You're right about Blind Faith, but Derek and the Dominoes failed to follow-up their debut b/c Clapton refused to leave his house. This is when he decided to take a few years off and do heroin. I read a Clapton interview in which he said that one of the members of D&TD (don't remember which) came to his house and shouted at him all day to come out, but Clapton was too fried to open the door.

Thanks Steve & Mike. I was getting exited for the possibility of a new trasfer or some extras.

Oh well, I'll sooth my disappointment with My Name is Earl. The only show I ever stopped watching (after two shows) just so I could watch it on DVD.

I'll be picking up the 2-disc Zoo Tv concert at CC. $15.99 is probably the best price I'll find for quite some time. That will nearly finish off the U2 discs for me. If only I could get a decent deal on Live at Slane Castle...

This disc is also being packaged inside BB's 'Classic Sci-fi Ultimate Edition'.

Also, as I mentioned in another thread, these sets are already on most shelves. Since each store is only getting a few, you may want to check early.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

Thanks guys!

Only Avatar-Last Airbender: Comp. Book for me this week. This is a great animated series that my 10 year old cousin got me hooked on. Great writing and a great overarching storyline. Definitely recommend it to anyone who likes good animation and a great story. (...but CC can keep their copies if they think they can charge $10 over MSRP)

DVD & Blu-ray - It's all about the movies!

Kyle - the Slane Castle disc was part of Comp USA's clearance sale a few weeks ago. I picked up a copy for $4.98 - check this link to search inventory of stores in your area:

You might lucky and find a copy still on the shelf.

At the price they are offered, why not get 1 of each (for collector's sake)!

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

I actually had a dream the other night about scouring Best Buy for the Battlestar Galactica set with the bonus disc. In the dream, I found a copy, but from what I remember, the whole situation was quite stressful.

Good luck to everybody who heads out today looking for those retailer exclusives.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

Interesting observations on the possible early release of "Bob Newhart S4". Netflix had it in LAST week's new release listing too...

I'm buying "BNS4" (surprised that there's info on it for BB or Target as both carried the first three seasons), the "Grease" SE and probably the "Classic Sci-Fi Colection" from Best Buy.

I'm renting "Hard Candy", the Boris Karloff Collection and "Footballers Wives S3" (trashy soaps don't get better than this!)

Someone mentioned on another forum that their wife wanted them to pick up two copies - one leather and one pink. They were going to keep one copy and give the other copy as a gift, keeping both jackets. She wanted to keep the leather jacket on Grease and put the pink jacket on her copy of Grease 2. Now thats a fan!

That was me. As of this morning, Grease & Grease 2 now sit next to one another wearing snazzy jackets!

EDIT: K-Mart has the Rockin' Rydell Edition for $6.99! Helped since I was picking up both of them (Target = $14.99, K-Mart = $6.99).

A couple of actuals from Costco store #390 in Livonia, MI:

My Name is Earl Season 1: $29.89
Grease (Rockin' Rydell Edittion w/Jacket slipcase): $11.39

I believe the Battlestar Galactica S2.5 was less than the online price, too, but don't quote me on that one.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

FYI, I went to pick up a copy of Backdraft 2-Disc Anniversary Edition at CC today and was charged $14.99!

I mentioned to the CSR that it was listed in their flyer LAST WEEK for $12.99 and that they didn't have any (there was a notice posted next to their sale papers that it was delayed until 9-19). She told me that I should have gotten a "raincheck"!

I didn't have the flyer with me (it was in my office) but I'll be stopping at CC on my way home tonight to speak with a manager.

Just thought I'd give everyone a "heads-up".

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

Got stung today at CC over the Backdraft pricing too.

Rang up for $14.99 and since there was nothing in this week's ad, I was hanging out to dry.

Decided to pass and went to Walmart where it was going for $13.72 total.

Wish I knew about the thing in last week's ad, because they might have still had one laying around.

Checked the CC web site from in the store and saw that the old version was $12.99, so I thought that was how things got mixed up and left.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

Picked up the "Classic Sci-Fi Collection" at BB and "Grease" at Target. NO luck finding "Bob Newhart" S4 at either (or B&N for that matter)...guess I will order from Amazon.

Target DID have the Bob Newhart "Button Down Mind" (I think that's the name of it) for $14.99 and these unadvertised titles:

Loverboy: $19.99
Backdraft SE: $14.99
Footballers Wives S3: $19.99
The Proposition: $17.99
One of my favorite albums...

