The Disclaimer
Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

"LP" in the RoundUp table means a store’s Sunday flyer says "Low Price". That means I could not locate a definite price for the item, and the ad is all I have to go on. Retailers use these phrases in advertisements so that they do not violate MAP (Minimum Advertised Price) agreements with the studios. Doing so can cost them thousands or even millions of dollars in co-op advertising funds.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in...as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don't get paid for this, and I don't have the time to list every DVD. So, please don't complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

Note that I cannot include Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club prices in the RoundUp. They set prices at individual stores based on nearby competition, so there is no way I can say here what price you'll find at YOUR local Wal-Mart/Sam’s Club location. And, as always, Circuit City does not guarantee their sale prices in Hawaii.

The Specials

**BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL! Lucky Number Sleven is available in both OAR and MAR versions...get the correct one!

--I am still unsure of my efficiencies in finding and pricing the various HD & Blu-Ray release each week. Be forewarned. It seems like in-store prices at Best Buy and Circuit City are coming in cheaper than the prices as reported on-line. This week, the HD-DVD prices seem especially scattered.

--Amazon.com is having a special offer on Blu-Ray & HD-DVD discs: Save an additional 10% on all of your Blu-ray & HD-DVD Disc purchases for the next year. Purchase three Blu-ray or HD-DVD Discs right now, and you'll automatically qualify to receive an additional 10% off all of your high-definition DVD purchases for one year. To receive a 10% discount on your three high-def Discs upon checkout, use this claim code: HDDISC10. Go HERE for details.

I have conflicting release dates for three titles this week…but many of my sources have them for September 12 releases so I have included them here…but your mileage may vary:

Grease SE (Rocking Rydell Version), Teen Titans: Season 2 & The Batman: Season 2.

--Best Buy is offering a $5 savings on ANY Disney DVD title with the purchase of The Wild on DVD. Must be purchased on same receipt.

--Best Buy has an EXCLUSIVE METAL CASE it is selling which contains the three new Star Wars Episde IV, V, & VI.

--Best Buy also has an EXCLUSIVE BONUS DVD with the purchase of Smallville: Season 5 on DVD. Includes extended version of the “making of” the 100th episode. Minimum 10 per store. No rainchecks.

--Best Buy also has an exclusive packaging of the first two seasons of The Office. The Office: Severance Package Gift Set includes: Seasons 1 & 2 of The Office, Dunder Mifflin branded notebook, self-adhesive notes, pen, magnetic business card and monthly planner. Minimum 20 per store. No rainchecks.

--Not to be outdone on the Skywalker front, Circuit City is advertising a FREE COLLECTIBLE STAR WARS LITHOGRAPH with the purchase of each new Star Wars release. Collct all three! While supplies last. Minimum 20 per store.

--Circuit City, this week, also has THREE FREE CELL PHONE GAME DOWNLOADS with the purchase of The Office: Season 2 on DVD. While supplies last.

--Target is offering EXCLUSIVE ORIGINAL CONCEPT ART MINI-POSTERS with its copies of the new Star Wars releases on DVD. Quantities limited, no rainchecks.

--And Target’s also got its own EXCLUSIVE BONUS DVD with Grey’s Anatomy: Season 2 on DVD. Quantities limited, no rainchecks.

Bill: See my note about Grease. Not sure its out this week or next week.

Backdraft SE? Don't think that's this week either. I saw one mention of it on one of my lists....but that was it. It might be next week, too. IT IS out on HD-DVD this week, though.

Even though I should know better, I'll be picking up the SW sets. I just have to decide where. Anybody seen pics of that BB exclusive metal case? I wonder if it's worth the extra few bucks.

That Office set at BB sounds like a good deal.

Thanks for the listings, guys.

Update: The Best Buy Web site has a pic of that tin. Looks kind of cool. It's pretty colorful. Guess I know where I'm going Tuesday.

Re: Weekly RoundUp 9-12-2006

Thanks as usual.

I'd love to get some good looking versions of the original Star Wars films on dvd. Unfortunately, what Lucas is giving us this week, is going to look exactly the same as what I already have on dvd (burned there from my LDs). So, I'm certainly not going to pay him for that. If he ever does those right, he'll get my money. But I'm guessing it'll be a very cold day on Tatooine before that happens.

So, just Grease this week, which is visually improved over what I already have.

Sad -- no good sales at the brick & mortar stores on Moonlighting IV and Roseanne V... Sigh. Guess it's Amazon for this week! Will get the Office Season II at Circuit City -- great show.

The lack of advertising (and sale prices) on older series season sets is a disturbing trend. I'm still waiting for announcements regarding Frasier Season IX and Cheers IX...but not holding my breath since there was so little suport from Paramount for Season VIII.

Leafing though my new CC sales ad, think that the adverts for the "new" Star Wars releases are somewhat dishonest.

Next to the product shots, it proclaims in ALL CAPS about the original versions.

Combined with the vintage package artwork, you'd think the entire point of this release is the original versions.

Since Lucas wanted to release these discs with aborted retro PQ, they should have discouraged retailers from BOLDY touting what is essential a shoddy extra.

Has a shoddy extra become the product?

That's what they have to do to get the general "non-internet" public to bite... and the worst part, is that it will work.
