Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

I'm going on my two week vacation here starting Feb 11th, and I'm doing nothing but catching up on TV, movies, music and video games.

And I'm looking at downloading some classic games.
I know I want Solomon's Key, but I'm looking for a few other games.

Im a zelda and Castlevania fan, but can someone recommend any of the older games?

Currently the Pickins are a little slim, there John. Contra 3 that was just released is totally sweet, Also Toe Jam & Earl is a pretty good title. BTW, Love the sig. The Power Glove IS bad!

Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

I don't think I can recommend any of the Genesis titles for anyone with a PS2. There's a "Sega Genesis Collection" disc that goes for $20 (or less) which includes Sonic 1 and 2, Ecco the Dolphin (and its Genesis sequels), Comix Zone, Ristar, Gain Ground, Bonanza Bros., Altered Beast, Columns, Phantasy Star 2-4, and more...

The VC pricing is outrageous compared to this disc. Plus, the disc runs in 480p.

Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

Rock. My kids love MarioKart, which they play relentlessly. I'm a bit worried about how much space, since I keep reading you can't store the games on a memory stick, it has to be in the main memory.. but we'll see So far, I've been pretty happy with a lot of the VC options.

Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

here's a little something interesting:

According to Nintendo exec George Harrison, Japan-only games might eventually be translated and released in America through Virtual Console.

Chris Kohler of Wired's Game|Life blog has extracted this juicy quote from George Harrison, senior vice-president at Nintendo of America:

We are aware that there are some very successful Japanese franchises that have a small following in the US, and that they could never be reached by putting these products out at retail. We're open to games released in Japan if we can get them translated properly.

Aside from cult classics like Mother (predecessor to Earthbound) and the original Fire Emblem games, many English-speaking Nintendo fans have long pined for Treasure's N64 shooter Sin & Punishment, which is already planned for release on the Japanese Virtual Console service. With the storyline already dubbed in English, could this be the first import-only game to get an official VC distribution in the West?

Be sure to visit Game|Life for the full story.

Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

If Sin & Punishment comes to the Wii through VC, it's the ultimate score. Hell, if they go to Japanese only titles, could they do some of the Japanese only titles from way back.. Sega, NES? There are TONS I would be interested in seeing (like versions of FF that were only Japanese releases)

For those that have never played it or no longer have a copy, this is a must own. Ocarina of Time is easily one of the greatest games ever created.

Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

The VC really has become a very impressive feature. Even without the Wii itself, the VC alone is almost enough to justify owning the system.

I agree, but I really wish the prices were a tad better. Cost is usually twice what I can buy a cartdrige for at a game store or pawn shop, if you can find the particular game that is.

I downloaded Tecmo Bowl, and got slapped around by the AI in my first game, granted it was 2 a.m. and I was pretty tired...

Yeah, how many hours I wasted as a kid on tecmo bowl. I just ran the score up on the AI.. run the sweep! Run the sweep!

I agree, the VC is my favorite feature. My kids and I are still playing the daylights out of Legend of Zelda A Link to the Past.. god I love that game.

I believe the SEGA Saturn is coming, but it's just a matter of "when?". First Nintendo would be wise to enable support for external USB2 hard drives to compensate for the Wii's lack of internal storage capacity. I believe the SD card expansion only supports cards up to 2GBs in size.

Don't forget that NeoGeo and MSX are also coming. SEGA Master System is rumored to be in pipeline as well.

Also in case anyone missed it - here are the games released to the US Virtual Console yesterday

1. Excitebike (NES - 500 Points)
2. Beyond Oasis (SEGA Genesis - 800 Points)
3. Splatterhouse (TurboGrafx-16 - 600 Points)

Re: Wii Virtual Console Details

Saturn is the news I've been waiting for. Saturn is responsible for (IMHO) the best Role-playing games ever. Bar none. A lot of the greats have been since re-released on PS, like Lunar, and Arc the Lad, but still, can anyone say "Shining Force"? Woot!
