i got the Hitch box, now what do i do with...?

This may have been touched upon in one or the other of the extensive threads already about the new Hitchcock boxed set, and if so I apologize for repeating this.

But, I just got the new Hitchcock box, and I want to know what you would do with the few Hitchcock films I already had on disc, such as the "orange film poster" version of VERTIGO? Do you sell them back? Do you keep them? What do you do with the discs you already had?

This is just me, but when I buy a DVD that is a replacement for the same title, the older one goes in the trash.

It depends for me really, sometimes I'll keep the older disc (it's always useful to have a back-up copy) or I give the older title away to either my sister or girlfriend

I feel like I should always have "a backup copy," as well. If I get carried away with that I'll start buying two of everything, tho. So, I guess what I'll do with the dupes of Hitchcock stuff I have now is sort of "hide" the older discs in their snappers, put them on another shelf away from the main collection.

I love that old orange VERTIGO box art, tho...

Trash...?

I sold my 6 on Amazon. They went pretty quickly, too. After selling them, my net price for the new box was about $15.00.

Cheers,

I wouldn't trash anything outright. At least try to sell them. Or give them away.

In general, though, I find it hard to part with my stuff, even when it's no longer useful. Sickness.

But, Micah, sell 'em.

And then buy ME that Hitch-set and I'll sell mine too!

He's got the bit between his teeth... all right!

As much as I like the orange cover on my old Vertigo DVD, the transfer is crap compared to the new one. Not to mention it doesn't feature the mono track. It's going up on eBay.

I sell my old DVD titles when upgrading. In the case of the Hitchcock set, I made almost enough to pay for the new set (I had 10 of the 14 titles).

I would never throw away an old disc. There have been a few titles that I had trouble selling -- I just gave those away to someone starting a collection.

If you happen to have the original release of REAR WINDOW, you may want to keep it for the complete screenplay on DVD-ROM; otherwise, the other Hitchcock originals can be sold off with no loss.

If you don't want to bother with e-bay, half.com, etc you can sell the DVDs to Digital Eyes (you can get $6 for each of the Universal Hitchcock titles - if you had all 14 that alone would have paid for the boxset). I got rid of about 25 titles that were all original copies of titles I had double-dipped on and I got enough store credit to buy about 10 new DVDs. Of course you can do a lot better of e-bay if you have the time and patience for it.
