Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

I called last week about the Volume 1 Disc One and it came in the mail today! There is a slight difference to this replacement discs cover, Tom just has more of a gray color to him on art than the original.

I guess I need to send the old disc back right? Just put it back in the mail box.

I was told today that the old discs must be returned FIRST.

What gives? That's a little chancy.

That's encouraging news. I would think most companies wouldn't want their customers to be empty-handed while a company-caused problem is fixed.

You are 100% correct.
Disc 1 / Volume 1 arrived today. Unedited and no aliasing.

The two brief bits in "Truce" and "Orphan" seem to have been hardly worth the bother of editing.

The shoe polish routine is very, very funny.

The replacement disc is well worth the wait.

Old disc is on it's way back.

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

If anyone happens to know, what's the address I should send the original censored disc to, the return address from which the replacement came from I'm guessing?

The reason I ask is, the disc envelope that was sent for the purpose of returning the censored disc is blank and from what I've read in this thread, other people have an address pre-printed on theirs.

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

I'm confused... is there a "replacement" disc being sent out for the previous replacement disc which was riddled with artifacts and interlacing errors?

I don't know about you guys, but on Pioneer 59-Avi, the PQ on the T&J Vol. 1 replacement was completely unwatchable. The disc is simply incorrectly flagged and improperly mastered.

It's utterly ridiculous and astonishing how consistent this dept. can be in screwing up the exact same things. You'd think they would at least have the common sense to devote some quality control and oversight to these replacements given the history with these sets.

I'd be quite satisfied with a full refund at this point. The sets are useless to me.

I'm not sure what your "Told you so" is proving, other than the fact that WHV succeeded in mailing out a bunch of needless defective pieces of plastic and have been utterly clueless and incompetent throughout this entire ordeal.

When I think back to the initial promise of complete, fully remastered, uncut & unedited, chronological sets... and look at what I now have sitting before me, I feel entirely taken advantage of. These sets are shameful and so has the entire three-plus-year-process of bringing attention to this been.

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

Here's another thread discussing these issues. It's been detailed from page 9-12, where others have acknowledged the faulty mastering issues with these new discs:

http://forums.goldenagecartoons.com/...?t=8098&page=9

For the record, I have played the disc on 3 separate players.

It's the year 2007, I should not have to do this with any new DVD.

It's equally ridiculous to try and justify these BLATANT ERRORS by turning a scapegoat to the "some TVs/players work" angle. Good for the "some people" who can actually watch the films they paid for! This is unforgivable and the exact same issue as the LTGC2 masterings.

I have a Pioneer Elite 59-AVi. I paid somewhere in the range $800 US for it a couple of years ago, brand new. It remains a top-of-the-line player in it's category. Save for disc 4 of the LTGCV2, I've never experienced any other problems like this. It's not an isolated incident. It is WHV doing what they do best when it comes to Tom & Jerry on DVD... being completely negligent to the product they're supposed to be delivering and screwing up big time, yet again.

I'm tired of all of this and I'm angry that I went out and bought both of these box sets a second time and WASTED my money, based on the promises made here and by WHV that all would be corrected. All is not corrected and the replacement discs are just as bad as the censored versions.

If I'd kept the receipts of purchase for these two sets, I'd be returning them this afternoon and spending my money on something that shows a hint of effort.

This whole ordeal is shameful and frankly, whoever's been in charge of the T&J catalogue at the company really ought to be looking for a new line of work.

I've got my envelope from the replacement of Vol 2 sitting here.
The destination address label reads:
Warner Home Video
400 Del NorteBlvd.
Oxnard, Ca 93030

And yes, there is a missing space between "Norte" and "Blvd.", which I'm mildly amused by.

FYI, there is also a 6 digit number on the return address label. I suspect that might be some kind of identification number so they can match up the envelope with your information. If that's the case, you may want to contact Warner anyways.

On a related note, I'm debating whether I should bother with the Vol 1replacement, given the defects on the new disks. I'm curious as to what everyone's personal opinions are. Am I better off with the original disks, or with the replacement ones when all is said and done?

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

I came up with a theory about the double "Texas Tom" on both Volumes. I was disapointed to see that one of my favorite episodes, "Tennis Chumps" is missing. This short was connected to "Texas Tom" because of tobacco Issues. I think maybe they just screwed it up. When, if they will, do you think they'll make a 3rd volume? I say complete the Hanna and Barbera 114 Episode series and appeal to the Chuck Jones fans, if any, later on down the line. I made a little something you people might want to see.

