I like the second more I guess because I've seen it about 200 times on Tv and can recite it in my sleep (or could, back in the day).

YES! I can't wait. I've waited for so long to get these in anamorphic widescreen! I remember reading in the Warner chat that these were coming. Same goes for anamorphic versions of the "Grumpy Old Men" films. Can't wait for those either!

Why not offer them seperately with their respective extras/cartoons?

I'd pay the same to not have the second film included!

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

Awwww.....do I HAVE to get the second one too?

That's okay...as long as I finally have the original in anamorphic widescreen, I'll consider the second one as one of the extra features. Maybe I'll just consider it an easter egg and not look for it in the set.

Disappointing special features, I have to say. Why aren't all the deleted scenes from the first movie included? The network version apparently had a number of added scenes.

I watched "Ace" on TBS a few months back and saw the new scenes. It came quite unexpectedly and frankly threw me for a loop. lol Although I wouldn't want them integrated into the movie itself (killed the flow of the film IMO), it would've been nice to see them as deleted scenes on the new DVD. Regardless, we're finally getting "Ace" in widescreen, so I'll stop nitpicking. Also, I must be in the minority here, but I quite enjoyed the second film. I found it to be pure mindless fun. Especially the part where he's trying to get out of the mechanical rhinoceros. All the while, the family looking on thinks it's real (and giving birth). I busted a gut. lol Needless to say, I'm looking forward to both of these.

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

I've been holding out on buying the current release for as long as I've had a DVD player because I was hoping for a new release with the scenes shown in the broadcast version. Any idea why they wouldn't include these?

Because it's a simple repackaging with a new transfer.

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

Well, $19.97 SRP means it will be at least $14.99 on release date, with probably one or more of the "biggies" streeting it at $12.99. I'm willing to re-buy #2 to get an anamorphic #1, especially since the transfer on #2 is really showing its age.

How can it be a repackaging when both discs have been remastered?

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

There is no excuse not to have the deleted scenes from the TV version, but I'll be glad to replace one of the last full screen DVDs of my collection. Sounds like a good price for both films as well.

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

I also would rather have just the first one. But if both can be had for about $15, OK.

I keep forgetting, is the scene where he acts like some kind of german animal specialist, (just after he gets out of Snowflake's tank), in the theatrical release or was that an added scene. All I can remember is I've seen the movie with and without that scene.

The first one was great. But the second one was too forced, IMHO. Too much of Jim Carrey trying to portray his earlier incarnation of Ace vs. the first one, where he just was Ace.

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

So does that mean the second one is widescreen as well? It says it for the first but not the second.

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

They're probably trying to make it clear that it's not the same transfer as the previous disc, which was already anamorphic 2.35, but it is weird that it's missing the line that says that.

I didn't like the second one too much, but I'm glad I'll be able to see both the rhinoceros, and the spit ball scenes again.

I will be picking this up for the first movie alone. Thanks Warner, how about a Grumpy Old Men 2 pack in anamorphic widescreen?

The German animal doctor scene was added for the home video version on VHS.

I believe the upcoming (Aug 22) release of Grumpy/Grumpier is Anamorphic. DVD Empire lists it as so and on the Warner chat earlier this year they indicated the 2 films would be remastered this year.

Re: Ace Ventura Deluxe Double Feature - 9/5

Sweet; been waiting forever to get the first one.

Kind of bittersweet now that HD is here though.

If I buy, I know I'll just be re-buying in the near future.

Maybe they'll save the deleted scenes from PD or a branching version for a HD release. Quite disappointing they're not included on this one.

Haha. The cover art reminds me that I used to carry in my wallet the business card that came with the VHS.

I hear ya Grant. Of course, given all the bugs in the first revs of both HD and BR, coupled with the expected lack of A-list titles at launch, I'm not itching to upgrade just yet (not to mention, I want all major manufacturers to really figure out 1080p on their sets). Contrast this with the fact that I bought my first DVD player during the 7 test city time frame (May 1997).

I'll make do w/ Ace in reg-def. I just want a good anamorphic OAR presentation and I'll be happy. Upgrading 2 (hopefully it will not be a rehash of the original transfer) is just icing on the cake.

That's funny. It took them nine years to do the Ace Ventura movies (half) right. Highly doubtful they'll be top priority for HD, so your estimate of "near future" is a stretch.

Depends... If these discs come from new masters, then the eventual HD releases may not take as long

Man, an hour wasted on this sig! Thanks, Toshiba! :p
