Its time for the 2006 HTF TV on DVD challenge:

The rules…
1.The Goal is to watch all the TV on DVD in your collection, be they best of releases, individual episodes, or complete season sets.
2.What counts for TV on DVD? Anything covered by TV Shows on DVD.com is up for the challenge…including TV shows, made for TV movies, and miniseries.
3.Things such as audio commentaries, and other extras contained on sets our purely optional…they are extras, and the focus should be on the programs themselves, but they can be included if you wish.
4.No movies, unless made for TV…this is a television challenge, count movies towards the film challenge.
5.The challenge will begin at 12:01 AM on 01/01/2006 and will end at 11:59 PM 12/31/2006.
6.Post your progress in this thread, in whatever form best suits you. If you want to list each episode you watched and the date, go for it, if you want to list each set and the day you started/the day you finished, that’s fine…just make it easy for others to tell how much you’ve watched and how far you have to go to complete the challenge.

So what do you want us to do? Shall we keep a running diary post on here, and then edit that same post as we've watched more stuff? That way the thread won't be 800 pages long...I think it's a good idea, if I follow the rules correctly.

Typically, we've all staked out our spots in the past and then just updated the post with what we've watched. Some people update the post every time they watch an episode, some others every time they complete a set, and still others update the thing once a month with everything they watched that month.

We'll also periodically bump the thread up throughout the year as a reminder and so people can see our progress that might be following the thread/new members.

What the heck? Something else to draw me to the computer and utilize my Excel/Access programs. I'm already keeping track anyway. I'll have to decide on a format after I've gone a few days.

Since this is the first time I've done this, I didnt know it was proper to list everything and check as you go. See my attached list at the bottom.

UPDATE 01 -
We start off the challenge by clearing out some box sets towards the top of the unwatched pile. Monday was the first danger and mystery with Dangerous Assignment from 1952. And for a budget release of a public domain show, this is a NICE looking set. Tuesday was an all-you-can-eat festivle of squid and calamari with Sigmund and the Sea Monsters. Making good inroads on both shows - but both have a long way to go.

Today was a suprise entry into the running. My roommate bought me Seaquest for my birthday. Having not watched the show for 13 years now, I'm pleased how well it held up all this time.

UPDATE 2
Well, my big plan kind of went off the rails when I got ahold of the new Grand Theft Auto for 20 bucks. Then I got hit by a car and forced to surf the couch. That got me caught up again. So I powered through my Walking With discs, got half way thorough seaQuest and took some Cosmos for a spin.

I'm in. But I'm only going to watch the sets I have not watched yet, is that cool?

Sounds like fun. Most of my collection is TV on DVD anyways.

BTW, I'm assuming that tthe Disney Treasure Tins count also?

The challenge is what you make of it, there are really 2...the full challenge which is to watch everything, and the mini challenge which is to watch all the unwatched stuff.


This fits in to what I'd like to call the gray area. I saw a lot of those shorts on TV when I was growing up, and so I'd say that if you count the Looney Tunes Golden collections its not unreasonable to count these as well, although I can also understand why a person might not. If you want to add them go for it, if not then don't its not like there's a prize for winning or something and these are rules that will be strictly enforced. Its just a way to get people to watching things in their collection and to share with others what we've watched in a given year.
