My daughter and I polished off Batman The Animated Series Vol. 1 this morning. These shows are still so timeless. I wish to heck they were producing new episodes in this continuity instead of that wretched new "The Batman."

There are so many shows that were pretty much blind buys for me on DVD. Frasier, Cheers, Family Guy, Seinfeld, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Arrested Development, Home Improvement.. many of which have gone on to become favourites of mine, yet I'd never seen any of them before I bought the respective first seasons of each show on DVD. Anyone else here find a new favourite show thanks to a blind DVD purchase?

Wonderfalls and Gilmore Girls are both blind buys I feel in love with. Curb Your Enthusiasm, not so much -- I liked season one and would probably buy future seasons at the right drastically discounted price (much like I bought season 1 when it was dirt cheap at the holidays), but I'm not desperate for more.

I have several blind buy sets in my collection that I haven't started watching yet, including Arrested Development, Freaks & Geeks, Millennium, Nip/Tuck, Tru Calling and The West Wing, all of which I picked up at various dirt cheap sales over the last year or so. I hope to find a few more new favorites!

i wouldn't buy DVDs sight unseen. i'd have to have seen it first. not only that, but i'd have to know that i'd rewatch it before plunging. and nowadays (for new shows post 2000) i'd want Hi-Def copies of the shows.

Just polished off season one of Veronica Mars. I came to the show late in season one, so it was very interesting to see the genesis and enjoy almost a whole season's worth of new-to-me episodes. I wish season two would come out tomorrow, even though I followed season two religiously, because I'm ready to watch more. Best show on television today, easily.

It's so annoying how exams/revision get in the way of this challenge! Thankfully I only have one exam left after next Friday (16th), so from then I should be able to resume the challenge in a major way, and get through the two 'big' collections, The Simpsons and Friends, within a month or so, as well as make it through the massive deluge of new and old releases I plan to get this summer.

I'm now officially half-way through, though I won't progress too much beyond 50-55% for a while as there's a massive deluge of sets I plan to pick up over the next two months or so. Still, for now, I'm on target. Anyone else approaching/reached half-way through?

Good gosh, do I love me some Scrubs! Just got seasons 2 and 3 in the my DDD order on Friday, and I've already polished off season 2! I will start season 3 tonight. Anyone know when season 4 is coming?

Typically they come out in the States a month or two after the UK R2 set, which for S4 is October - so I'd guess just before Christmas for R1. That's just a guess, mind, don't hold me to it

I've slowly made some progress, though I've watched 21 seasons of shows out of around 130 or so. So I'm not even remotely close to watching it all. Between new shows I watch on tv, watching movies or concerts on DVD, I end up mixing it up between a lot of other things.

I'm doing pretty good myself; 106/158 sets complete, 1734/2532 episodes done. I expect to hit 200 sets by year end, but regardless, I think I'll manage at least 80-90%, if not 100%.

As of 1st Nov I was at about 70%; I've pretty much given up on this year's challenge, but I did do better than I thought I would this year.

Would anyone else mind if we started next year's challenge on 25th Dec this year? I'd like to include my Christmas viewing..

shortly after i made my last post here, i managed to finish xf. that's the only TV-on DVD i own. after that i was on the warpath again and rented s2 through s4. i'm currently watching demon and the s4 finale Gethsamane is next =). s5 here i come =).

Just wrapped up the 5th season of the original Twilight Zone. Now it's on to the '80s Zone which did have some good stuff in it. Any DVD viewing I do from now until 12/31/06 will be TV-on-DVD, so I'm not finished with the challenge yet!

I've been gamely watching TV on DVD this year, tho, having completed A-Team S2, Bewitched S2, Brady Bunch S2, Brisco County, Buffy S1-S4, Charmed S1-S4, The Dead Zone Seasons 1-2 and most of 3, Family Guy Vols. 2-3, most of Friends S6, Harvey Birdman Vol. 1, Invasion, The Incredible Hulk, JAG S1-S2, Lost Season 2, NewsRadio S1-S2, Sleeper Cell, and most of Star Trek: TNG Season 1.

Alas, I currently own 90 TV shows on DVD and 13 miniseries/specials. No way, I'll finish this year and probably even next, too.

I'm just about to start the 2007 thread, assuming no-one objects, so those of you who didn't make it this year, book your place for next year.

As I said earlier I'd like to start the new challenge on Christmas Day, but I'll mention in the first post you can either go from Christmas Day or New Year's Day - it's not a competition, we don't have to be strict.

I just updated mine with the last couple of shows I'm finishing a season to complete my 2006 tally. I'd say I probably only made it through a quarter or a third of my overall tv on DVD collection. I watched a lot of stuff, but between movies on DVD, stuff on the DVR that's currently airing, and all sorts of other distractions, I didn't get as far as I'd hoped. Oh, well. There's always the 2007 challenge to see if I can make it through a bit more next time. Certainly, I can watch the stuff I didn't watch this year and at least make progress through watching everything I own over a couple of years.
