it during a post-screening Q & A. He didn't go into details about how big or small his role might be in the fourth installment, although it seemed like it would be another "background" part, rather than The Lizard taking center stage as the next Spider-Man villain.

Why does everything have to come with a downside?

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
Rachel McAdams as the Black Cat?  I don't have a problem with that.  She's a beautiful girl and a decent actress from what I've seen.  But:

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
"she is the daughter of the new editor of The Daily Bugle, a man who is also referred to as ‘a viper'. She falls in love with Peter Parker, and uncovers his true identity. Her father then dies, and Hardy becomes a threat to Peter Parker."

Come on!  The whole Black Cat schtick at first was that she was excited by Spider-Man and disappointed by how normal Peter Parker was.  She'd basically tell him, "Just leave on the mask!  I don't want to see you!"  It sounds like she's going to be this film's version of the last film's Gwen.

Also, she had a kind of Batman/Catwoman relationship with Spidey.  She was a petty thief, and he had to stop her, but he was turned on by her.  She could still be a thief as the bored daughter of a businessman, but to be connected to the Bugle?  In the comics, her connection to the Bugle was that--after her fling with Spidey ended--she turned her affections to a reformed supervillain (the Puma) who bought the Bugle in order to give Spider-Man good press.

I don't feel the need to spoilerize this, as it is all just speculation at this point. I've also read that Julia Stiles is in consideration for the role. Isn't the Black Cat a parody of Catwoman? I mean, here is a character that isn't all that good but has a romantic thing with the hero. How is it no copyright infringement was ever claimed?

Still hoping Raimi sticks to the first 7 or 8 years of the character.

If comic book companies started suing each other for infringing on the copyrights of their super hero characters, they would all be sued out of existence.