Al.Anderson:

The same thing happened to me this morning. The display stand says "$32.99" but it rang up "$41.99." I guess because the display stand wasn't in the cashier's line of view, they didn't believe me about the "$32.99" price. (They had a standard version without the cd and the exclusive version). However, I picked up a sales flyer in-store that shows the Exclusive edition marked "$32.99" and had the customer service dept. take care of it. You've really got to watch BB. I think they ask you if you want 8 free issues of such-and-such a magazine to distract you from the price displayed on the cash register.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

Hustled over to K-Mart for the leather-clad $6.99 Grease SE.

Believe this is a mistake that will soon be corrected in their computers.

The 'red tag' shelf price is clearly marked "Sale 14.99", so something is amiss here.

In order to get $6.99, I told the video clerk prior to scanning that I had read on-line the price would be 'lower than advertised'.

She seemed skeptical, but after scanning she reluctantly went along with it.

If I had said nothing prior to scanning, I believe she would have declared the computer in error and forced the price back to $15.

After the sale she went off looking for her manager, who had just open the locked DVD case for me and left the area.

Feel like I practically shoplifted this SE.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

When I got mine from K-Mart, I took it to the register and gave the DVD to the girl. She rang it up, I paid, got my change and she helped the next person. She didn't even bat an eye at the price.

I just made sure I didn't purchase it at the electronics department. I'm sure then, they would have said something.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-19-2006

>> For those of you that got the earl limited edition at best buy, what kind of case are the discs in?

Interior packaging is the same (two double-thins), with the case wrapped in the flannel... bonus cd is loose in a small paper sleeve behind it. Then there's a cardboard w/window wraparound.

The bonus cd just says 'bonus disc' (without any indication that it is a cd, not a dvd), so I was beginning to think/hope that there'd been a Target/BB bonus error as happened with Prison Break awhile back. But no. Bummer.

At Target: $35, minus $5 gift card... bonus disc of content I'm not sure of... (Edit, later: read elsewhere that it's a 7 minute table read featurette, 4 minutes of 'making of' footage, and 21 or so minutes of bloopers...)

BB's is $33 (stickered $42, but they SHOULD be selling the regular and bonus versions for the $33 price). The flannel sleeve is cute (not all flannels are the same- pick your favorite...). The cd contains John Hiatt's cover of Instant Karma (which will be on the Earl album), Matthew Sweet's cover of Everybody's Talkin' (which I guess WON'T be on the Earl album- exclusive here) and an instrumental version of the theme (vocal version is on the album, but not this one).

I was torn, but I really like those two songs, and I like the look of the flannel, so...

--

Got Grease at K-Mart for $7 (stickered on shelf behind the glass...).

CC only got ONE copy in of the U2 ZooTV 2-disc... they took my number and wrote me in a book for a 'raincheck' (I guess they don't actually PRINT rainchecks any more...).

John: Nope. They done all growed up. My son (now 16 and driving) WAS into Pokemon many years ago. I actually had to sit through Pokemon: The Movie in the theater! I (honest-to-God, I am NOT making this up) actually nodded off during the film. Only time ever that has happened!

Anyway....that qualifies me for never again having to be associated with Pokemon related material. And besides, read the fine print in the disclaimer. You could always look up the prices yourself and help out your fellow members of Team Rocket by posting the prices here!

================================================== =====

Actually, guys and gals, I am contemplating cutting back slightly on the RoundUp. When I took over this blessed thing in January 2004 (I cannot believe it's been almost three years now!!!), I expanded it a bit to include more titles. While I cannot necessarily explain my rule of thumb for inclusion of a title in the RoundUp, I have been paying close attention each week to the titles which receive comments attention from the participating readership. Last week, the RoundUp had over 4000+ views(!)......but only a handful of titles actually got discussed.

While I hate to do it, I am going to exercise more discretion on which titles get included in the RoundUp because the thing takes me too much time each week to compile and format the way it is. I expect this to be a gradual thing, but I am already casting a wary eye towards next week's titles.

There can be 300 to 600 new titles released each week...with some weeks having many "more interesting" mainstream titles than others. We'll have to see how this shakes out. Hope y'all understand.

I, of course, would love to hear ANY feedback you have. It was reader feedback which moved me to start separate grids to separate the HD releases from SD releases. I think that is working out great!

There's Jessie the yodeling cowgirl. Bullseye, he's Woody's horse. Pete the old prospector. And, Woody, the man himself. Of course, it's time for Woody's RoundUp. He's the very best! He's the rootinest, tootinest cowboy in the wild, wild west!
