David Lindsay-Abaire to Pen Spider-Man 4 - Superhero Hype!

Quote:
Playwright David Lindsay-Abaire (upcoming Inkheart), who won a Pulitzer in 2007 for his drama "Rabbit Hole," is in final negotiations to write Spider-Man 4 for Columbia Pictures, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are back as director and star, respectively, as are series producers Laura Ziskin and Avi Arad. Kirsten Dunst also is expected to return for the latest movie featuring the Marvel Comics character.

Plot details are under lock and key.

James Vanderbilt previously wrote a draft of Spider-Man 4.

Lindsay-Abaire's "Rabbit Hole," which starred Cynthia Nixon and Tyne Daly, hit the Broadway stage in 2006 and won four Tonys, including best play. The writer also is known for the play "Fuddy Meers."

Raimi is slated to begin production on “Spider-Man 4” in 2010, in fact and, he said, envisions shooting some of that movie in Michigan.

“I’ll be looking at Michigan for our second-unit photography on the new ‘Spider-Man’ film,” he confirmed.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

Michigan is becoming a popular destination to film, there are generous tax breaks, our lakes look like oceans in that you can't see the other side of them, as well as the relatively low cost of production compared to some other places. Its nice to see that there is something positive happening here.

Splash Page EXCLUSIVE: Sam Raimi ‘Can’t Imagine’ Doing ‘Spider-Man 4’ Without Kirsten Dunst, Only Working On Fourth Film

Quote:
Director Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire are locked in, the story is being fleshed out and so fans are dying to know: where will the Peter Parker story take us next and what will be the villains that he has to face?

For those answers we’ll have to keep waiting a little while longer. Raimi is keeping it all very close to the vest, but did reveal to us that the ideas and concepts are only looking forward to the fourth “Spider-Man” film and right now, a larger roadmap for the fifth film is not being charted out. He also said fans should expect to see the stories take place firmly within the Marvel Universe created by Stan Lee and not any inventions outside the familiar comic book storylines.

The bold face type is mine as that was the most important facts of the whole nterview

Re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

Wanting Venom may have been a studio decision but showing Parkers dark side as a emo dancing freak, as well as the rushed bad news coverage ending was Raimi's - so he's to blame for Spiderman3 being so crappy.

Having said that, hopefully theyll put alot of thought and effort into 4 and we'll get a decent film. Im willing to give him another chance.

I say we get Lizard and Electro (though I think Kraven would work better w/ Lizard)

Oh yea and PLEASE bring back Bryce Howard.

Re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

I also think Lizard and Kraven offer the most potential for Spidey 4. Within the universe that Raimi has made, as well as his desire to continue to try and provide solid character arcs for Parker/Spidey, these two seem to have a lot going for them.

And the more distance from the film I get, the emo/dancing part stands out as the best thing in Spidey 3. I think it worked, unlike the rest of the film.

I totally agree! The first time I saw the film, these stood out as some of the best bits. They're goofy as hell, but enjoyably so. You can tell Raimi/Maguire were having fun.

Warning Spoiler! Click to show
Pascal: Could be.
Lynton: People are paying a premium to see movies in 3-D and that's a very big deal. It's never been done before that someone says you have to pay more to see Spider-Man than a romantic comedy.

Re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

This has been mentioned before. Ten years ago, there were some people advocating charging up to $20 to see Star Wars Episode I the first few weeks it played, with the price going down to "normal" levels over time. I believe James Cameron was one of the advocates of the higher prices.

I think it would kill theatrical revenue, since the majority of people would wait until the prices go down, which would give more money to theater owners than studios, since studios get a higher percentage in the first weeks of a film.

Now, maybe the compromise to all this is to have a 3D version of something like Spider-Man 4 released concurrently with the standard version, with people paying more to see the 3D version if they choose. But charging more off the bat for a standard film is a bad idea. If you have a loser of a film, it is likely that no one shows up. Spider-Man 4 should cost no more than the next romantic comedy to see on opening night.

Re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

if they do that I'll never go to the movies again.

My wife and I only go 2 or 3 times a year as it is and if we need to wait 2 or 3 weeks for the "regular" price we won't go at all.

the theaters around us only keep the movie in the bigger rooms
for the first week or 2, if I have to wait, then the screen will be one of the smaller ones and also smaller rooms.

No thanks.

Splash Page EXCLUSIVE: Sam Raimi Reveals ‘Spider-Man 4’ Script Plans, Kirsten Dunst Uncertainty

Quote:
And at the end of June, he’ll be ready to do exactly that with a newly-printed copy of Hollywood’s hottest screenplay. “Right now, David Lindsay-Abaire, a New York playwright, is working on the screenplay,” Raimi said of the eagerly-anticipated “Spider-Man 4” script that will lay the blueprint for his film, due in theaters May 6, 2011. “He says that he’ll be done in about four weeks with his first draft. So that’s where I am right now. And I’m just about to hire a production skeleton.”

Re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011

interesting news if true

Michael Papajohn Returning for Spider-Man 4? - Superhero Hype!

Quote:
Scooper 'Cassassin' sent us the following note today about Spider-Man actor Michael Papajohn:

During a Q&A with Ted Raimi and Michael Papajohn at Wizard World Philadelphia today, Papajohn (aka the carjacker/original killer of Uncle Ben from the Spider-Man films) said that he would be reprising his role for Spider-Man 4. He then proceeded to say if he told us what his role entailed, he'd have to kill us.

If this will indeed happen, it will be interesting to see why they still need to show the character in another film considering what happened in the third installment.

Jeez. I wish the burglar wasn't in the third movie. Are we gonna find out he was Doctor Connor's brother? Or Adrian Toomes was also in on the job and kicked Uncle Ben in the groin before Sandman accidentally shot him?

For big event films like TPM, demand exceeds supply for the opening shows. Theaters could definitely raise prices to some extent and still fill the seats. There would be a reduction in demand but not necessarily tickets sales, since there are a limited number of seats to sell. This wouldn't work for all openings, but probably would for big tent pole openings like TPM.

Yeah. "Drag me to Hell" was a fantastic movie, and I'm hoping that energized Raimi, and that he wants "revenge" for Spider-Man 3, which was horrible.
