I'm not counting anthing before 1970, hence why I left out Mame and The Yakuza.

Then your list will never reach the 200 title level for 2007 because I'm pretty sure that Warner is including those titles after 1970 in that number. Furthermore, the rereleases that have upgraded video presentations.

Warners' plans to release 200 or so titles new to DVD this coming year. Although no specific titles were mentioned, classic enthusiasts can look for at least one collection and usually two each month. These will include all new-to-DVD titles except where a previously released title has been substantially upgraded in terms of master quality and supplements (such as was the case with The Maltese Falcon recently).

I suggest having "pre-1970" put in the subject header too.
I personally would prefer a more complete thread of Warner's catalog title releases for 2007.

It's not misleading. Barrie Maxwell from The Digital Bits said it. He deals specifically with classic movies, so egg in your face.

Yes, it's up for debate because though, at one time I thought as you do, I have since revised my thinking on what constitutes a "classic". Furthermore, I'm having trouble believing that Warner used the term classic instead of catalog titles. Anyhow, I don't think Warner is going to release 200 new catalog titles to dvd that were made before 1970.
Also, to every participant in this thread, let's calm down, we all have love for film especially classic ones.

I think this does a big disservice to Warners as I have never seen an actual quote from Warner saying there will be 200 new "classic" films released in 2007. Even Bernie's column doesn't state this.
Anyway, let's forget the semantics, I'm happy for any classic films being released by warner.

Fine, let the mods change it. My intention was just to keep track of the classic titles that were released before 1970.

Sounds to me like 200 new catalog titles being released in 2007, without the quantifying words of "prior to 1970".

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007
Wonderfully and perfectly said, Jefty, as always.
Studio-era films are indeed what many of us refer to when we say "classics". I seldom go beyond the 1965 mark and even that's stretching it for me, I would say the vast majority of films in my collection were made before 1958. Serena and Corey, looks like we are STILL in the same boat!
Sing your worries away, smile, be kind and accentuate the positive!
DVD wish list: The Accused (48), Margie (46), I'll Get By (50), The Constant Nymph (43), The Voice of the Turtle (47), The Barretts of Wimpole Street (34), Her Twelve Men (54), The Lost Moment (47), I Walk Alone (48), The Glass...

Re: Warner's 200 new classic films for 2007
Another thought would be to add the films that have a very strong possibility of showing up (Maybe put them in a different color) The Mickey Rooney/Judy Garland box was coming, but we are unsure of the content, however you can be about 90% sure that it will include most of these:
Mickey & Judy Flicks
Babes in Arms
Strike Up the Band
Babes on Broadway
Words and Music
Girl Crazy
Possible Andy Hardy Flicks
Love Finds Andy Hardy (Already on DVD!)
Andy Hardy Meets Debutante
Life Begins for Andy Hardy
Hopefully, we'll see a full set of Andy Hardy movies as well as a separate Mickey Rooney signature set.

Warner Home Video tends to divide things in terms of new theatrical titles and catalog titles. Even "Alexander Revisited" was handled by their catalog division since the film was two years old and previously released (albeit in different forms).
