Multiple Analog Switcher

Is there such a beast as a single 3rd party unit that would allow multiple 5.1 inputs from both a BluRay Disc Player and an HD-DVD Player, and then output to a receiver with a single 5.1 analog input? What I want to do is add a BluRay Disc player to my home theater, but my receiver is not hdmi compatible. However it does have a single set of 5.1 anolog inputs which are currently spoken for by my Toshiba HD-A1. Am I making sense? I'm very happy with my receiver and don't see the need to upgrade. Please advise.

Thanx in advance.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

I'd like one of those too; my receiver only does HDMI pass-through and I've basically resigned myself to the BD player having the use of the inputs for now.

I'm half-tempted to go down to Radio Shack and buy myself six Y-adaptors, although there are probably numerous reasons why that's not exactly a great idea.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

Yes, I bought one from monoprice.
They have 2 to1, 3 to 1 and 4 to 1.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

John,

I did a google serch and the unit you're describing doesn't do 5.1 analog.

Thanks for trying.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

I'm using just like you discribed. I have a onkyo dv-sp800 which does dvd-audio and sacd and the toshiba hd-a1 which I have both using 5.1 analog out to my onkyo ds-tx989 which uses db25.

Do you have a link with detailed photos and/or specs?

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

I was looking for exactly the same thing, but I could not find it. I just ended up buying a new receiver instead.

It seems to me that is the only way to go if you want to hook up both formats to a single receiver. They just don't seem to make switchers that include 2 5.1 analog in's, and one 5.1 analog out.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

Maybe he's talking about this? It's component video instead of 5.1 audio, but I figure that just means that the jacks are painted different colors; it's still 6 RCA cables in and out.

But, again, I can be cheap, so I may just go with six of these.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

OK. Here's a link to the 2 to 1 switch box. http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...t=1#largeimage. The photos clearly show that the box does not feature 5.1 analog connectivity. I want to do 5.1 analog from HD-DVD and BluRay Disc to a box, which will then output a single 5.1 analog connectiong to my receiver.

Thanks again for your suggestions.

Thanks Jason. That might be a possibility. The price is right. I welcome any and all suggestions.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

the 6 analog outs go into a db25 cable. the db25 goes into the switcher. then db25 back to 6 analog into reciever. In my case, db25 goes directly into receiver.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

John,

What type of db25 cable? Searching yields cables that don't appear to accept 5.1 analog. I'm not following you. If you've got links, that would be helpful.

Thanks.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

So, basically the same thing as the Monoprice one except eight times more expensive? Man, high-end connectors are a sweet racket.

While at the Shack, see if you can find their plain ol' yellow, red and white RCA aud/vid switch boxes. I'm told they don't make them anymore but two of those solved the (ahem) analogous issue for guys who wanted to connect both an SA-CD and DVD-Audio player to the same receiver endowed with only one 5.1 analog input.

So, basically the same thing as the Monoprice one except eight times more expensive?

Although the devices may achieve the same goal, in looking at the HDS4.1's specs, I wouldn't agree that they do it with the same fidelity.

Exactly. This is what I use, and I highly recommend it. Besides, from what I've seen, these Zektor units seem to hold their resale value pretty well when it comes time to upgrade to that new receiver.

Universal Blu-ray Discs I will not be buying while they're offered only as Blu-ray + DVD 'flipper' discs:

I quess I went cheap because the next upgrade is going to be across the board, reciever, speakers, display and possibly hd player.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

I was looking into this issue, my Outlaw 950 only has one set of analog in's and I need them for both my A1 and BD-P1000. Currently, the BD-P1000 gets the analog connection as there are many more BRDs with LPCM then HD-DVDs with TrueHD.

I might give that monoprice unit a try and see how it works, it's darn well cheap enough.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

I wish they had one of these things with an HDMI connector and circuitry which would allow the signal to be passed through to the analog outs. I would look at something like that because I really don't want to buy another receiver for a long time yet.

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

THe issue I see with the monoprice is that the one input is labeled as "digital", as in a 5.1 digital coax cable. Does this make a difference? Is the circuitry different for these types of signals?

Re: Multiple Analog Switcher

I think I've been waiting for something that costs an order of magnitude less. I simply cannot see the logic in paying more for a switch than any of the things it switches between.
