Has anybody actually gotten headaches from the new tech?

Speaking from only my own experiences, I get a headache from the old-style blue/red glasses in about 20 minutes (after 30 minutes, it feels like I'm about to re-enact Scanners). However with the current 3-D system, I saw the Toy Story double feature and didn't have a problem for the over 3 hour running time.

I wear glasses and although I don't get headaches my eyes do fatigue pretty quickly.  It's worse with the smaller 3D glasses than it is with the IMAX 3D glasses.

I wear glasses as well, and when I saw "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs", it was my very first 3D experience. I overlayed the Real3D glasses over my own and had no problems with viewing whatsoever. It was so impressive my only regret is not seeing it again.

By the end of the "Toy Story" double featue, I had a slight headache, and that had a break in between movies. So almost three hours straight does not bode well for me.

This is all very interesting. With all the potential headache triggers I've got, I was sure the new process would have some side effects for me the way the 80's 3D flicks did. So far so good.

I've found I can't even see a regular movie with a slight headache, as it often gets worse while watching a film, so I totally understand your dilemma, Chad.

First FULL Avatar movie scene just released.   This is not a trailer.  Follow link below.

I can't freaking  wait. Look at the water at the end.  Is that CGI???????

WOWWWWWW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Like somebody else already mentioned  in an article................  "In Cameron, I trust"

www.cinemablend.com/new/First-Full-Scene-From-Avatar-Released-15823.html

Guys, imagine this scene in a Huge 3D IMAX screen  (not one of those small, fake make believe Imax screen additions to regular theaters but Real Stand Alone Imax theater)

I am very very impressed.  December 18 can't get here fast enough.

And here is another different version of Trailer #2.  It looks like the previous one but stay with the trailer until the end.  There are new scenes.  Specially impressive is scene at 2:24 and 2:31.  Look at the level of detail of those CGI characters.  I have never seen any CGI character smile like the male or express herself like the female in that clip.

I will say it again................ "In Cameron, I Trust"

Here are 1 minute samples of each cue from the soundtrack, courtesy of a European online music store:

http://www.sendspace.com/file/sy3q1u

It's only 5 mb in size because the samples are 56kbps mp3, and the song is limited to a 30 second sample length.

I put that IGN "Thanator Chase" scene on the PS3, and while the resolution was poor despite being an WMV-HD file over 100 MB in size, the movements are easy to see and they have sold me on this 100%. The only catch is that the Thanator creature itself moves like any other CGI creature / monster does, but at the same time there's no one frame of reference for movement like that the way there is for capturing the movements of actors.

Here's a look at the behind-the-scenes work done to capture the actor's performance and how they use it to create their CGI Navi character:

I'm just not seeing what is so groundbreaking about this film. Every technique he is using has been used in other motion capture driven films. Visually, it still looks amazing; however, so far the only groundbreaking thing I can see about this film is that -at 300 million- it has broken new ground in swollen budgets. It will be interesting to see if this turns out to be Cameron's version of "Heaven's Gate".

Those that come in by the window.

James Horner discusses the process of scoring AVATAR, his relationship with Jim Cameron (he says they've both grown up), and comments on the current trend in film scoring:

Clips from Horner's score, and a great interview with James Horner ('Scoring Avatar has been the most difficult job I've done'):

The clips from Horner's score have me extremely excited. He is by far my favourite composer and this sound is rich, textured, and complex....very exciting!

Hi Nicholas - I didn't see that (Obviously, I was too excited to check :)

I have the CD on pre-order and have my fingers crossed that Amazon delivers on release day. They have been spot on with getting blu-ray releases to me on release day.

I can't say for sure but it would be pretty odd if Fox has hyped the 3-D so much and then they'd decide to skip over all the digital 3-D theaters for, what I assume is, a much smaller number of IMAX 3-D theaters.

Should I see this in true Imax 3D or will Digital 3D due? I'm assuming the Imax will still be at 2.35:1.

Ended up going true Imax. Found a lone seat dead center and a couple rows from the back. PERFECT! I love assigned seating. Arrive 5 minutes before it shows, walk right in and sit in the prime spot.  "Lines? Where we're going we don't need...lines."

The IMAX shows will be 1.85:1. Cameron felt that the 3-D process was more immersive with more height to the image. The 2-D shows, though, will be 2.35:1.

^^ I believe ALL 3D showings will be 1.85:1.

So is stuff going to be chopped off at the sides in 3D then?
