"The Wolf Man" Remake with Benicio Del Toro

Andrew Kevin Walker is writing a script for a remake of "The Wolf Man" which will star Benicio Del Tero. They are aiming for a Summer 2008 release. To say Del Toro is an inspired choice, is an understatement.

I know I'm supposed to engage in a rant here about the unoriginality of Hollywood and how dare they remake such a classic film, but I kind of like this idea. Del Toro is certainly good casting and I'd love to see a high quality werewolf film.

Well, let's not forget that THE WOLF MAN was somewhat of a retelling of WEREWOLF OF LONDON. Not to mention all the rips that 1941 film has had since its original release. I'd guess this film will be more like WOLF instead of THE WOLF MAN. Of course, I'd be all for it if they go for a beautiful B&W horror film.

Perhaps the screenwriter will try to explain how Lon Chaney was the son of Claude Rains.

This is a bit of a head scratcher since the article I read this morning said it was going to be a period piece (the same nebulous alternate history/time of the original)... how is the audience supposed to believe that Del Toro is an British expat returning home from America?

Del Toro is a good choice.

Remake or not, I love seeing other peoples visions of monster classics. After all, aren't the Hammor Horror fills remakes??

Like the 1941 original that starred Lon Chaney Jr., the new film will be set in Victorian England.


I've seen The Wolfman countless times. I musn't have been paying too much attention because I thought it was set in modern (late 1930's - early 40's) England.

I think Baker's work looks as good as makeup has ever looked.

I'll see the film for it alone, though hopefully it's a good film otherwise.

Yeah, it's great, it's a wolf MAN.

I always thought that it was a problem with many werewolf movies is that the final result is more on the wolf side (or in some cases, bear-like), when I always felt that the way Lon Chaney Jr. looked in The Wolf Man was by far the scariest looking.

I like it. As noted, the whole point of werewolves is that they're wolf-men or wolf-women. If you totally lose the human characteristics, what's the point? For me, the worst werewolf films are where the people turn into realistic, normal-looking wolves (like in "Blood & Chocolate").

Though I do admit I sort of like the hybrid look as well (like with "The Howling" and "Dog Soldiers").

While Baker's werewolf for "American Werewolf" was cool, I vastly prefer what you call the "hybrid" - bipedal werewolf, with a much more wolfish head.

I get that Baker is going for an homage to the original makeup, and probably also wanting to do something different from the "hybrid" look that's become the default approach to the finished transformation. But the 80s hair metal mop is a bit much, and I just don't think it's very scary or monstrous.

To each their own. I find this design a hell of a lot scarier than any werewolf design we've gotten since maybe Copolla's Dracula and that was only for a small scene. (although I did very much like the design of the werewolf in Prisoner of Azkaban.. very creepy)And just thinking how bad it could've been... remember...

I think those pics look great. There were pics last week on AICN of DelToro in bloody ripped clothes as well.



Also liking the return to a more classic look.I havent seen a werewolf design Ive liked in awhile.
