I think one of the purposes of this web forum is to help people become experts--not experts in the sense of

but in terms of knowing exactly how far a dollar will stretch, what overlooked films are worth seeing, what differentiates a outstanding (hd) dvd transfer, and which are merely so-so, and how to setup and calibrate your equipment for best results.
There's not a whole lot of point in discussing the finer points of
Star Wars, if you can't see and hear those finer points.
Over the years, posters have prefaced their remarks with claims to completely satisfied with whatever they've bought out of the back of van down by the river, but then go on ask how they might get "5.1" sound out of their XBox360, or bass they can actually feel.
The answers are greatly complicated if the poster does not own a receiver with optical digital inputs or LFE pre-outs. Many of these "bargain" systems omit these necessities.
