The new MINI for 2007

Can't say I'm impressed. While the exterior is a bit more sleeker and rounded off, the interior is a mess, very chopped up looking.

One thing is for certain, I'll be keeping my '03.

Ron, Can't tell from the depth perception missing in the photo, but I hope they have moved those cupholders back a bit - out from under the dash, where you had to jimmy-angle nothing taller than a can, hard to go in there.
(and forget those fast food cups!).
My one truly major 'gripe' about the mini.

They look forward of the pillars which to me looks like they are out from under the toggles and they also look bigger as well. But you're right, hard to tell from the pic.

Re: The new MINI for 2007

Why do the front passenger and rear passenger of every car within a 50' radius need to see the speedometer? I don't like the look of center guages, they should be in front of the driver. I love the mini but it is something that has prevented me from owning this awesome street legal go kart.

Speedometer? I thought that was a bathroom scale.

The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

OH no. You have just ruined me and possibly more with that comment.

I will never look at it again without thinking "bathroom scale."

Re: The new MINI for 2007

I guess you must have to be an aficionado of these cars to appreciate the changes, because they look about the same to me.??

In any case, I was most impressed with the fuel economy gains they've made with the new powerplants. I was just reading an article over at www.greencarcongress.com on it.

To my kids, though, these will always be Mike Wazowski's car.

Before I bought my Echo, I was in the same boat. I'd never go back now. It's the same as my ergo keyboard - once I got used to it, I found it much more functional than the standard keyboard.

For me, the same holds true for center guages.

That Mini dash looks like you could put a quarter in it and it'd tell you your weight and fortune.

Re: The new MINI for 2007

One big noticeable change is the fact the Mini now offers a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters across the range. I believe this change was due to the demands of the US market, where a decent automatic that doesn't seriously sap performance is highly-desirable for people who drive the Mini in commuter driving on the crowded freeways in the USA.

Re: The new MINI for 2007

The new engines are nicer but that interior would keep me from ever owning one. As for the mpg, I average 28 city / 35 hwy with my 5-speed. So the new engine, while better, is not much better.

I've never driven one but I think it looks terrific. That speedometer is wacky though. Can I weigh my meats and produce on that?

Re: The new MINI for 2007

While on the subject of dashboard layouts, at least the RPM gauge is front and center, for those that drive a standard, it's more important than the speedo...

p.s. re: bathroom scale, so when you accelerate onto a highway, do you ever feel the need to go on a diet? OMG, I'm getting fatter by the second!

Yeah but, that is one seriously ugly looking car.

^ I agree. Butt ugly. The sedan is okay, the 6's are nice, though.

Re: The new MINI for 2007

I have been driving my wife's Miniwhile my car is in the shop and have 2 comments.
1. I can't ever find anything! Bought some fluid yesterday for the windshield wipers and after 10 minutes of looking around, I had to call her to 'pop the hood'. Would have never guessed they hid it on the passenger side.
2. Who invented the Hieroglyphics they use and why don't they have a Roseeta stone? Not very easy to figure out while driving that's fore sure.

Fun car for the City and the best for parking. As a 100 mile RT commute car - not so hot. One of my carpoolers keeps losing feelings in his legs and my filings fly out after a bumpy road. But a car can't be everything to everyone and it's not.
