Re: Prince of Persia - Summer 2008

If the follow the storyline of the videogames (which are fairly cinematic), this could make a neat movie, what with the twisting story and time-travel aspects.

That's concept art?! I thought it was a set photo at first. Damn!

The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Hopefully, he'll be the droll, sarcastic prince from Sands of Time.

i totally agree. unfortunately, i fear that the myopic powers-that-be in hollywood may well gravitate more toward the brooding, heavy-metal prince from the subsequent installments.

Since it's Bruckheimer and Disney, somebody's got to be thinking, "Hey, this could be our next Pirates of the Caribbean." The prince isn't that far removed personality-wise from Jack Sparrow, so we may be okay there.

More importantly, the (initial at least) film screenplay was written Jordan Mechner who only had a hand in the first game so that tone was probably the starting point they went with.

I only had the information at hand, but I know of Jordan Mechner. I've been playing his games since I was a small child, starting with Karateka. His involvement is good news.

I know, a lot of you are fans. And, at least it isn't Uwe Boll. But, I hope it isn't true.

Re: Prince of Persia - Summer 2008

I just read at the IMDb that Bay is not confirmed as the director, and that Bruckheimer has said that a director has not been picked. Has anyone heard anything along these lines? Dare I hope? POP is about the best idea for a video game translation I've heard of, but I'll skip it altogether if Bay is given the helm.

Huh.  What do ya know.  That looks really, really good.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for...

Apparently, Ubisoft thinks the movie is going to outperform Pirates of the Carribbean's success at the box office next year....he may have a case, judging by that trailer. This looks like it has all the same elements, action-adventure, comedy and then some (Jake Gyllenhaal gets me) and an awesome video game....

Does it have a Jack Sparrow though?  This guy seems to translate more with the Orlando Bloom character and the movie lacks the Sparrow.  Just MHO

I think Jake can hold his own on this movie... I don't even know that they need or even have a Sparrow-ish character. I do think they have a pretty good evil villain, esp with THE Sir Ben Kingsley playing him. I think it looks really good so far but I guess time and moviegoers taste will tell if it can replicate that success....
