Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

WOO HOO! I just caught part of GCHI on AMC the other day and was wondering if this set was still coming- Love the box art too.
price seems kind steep for just three films- but if the transfer are good and you can get it for under $30 online, i won't complain.
This and the Grable set all within just a couple months time- life is sweet for the moment

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

So much for those that were giving grief to Fox about not releasing Mansfield films to dvd, but that MSRP is still too high. That's quite a lot for just three films. Anyhow, a matter of supply and demand so we'll see how this boxset sells.

More Frank Tashlin! Finally, after I thought FOX would abandon this release. The box artwork looks great (esp. with the vintage 20th Century Fox logo). Hopefully they'll be fully restored with decent extras.

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

I have the UK Region 2 version of THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT and while it still looks quite nice with reasonably good sharpness and excellent Colors, it is non Anamorphic 4:3 Letterbox and only Mono Sound.

I would imagine that this new Region 1 release will at least be Anamorphic, but will it be Stereo?
Most of the recordings of the early Rock and Roll Stars featured would have been Mono, so was this ever in Stereo?

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

frankly, I have never found any evidence that Girl cant Help it was stereo. This is also the perios that Fox began to do some scope mono films including Teenage Rebel, Love Me Tender, Oh Men Oh Women.

i wonder if mariska hargitay is aware of this release coming out. she should do some promotion on it for it to sell better.

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

I've seen the Australian version of The Girl Can't Help It, as released by Umbrella Entertainment. The only feature of note is an interview with John Waters about the film. I wish Fox would let him do a commentary for the film, his analysis is hilarious. But I guess Fox would think he was too low brow... but isn't the film low brow? I think the film is quite funny.

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

I am hoping that Fox has done a new transfer and extras for the Region 1 set hence the price. Also the higer price may be due to song royalties - most likely the main reason why TGCHI was delayed so many years in the US?

I have been waiting for these several years but if we can get them for around $10-$13 each then it's worth it.

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

What happened to "THE WAYWARD BUS", I haven't seen that one in a 100 years. I liked that one better than "FRACTURED JAW" !!!!!!!!!
Are there enough for a second box set ?
Or are they saving that one for a JOAN COLLINS set ???

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

I always used to call that film "The Wayward Busts"- I mean, any film with Jayne Mansfield and Joan Collins in it HAS to be top-heavy in stars!
Bring "The continuing story of PEYTON PLACE" home on DVD: the one that started it all- from Dallas and Dynasty to Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl!!! Starting this May, see the legendary saga starring Mia Farrow, Ryan O'Neal, Barbara Parkins, and Oscar-winner Dorothy Malone on DVD thru Shout!...

I want this one. Then I'd like to hear Bobby Troup singing THE GIRL CAN'T HELP IT.

Wayward Bus has been out of circulation for years because of rights problems with the steinbeck estate, so I was not surprised when it was canceled out of the set.

Isn't "Sheriff Of Fractured Jaw" 1.85 as opposed to scope?

Here are the special features for the two Tashlin films (Sheriff of Fractured Jaw is bare-bones):

The Girl Can't Help It
“Jayne Mansfield: Blonde Ambition” (documentary)
Commentary by film historian Toby Miller

Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter?
Commentary by film historian Dana Polan

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

I just picked this set up for $29.87 and free shipping. While FRACTURED JAW was only OK, the other two are great films, and the commentaries are excellent. Frank Tashlin is at his feature film prime, with great use of color and sight gags, as well as a sharp sense of satire. The bit in SUCCESS with Tony Randall and the television watchers' intermission is priceless.

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

Kinda sorry that the John Waters segment wasn't ported over from the Australian and UK DVDs -- I bet it was really incisive. People forget that aside from funny, Waters is very astute about culture and history. He should be given opportunity to comment on other directors' films the same way that Peter Bogdonavich has for many WB noirs.

Ordered this set (He said "set" ) just to get The Girl Can't Help it...but now I've been educated.
Jayne can act.
I had no idea. She seems like a really sweet bright girl, and she can act!
Another discovery, "The Treniers", fantastic jump blues group, I've ordered a CD.
Bud: "Deanie, you're a nice girl."
Wilma Dean: "I'm not. I'm not a nice girl."

I agree with you, the Waters interview on the Australian DVD is very informative, he clearly loves the film. Fox should've got him to do a commentary for the entire film.

Re: Fox announce 'The Jayne Mansfield Collection' in August

I finally watched Rock Hunter and in the special features section, it has a trailer for "Kiss Them For Me." Does anyone know why this wasn't included in the collection??

Because "Kiss Them for Me" was already released on dvd back in January, 2004.

Crawdaddy

Thanks. They had it under Jayne Mansfield Collection trailers, so I figured it was going to be in the set, but later scrapped.
