This is the new thread for all news for the Fourth Spiderman movie.
I will kick off with the latest Tobey Maguire news
http://www.scifi.com/scifiwire/index...ory=3&id=40891
Tobey Maguire, who reprises the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming
Spider-Man 3, told SCI FI Wire in February that he remained open to a fourth film, with reservations. This despite earlier reports that the third webslinger movie would be his last. Maguire is not contractually bound to do a fourth film.
"Well, it's possible that we make another movie," Maguire said in an interview. "It all depends on if there's a story worth telling. I feel very proud of the three movies that we've made. I feel like the stories all deserve to be told, and, you know, if they come up with a good movie, and the whole team wants to get back together, and we feel like we can make a good movie that's worth making, then I'm up for it."

If Raimi ends up doing the two 'Hobbit' movies for New Line, than I seriously doubt either Tobey Maguire or Kirsten Dunst will return for a fourth movie. If that happens, Sony will hire two new leads and ink them both to at least three-picture deals.
If Raimi does opt to do something else and take a break from the Spidey franchise, I'm sure he'll return to helm another one somewhere down the line. The question is who will Sony replace him with if any of these things ends up happening? With work on a new script already underway, Sony probably wants the movie in theaters either the summer of 2009.
With the Green Goblin, Dr. Octopus, Sandman, and Venom having been successfully brought to the screen in this "first" trilogy of films. Don't be surprised if we see the big screen incarnations of the Lizard, Rhino, the Black Cat, and Electro for the second trilogy.

Seriously? That's hilarious, considering what they did in the Ultimate Spider-Man comic when the last movie came out.

I think 4 would be good for a team-up movie. Just have to figure out what studio has the rights to the other Marvel properties. Although, I am sure another studio would work with Fox to get some sort of piece of the Spidey franchise.
Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Here are some more comments from TM on No 4
http://www.darkhorizons.com/news07/spider34.phpQuestion: If they were to ever make a superhero team up film for Spiderman 4, would you consider being a bit player, say Spiderman in an Avengers type movie?
Maguire: I don't know. It depends, I guess. It depends on what the movie was or who the filmmaker was, I mean, that would probably be pretty complicated in terms of just getting different studios to figure out with, as they have the rights to those certain characters, it would probably be pretty hard to figure out. But let's just say in the fantasy world that it was all figured out, it depends. If there was a filmmaker I loved and my part, you know, I could go in and it would be more of a fun little thing where I worked for a couple of days, I wouldn't--I probably wouldn't go and work for several months and be in an ensemble type of thing, no. I mean, you never no, but I really doubt it. Would I walk through a scene and have a little conversation as Peter Parker with a little red suit showing that was just a fun little moment with a director that I loved in a movie that I thought would be great? Yeah, maybe I would consider that.

Fine by me. Ms. Dunst's recent egotistical comments to the contrary, I wouldn't mind if the characters were recast for future installments. I love the current trilogy, but don't think any of the lead actors involved bring anything "special" to their roles that would be greatly missed if they were replaced. I would keep the supporting cast, though, such as JK Simmons and Rosemary Harris.

Is Brett Ratner free? Fox was very happy with X3.

Dear God, no Rattner!!!
As for the possible villians in 4, I'd like to see Kraven and Lizard especially since Dr. Curt Connor has been in the other films and is already set up quite nicely. Mysterio would be cool as well. I bet the CG on his character would look awesome.

If Japan's opening represent's what may happen here in the states then I don't think that would be an issue. Japan's had record breaking openings for this film according to the news this morning. I like the idea of a fourth one and a start of a new trilogy if that's the path they would take.

