Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth
The film is in Spanish, so there will be no dialogue in any American ads. Don't want the anyone to think they might have to read

I'm very, very, very excited about this film

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth
Every last review at Rotten Tomatoes had been glowing, it has a 100% rating....odd.
In fact Ray Bennett over at Hollywood Reporter said:
Quote:
| As Ofelia faces these challenges, her mother struggles with an increasingly difficult pregnancy and the captain devises ever more gruesome ways to torture captive resistance fighters. The girl's adventures are as real to her as the surrounding horrors and Del Toro's great accomplishment is in weaving the two together so convincingly. |
....I will see it nonetheless and judge for myself, but I have high hopes in spite of myself (rather pessimistic at times).

Re: Del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth
Kevin,
His "non-commercial" films are heads and shoulders above his Hollywood stuff. I enjoyed Hellboy and Blade II. Both were above average for what they were. They both have some great moments.
Check out The Devil's Backbone. You won't regret it in the least. And if you like it at all, you'll like Pan's Labyrinth.
I also love (LOVE) the tagline:
Innocence has a power evil cannot imagine.
The film completely earns that tagline.

There are also thematic connections and similar tone, but there are no narrative connections.
