The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

As always, thanks for the roundup guys. 'Prestige' on Blu-Ray for me (would have picked up Babel as well but I got a couple of weeks back) and a couple of rentals on the side: Flushed Away and Shut Up and Sing.

Does anyone know what is on that second disc from CC for Babel? I tried hopping on their website, but I wasn't getting through. Thanks!

Thanks for the Round-Up.

Possibly Lillian Russell (Alice Faye collection).

For Your Consideration is no longer under consideration due to the multiple reports of poor picture quality of the DVD (see the official HTF review thread).

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-20-2007

Hmm...."49th Parallel" sounds like "Casablanca Goes Canuck".

Freddy Young photography, David Lean editing, Ralph Vaughan Williams score....too bad it's an expensive ($40 list) 2-disc Criterion. DVDpricesearch.com reports that Amazon's $27.99 price is the cheapest on line ($2 less than Mike's citation above). This would be a no-brainer for me as a Fox war pictures budget disc. The region 2 disk at amazon.uk was released by Warners.

A comment from a viewer at IMDB:

"Canadians find this WWI [sic] Brit propaganda film a real knee-slapper. It encompasses every cartoon of Canada found in both the British and American stereotype canon. That canon holds that Canada is about the size of Maryland (or Lancashire) and populated by Indians, trappers, Eskimos and Mounties. Anyway, here's the plot.

A German submarine hunting in the Gulf of St Lawrence runs low on fuel. So the captain decides to take ship and crew to an outpost on Hudson's Bay. Getta map, Helmut! Canada ain't Switzerland. That's a few thousand nautical miles. It's easier to get to Hamburg from the Gulf than it is to get Hudson's Bay!"

I did the review for the HD of Babel, and there certainly aren't any extras. Paramount also sent me the SD version of it and it's the same way-one disc, no extras. I haven't seen any mention prior to this of a second disc.

Thanks, Mike and Patrick. Penn & Teller's BS S4 (already on its way) is the only purchase this week. I want Man of the Year, but don't want to spend $16-17 on it as a blind buy, so I'll wait until it hits the $10 or 2/$15 sales in a few months.

I'm excited to see the new Christopher Guest film "For Your Consideration," but I've heard it's not quite as good as their previous efforts. It'll have to go to the Netflix queue.

Criterion's 49th Parallel and the Blu-Ray Prestige should be enough to make me happy on Tuesday, though.

I did the Blu-Ray review over at ManRoom.com, and while I acknowledged that Inarritu isn't a fan of extras, it would have been great to have a doc of some sort on the making of the film. Guess I will have to suffice with the Hardcover Picture book Inarritu put out last fall when the movie first debuted.

By the way, Pat, excellent work on your review.

Babel really deserves a commentary track. I got a lot of press materials with the screeners that kind of made up for it.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 2-20-2007

I'm pretty sure CC's 2-disc Babel listed in the grid doesn't exist; from what I've herard, I think it was orgiinally slated for dual releases, but the SE got cancelled (most likely so that they could re-release it later with "Winner of X Academy Awards!" on the cover.) The ad doesn't make a big deal about it being a store exclusive, and they would if it were one, so I'm betting the ad was printed up before the release was cancelled, or it got in as a mistake. Looks like we're stuck with the barebones version for now, which I will be picking up anyway because it was so good I can't wait to watch it again.

Thanks, Mike.
