1080p vs 1080i/720p for PC Output

Hello,

I had my PC connected via component to my Toshiba (720p), and couldn't quite get 1:1 pixel mapping to work - for gaming and such it was great, but for windows it wasn't as clear/detailed.

Does anyone have any comparison opinion of what 1080p sets look like with a PC connected to them, vs 1080i/720p?

That might push me over the edge to buy one, since I want to get rid of my PC desk/LCD monitor, if the TV can display as good a picture....

For computing, the PC output should match the TV native resolution as closely as possible. There is no advantage in running 768p (1024x768) or 720p to a 1080p TV compared withj a 720p TV for computing purposes. But you may want to graduate to 1024p (1280x1024) by getting a 1080p TV and upping the PC output to 1024p or 1080p. You will not get good results running 1024p or 1080p from the computer to a 720p TV.

Using the computer as an HTPC you need to size up how well it converts 1080i to 1080p or 1080i to 720p. So far precious few HTPCs and precious few TV's do this well. Instead a common consequence is just 540 lines of vertical resolution.

I think 1280x1024 may work a litlte better than 1024 did for me - it was close to being usable as my main PC display, but wasn't quite there....
