Black crush caused by HD-A1 or RPTV?

I just purchased the Toshiba HD-A1 and am connecting it to my Toshiba 46HX83 RPTV. Over component, the picture is terrific. Over DVI (HDMI -> DVI), I'm getting some severe black crush. I can't see the black bars in the DVE pluge pattern, or the moving bars in Avia. It's not only a problem in test patterns. It's makes a huge impact on overall image quality.

I did a search and came up emtpy handed. I just wanted to see if anyone else had this issue and whether it's a known issue with the player or if my TV is the cause.

I guess I should have searched on Google first. It seems there is an issue with the player when going HDMI to DVI. No prob. I'll just stay on component for now.
