Holadem, that was so, so funny. I'd been practising mimicking the senator's catchphrase.

Me too! It's an obsession! I think I finally got it right. And mind you, my voice is much deeper than his (and closer to Carcetti's campaign manager's)

No, but there's also nothing new posted at HBO On Demand.

Maybe it has something to do with when in December HBO wants the season finale to run.

HBO's much praised strategy of releasing the entire season to reviewers may have generated stellar reviews, but was disastrous in other respects. I doubt they will be doing this in the future.

There is a post on the IMDB forums that lays out all the spoilers. I won't even post the link, lest I be accused of enticing someone to a decision to view it that they regret, but it's there.

Great stuff. He was just ripe for being made fun of. I also love his catch phrase. I have never seen anyone draw out that word as long as he has. thanks for the link.

I wasn't sure the first episode, but figured out it was a female by the second episode. She is The Wire's version of the old SNL character Pat.

Yeah, but it took a while, because the character seems so androgynous - then I was like "Sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeit!"

I realized it after the first episode, when I checked the character listing at HBO's website. Otherwise, it probably would have taken me quite a while.

The NYTimes ran a short article over the weekend about Felicia Pearson, who plays Snoop. It's an amazing story. She was a crack baby raised in a foster home; started dealing at 10; went to prison for seven years at age 14; and decided to change her life around at 18 when the local dealer who'd adopted her and nicknamed her "Snoop" was shot and killed.

Michael K. Williams, who plays Omar, spotted her at a club and recommended her to The Wire's producers, and the rest is nail-gun-toting history.

Full article for those with access.

Among the many things to love was the resolution of the murdered witness case now that the campaign is over. Classic Wire!

You got it Michael! I loved the opening scene with Omar. Even in jail he has more information than most of the guys around him. Or maybe he just knows that he has pissed off just about everyone and knows that he always has to look over his shoulder.

Does anyone miss McNulty? I thought i would since he was such a big part of the first three seasons, but I don't feel that the show is lacking since he isn't on much anymore.

I thought I would, but nope*. The amazing thing is that this show right now doesn't have a main character, or perhaps even a main set of characters... and yet remains as compelling as ever. My TV experience is pretty limited, but I doubt a series has ever juggled (let alone succesfully) so many characters as this one does over the course of this season.

* Not until he makes the odd appearance anyway, at which point I do wish to see more of him.

My sentiments, as well. The kids in this season have helped to continue to make this one of the best dramas on TV.

Re: McNulty. Having just watched episode 8 ("Corner Boys") via on-demand, it struck me that McNulty's "mantle" (if you can call it that) may have fallen on Bunk. I don't want to spoil anything, but Bunk plays a big role in this next episode, and there are scenes where he reminded me very much of the McNulty of old.

Re: THE WIRE season 4 (see post #1 re: SPOILERS)

Fellows, please clarify something for me: A couple of eps ago, during the scene where he ditched Royce, Delegate Watkins showed him what looked like a Royce campaign flyer, and seemed pretty pissed at something on it. What was that?

EDIT: Nevermind, the official site has the episode recap. Here is the relevant passage, from the episode "Alliances":

Quote:
Royce tells State Delegate Odell Watkins that keeping Burrell was his biggest mistake, but Watkins points out that Royce did indeed tell the police commissioner to slow the Braddock investigation. Moreover, Watkins confronts the Mayor with two versions of Royce campaign literature - one pairing him with Eunetta Perkins in precincts where Perkins is strong, the other with Marla Daniels in other precincts. Royce promised Watkins he'd go with Marla. Royce pleads ignorance in the ruse, but Watkins doesn't buy it. He also knows about the mayor's fundraising card games with every developer and city contractor worth shaking down, and he's had it. "I'm gonna sit what's left of this one out," he says, [...]

Michael - you are right about Bunk. I also watched the next episode and loved every scene with Bunk.

One of the only things that i have scratched my head about recently is that i don't see a clear (and maybe that's their point) story line for the boys. I'm not sure yet how they are going to tie all of the stories lines together in the next 5 weeks. I keep waiting for some big huge event to tie all of thier stuff together. It's kind of like each of them has thier own story line that link up with the other but they don't really bring them together as a group. We'll have to wait and see what happens becuase I'm sure something major must happen.

The way I see it, it's a story about divergence. All four of the boys constitute a circle of friends, and each one is in the same grade at school, in the same class. Their storylines begin to diverge based on the content of their characters, the decisions they make, and their upbringing. For instance, Namond is the wealthiest of the four boys, but that wealth comes with a certain expectation that he'll step up and fill his father's shoes. Dookie, by far the least well off, will take a different path, as will Randy and Michael, each according to their own specific set of circumstances as well as who they are. It's a story about the painful passing from childhood into adulthood, and the establishment of the men they will grow up to be.
It also seems the story takes place within the same time frame as the episodes: the season began in September with the boys coming back to school, and while Carcetti has won the primary, he has yet to win the actual mayoral election (which should be happening next week in real time).

Very well said Mark, especially the concept of divergence in contrast to Chad's expectation of convergence (i.e., "tie all the storylines together").

Re: THE WIRE season 4 (see post #1 re: SPOILERS)

Fans of The Wire should check out this week's Law and Order: SVU, which featured Michael K. Williams a/k/a "Omar" as a pimp who specializes in turning out underage runaways. Look for an unexpected Wire cameo when the pimp switches identities with someone else in lockup in order to arrange an earlier release.

The episode, entitled "Underbelly", repeats on USA on Sunday/Monday, Nov. 26-27, at midnight.

On a different point, those who have been missing McNulty should enjoy this Sunday's Wire episode, "Misgivings".

This is one of those plot development (especially in contrast to Namond's) that I am pissed I didn't see coming - in retrospect, it's rather obvious, and pretty classical actually.

Having somewhat um... jumped ahead (I just couldn't wait!), it's been difficult to generate any indepth discussions (which this show begs for, aaargh) in this thread for fear of spoiling people.

Yeah, that's a problem. But maybe we can have an "after game" discussion when all 13 episodes have aired in their regular Sunday night slots. There are just three more of those to go.

Re: THE WIRE season 4 (see post #1 re: SPOILERS)

I agree with everyone that it has been a little hard to discuss this season with everyone watching on different days.

My only hope for the rest of this season and next is that Clay Davis gets what's coming to him. The actor that plays him does a great job being slimy.

I watched the next episode last night and i suspect a lot of posts will happen the day after. There is a ton, in my opinion, of major plot points that come to the fore front. Can't wait to discuss.

Quick question: Is anyone disappointed with this season? i am totally enjoying it. i don't know where i would rank it yet with the other seasons, but i have loved each of the episodes that have been on.

I generally cannot stand the Poot character, but his conversations leading to the featured quote of last episode "World going one way, people another" had me dying.