These are all of the shorts of Tom and Jerry that should be on the 3rd Volume:

A Mouse in the House
Mouse Cleaning
Hatch Up Your Troubles
Love That Pup
Jerry's Diary
Tennis Chumps
The Framed Cat
Casanova Cat
His Mouse Friday
The Duck Doctor
Little Runaway
Fit to Be Tied
The Dog House
That's My Pup
Life with Tom
Puppy Tale
Posse Cat
Hic-cup Pup
Neapolitan Mouse
Downhearted Duckling
Pet Peeve
Southbound Duckling
Pup on a Picnic
Mouse for Sale
Smarty Cat
That's My Mommy
The Egg and Jerry - CinemaScope remake of Hatch Up Your Troubles
Busy Buddies
Barbecue Brawl
Tops with Pops - CinemaScope remake of Love That Pup
Timid Tabby
Feedin' the Kiddie - CinemaScope remake of The Little Orphan
Tom's Photo Finish
Happy Go Ducky

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

I don't know why anyone would give Warner Bros. any more money at this point to continue this series...

The only way they could rectify this situation as far as I'm concerned, is to give each of the films a proper remaster and re-issue the entire run of Tom & Jerry's in a complete and uncut boxed set, free of any technical faults that have marred past releases.

These are some of the best animated short films to emerge from the golden age of Hollywood cinema, and the way they've been treated is utterly shameful. Bear in mind that these are among my most favorite animated shorts of all-time, but I don't care if Warner Bros. gave away free money in each boxed set, I would NOT purchase or support anything else from them in the way of this series unless they affected some serious management overhaul in this department and really made good on this whole mess. As of right now, I'm rightly fed up with the whole situation.

I received a replacement Volume 1 Disc 1 last week and it is perfectly fine!

My advice is to request a replacement and try it.
If it's defective, you can return it in the SASE and you're no worse off than before.

It pays to at least TRY.

As a post script to this thread...

I received the two replacement discs of T&J Volume 2 yesterday.

After auditioning them all the way through, both discs play perfectly.
On a Sony flat screen LCD monitor, there's neither aliasing nor blurriness.

Looks like Warner's has got it right, finally.

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

I have held off buying these sets because of the issues, but I'm thinking of getting the 3-pack when volume 3 is released in September. I'm hoping the bundled first 2 sets will have the corrected discs. But if not, I would just go the replacement route.

Now Mark Zimmer's saying no one is answering the phone number. Do any of the mods know (or could they find out this month) if (a) the corrected discs will be in the 3-pack and/or if (b) the replacment program is still going on.

Is this for disc 4 of the second golden collection (to fix the interlacing issues)?

I would imagine that Warners (and every other retailer) may still have the uncorrected discs sitting in their inventory. The sets weren't recalled or discontinued for the correct ones (a la the Superman set), they just offered the replacements so I would think that the stock of uncorrected discs is pretty deep.

Well I can confirm that the corrected discs are now making their way to stores. I purchased both Vol 1 and Vol 2 yesterday at BJ's Wholesale Club and can confirm based on directory codes and dates posted in this thread that these are the corrected discs. Thanks to all who posted that information and saved me the trouble of returning discs that were actually the correct versions!

Re: Warner Home Video Tom & Jerry Replacement Program (UPDATE 1/30/07 POST #134)

Does anyone remember using vinyl records? There used to be information etched in the area between the grooves and the label, denoting the album's catalog number. I noticed after a time that you could tell if you were getting a first pressing a lot of times.

With this principle in mind, The information on my Tom & Jerry disks are as follows:

Volume 1 Dick 1:

Original 7Y658781.A VA01
Corrected 7Y65878V2.1.B VB01

Volume 2

Disk 1 Original 7Y67324V3.1.A VB01
Disk 1 Corrected 7Y67324V4.1.A VA03

Disk 2 Original 7Y67324V2.2.B VB01
Disk 2 Corrected 7Y67324V3.2.B VC01

I know that has little if anything to do with the actual properties of the disk information, but it did tell me that a different version was mailed to me from Warner Brothers. I throw that in for what it's worth.