I for one wouldn't mind seeing some new actors playing these roles. I like the SM movies because I get to see my favorite childhood superhero on the big screen doing specatuclar things, not because of Tobey McGuire's acting. Granted, I wouldn't want some hack up there playing PP/SM and I do like what he brings to the films, but it's just not my main reason for liking these movies. *HOWEVER*, if it turns into the abomination that the Batman franchise went through, I'll be disappointed.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011
Sony has already commissioned a script (from Indy IV scribe David Koepp), so this doesn't surprise me. If they do go with new leads in the roles of Peter Parker and MJ, on top of hiring a new director, than this one could hit theaters during the summer of '09. I do know that Sony's original goal to have a new Spidey flick every other year.
The Lizard would be this movie's sympathetic villain (ala Doc Ock and Sandman), while Carnage will hopefully be handled a lot better than Venom was. Black Cat would give Spidey both a new ally and new love interest.
Sandman could return sometime during the next trilogy (hopefully still being played by Thomas Haden Church who is one of the bright spots of Spidey 3), which could also see Spidey tangling with Rhino, the Vulture, Electro, and possibly Mysterio or Hobgoblin. Sony has a long list of baddies to choose from since Spidey's only real rivals in the rogue's gallery department among other big screen superheroes is Batman and the X-Men.
Spidey 3 will push the franchise's worldwide box office mark to well over $2 billion (something only four other franchises have managed to do) and Sony is in no hurry to put an end to this cash cow.

re: Spider-Man 4: May 6th, 2011
Maguire being replaced will purely be a cost issue. The studio is in no hurry to fork over $25-$30 million for him to return for just one movie. They can pay that to another actor over the course of three films rather than one. Plus, Tobey's age (he'll be 32 in June) is starting to become an issue with some of the execs at Sony. The powers-that-be want to keep the role of Peter Parker being played by a twentysomething rather than a thirtysomething.
While Maguire wouldn't likely turn down a huge $25-$30 million payday, he has expressed a very strong desire to do the same sort of smaller work he was known for before he did the first Spidey flick. He often sites his favorite work being in films like "Pleasantville", "The Cider House Rules", Wonder Boys", and "Seabiscuit" (for which he was also one of the producers).
At this point, the studio will very likely change actors every three or four movies. The same tactic will be applied with the role of Mary Jane as well. This way, in the minds of the execs, the series will remain "fresh" and relevant to the key movie-going demo of 15-30 year olds.
Studios are now regularly using message board "plants" or "watchers" in regards to genre pictures. This is a tactic that started in the late '90s and has grown from there. Studio heads, as well as producers, directors, and writers, do love to know what is being said about their product.

Rosemary Harris (Aunt May), JK Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson), Dylan Baker (Dr. Connors), Elizabeth Banks (Betty Brant), Bill Nunn (Robbie), Bryce Howard (Gwen Stacy), and James Cromwell (Capt. Stacy) are all expected to return for the next set of movies.
Sony will only look to replace the pieces of the Spidey puzzle that cost them the most money, i.e. Maguire, Dunst, and Raimi. Of the three, Raimi will remain with the franchise as one of the producers (probably in name only).

If it's true that a script has already been commissioned (why do you guys WANT Koepp? This man has never written a great script), and gone so far to already establish the villains then it sounds to me like Sony decided a while back to move forward without Raimi. I can't imagine him being up for that and I'm sure Maguire and Dunst won't either.
Unfortunately it also looks like Sony isn't interested in finding someone with a strong vision to guide the series into new territory, just a hired gun to carry out the committee's will. It's strictly Batman Forevers and X3s from here on out I'm betting.

The movie then travels along it's path without another mention of that "piece" of symbiote. This is the set up for Spider-Man 4 where that small piece of alien symbiote becomes CARNAGE. Yes Cletus Cassidy is coming to the big screen, one of Spider-Man most horrifying and evil villains. Not only with Parker have to deal with the red lean mean killing machine, but Connors is set to become the long awaited LIZARD! these two villains have all been CONFIRMED for Spider-Man 4. There is talk of the Black Cat making her first appearance, but that's all but official."

If this is true, I'd be pretty psyched. I'd really love to see what the Lizard would look like. As far as McGuire and Dunst, I'm over them both. I just back from seeing SM3 and three films with these two is enough, bring on some new actors.
