Honestly, that's the best one I've heard so far.
The man I loved - the man who vanished - he never came back at all. But maybe he's still out there, somewhere. Maybe some day, when Gotham no longer needs Batman, I'll see him again.

Thanks, Oscar for those links. Reading the interview and seeing the extras on the second disc of the deluxe edition makes me like the movie even more. Nolan gets the character, cares about making a solid movie, and does things for a reason.
"Batman: Escalation" sounds pretty cool to me. Very organic, given the last scene of BB, and a great theme to build on as well. Fear was a predominant theme in BB; perhaps the next film could deal with Batman getting a handle on his anger, power, and methods of dealing with criminals.

This will probably get rolled into the main BB2 thread, but Keaton was my choice right after I saw BB. I think he'd nail it. Regardless of the interesting fact he played Batman once...that might even help.
Take care,

Keaton didn't have a chin for Batman, and sure as hell doesn't have the chin for the Joker.

What Joker Chin? I've seen him drawn so many ways. Keaton does have the facial structure for it, IMO. His looks are a big reason I think he'd work. He certainly looks more like it than Nicholson did, and he managed OK

Here's another
Joker rendition by Brian Bolland in "The Killing Joke", that's pretty close to what I envision the Joker looking like for casting purposes. I was never too keen on the Nicholson-as-Joker casting choice.

I know the Bolland Chin, Patrick. My point was that the actor could make it work. Keaton's face is angular enough. Besides, Bolland and TAS Joker don't have similar chins either

I think Keaton the actor could make it work. I haven't seen the President movie or Herbie Lohan, so I don't know if he still has the chops.
But at one time...he'd have been perfect.
Take care,
Chuck

One thing that really came out in this film were the similarities between Batman and Bond – the playboy lifestyle, the gadgets, the villains. Did you consciously go for that feel?
Oh yeah, absolutely. Frankly, I’m surprised it didn’t get noticed more because to me they’re fairly direct influences. It was something I was very keen to do. When I talked to the studio about what I wanted to do with the character, I talked about the Bond sensibility, that idea of recognisable grounded reality but then very heightened to take it into a sort of more entertaining realm. We really did try to look back to the best of the previous Bond movies, in terms of the direction, of tone. Also, technically in terms of how we tried to achieve things, because over the years those films have set the standard of technical excellence in terms of stunt work and special effects as opposed to visual effects, you know, what’s going on on the floor. So we really tried to avail ourselves of the people who’d worked on those films and a lot of their method.
But whatever the similarities, once he puts on the suit, I suppose, he's Batman.
Yeah, I guess once he puts his ears on he has his own iconography that kind of dominates. |

Interesting you say that Ocean, about "Killing Joke". Alan Moore, the writer completely agrees, saying the Brian Bolland art is fantastic and pleaseing, but admitting that he dropped the ball on the story. He also isn't happy with the grim and gritty direction that comics took after that and "Dark Knight" changed comics.
A Joker story is a givin for the sequel, and I'd like to see a return of Ghul in the third, maybe taking Batman to the middle east with Talia. Really open up the franchise to all of it's possibilities.

From a story on Dark Horizons, it appears that Phillip Seymour Hoffman is being considered for the role of the Penguin.

The story also mentions Sam Rockwell campaigning for the part of the Joker. While he may not have the height, I think he has the looks and acting chops to do it.
On a side note, it's interesting to me that Nolan is working again with Christian Bale for The Prestige, which means they might end up working together for 3 films in a row (assuming the sequel to BB is after The Prestige).

Rockwell would be an inspired (and great) choice. I'd never complain about PSH in a film either. Both of those actors are outstanding and unique.

For those itching for a bit more Batman news and discussion, I recommend Batman on Film. I lurk there infrequently and post even less, but it appears the studio and/or filmmakers give it some attention.

Chuck, I agree with you - both choices wuold be great and in line with what Nolan has done so far. Rockwell, with good writing, could make a great Joker.

| According to Moviehole, via Cinematical, Johnny Depp is director Christopher Nolan's top choice for The Joker, and Rachel Weisz would play a Femme-fatale character (who I believe may be Harley Quinn) |
Ugh! I hope that rumor is false. Rachael Weisz was in that b-movie
Constantine. Terrible choice for Harley Quinn. She couldn't be her. Harley Quinn is supposed to be a young sexy woman, someone like (as has been suggested) Keira Knightley.

Depp could do the Joker. Probably even be inspired casting.
I had heard Weisz was considered for Talia...good choice. Not good for Harley, but I think Harley is outside of where the film is ready to go...same with Robin. Too silly for their approach, especially in a second film. Have to lay the groundwork first before working a script to get THEM in. Diaz 11 years ago. Too old now. The actress would have to be in her early 20s.
That said, I am eternally thrilled Begins is getting a sequel. We were a little worried there for a few weeks, until WOM kicked in! Fantasy has been on a great run lately, but I feel Begins was unique in it's cinematic approach. I am simply happy the same team will be back for another film. With the groundwork laid, they could make something incredibly special for round two. Provided the script is up to par.

I think Cameron Diaz is too tall/skinny to be Harley Quinn, but Drew Barrymore might fit the bill better in terms of physical appearance/build. Amy Poehler would be really zany has HQ as well.

Yeah, that's the current rumor not the
Weisz = Harley rumor. She's a wonderful choice to play Talia and I think the Talia character is a great plot development... the vengeance angle mixed with love. Very explosive.
