I don't think anything will ever top X2 for me. I think a lot of people forgot about it when Spider-Man 2 came out because they were so overwhelmed by how much more serious and different it was from other comic book movies, but I would not let its uniqueness blind me to the fact that it is inferior to X2 (although I WAS impressed by how original it was). My problem with Spider-Man 2 is that it had some dialogue-heavy dead spots (not that I have no patience for dialogue, as evidenced by the fact that Before Sunrise is one of my favourite films), which caused the movie to drag a little for me. I think X2 is still better because it had just the right balance of dialogue and action, never stopping too long for dialogue-heavy scenes too much, and making sure that when they did, what was said never got boring.
Batman Begins , on the other hand, had the problem of having better dialogue-heavy scenes than actions scenes. I just can't get over how annoying the quick-cutting in the action scenes was (even after its purpose was explained to me, I still don't agree with it), I still don't like the Batmobile and felt that the scene with it went on too long just to show it off, and Bale was a little over-the-top as Batman. So while Batman Begins and Spider-Man 2 are both great movies, I still think they're both a distant second to X2.

Just saw the first one, (Batman Begins). I liked it, although, as others mention, some of the things could have been better. The editing on the actions scenes, also had a bit of trouble catching some of the dialog, (due to volume of voice, dialect, etc.) Still a pretty good take on Batman, looking forward to a sequel.

If you watch the DVD, you'll see that the fight cheoreographers used a relatively new type of martial arts combat (the name escapes me at the moment) which relies heavily on in-close fighting.
Christopher Nolan wanted to get away from the "ballet" style fight scenes and wire work.
So I think it is important to point out though the style of fight scenes in Batman Begins is very much intended to be the way it was.

The fighting style is called KFM for short...but I think the long name is Keysi fighting style created by two stunt guys over the past 20 years. It's very high impact and close range fighting using alot of elbow blows.

Spidey 2 gets rated lower because there are too many whack you over the head moments. Yes, I know Peter is having bad stuff happening in his personal life. Yes, I know Harry hates Spider-Man. It all gets laid on a bit too thick for my tastes.
To be honest, BB is about as well as you can do an origin story, which is why it rates higher than the first Spidey, which was my high water mark as origin stories go.

Joe, I caught Sin City on DVD. It was barely watchable, IMHO. My wife got up and didn't even watch all of it. I was OK to watch it, but it just didn't click with me.

What I liked about it was that those scenes made it feel like a horror movie. It very much reminded me of "Alien". Less is more. For these criminals, it's not a guy dressed in a batsuit... it's a terrifying creature.

This is why Samm Hamm was so disappointed when they hired Nicholson as the Joker,because he thought they should emphasize the doppleganger thing as much as possible. The Joker should resemble Bruce Wayne.

I've come to accept the Spidey films, but they will never be favorites of mine. Maybe if the franchise is ever re-started like Batman has been it will have a second chance with me. I recognize what is good about them, but for my particular tastes, neither the lead actors nor the movies' tone do anything for me.
Nice comparison of the Batman action scenes with Alien. For their purpose in the film they do work. They never scream "here's a kick-ass fight scene", but I'm guessing that will come in sequels. For this particular origin tale, they're great for the first appearance of Batman to the criminal element. It will be a challenge for the filmmakers to strike a good balance in the sequels--good, creative, exciting action sequences that don't go too over the top. From an action standpoint, the Batman Begins fight scenes don't have much re-watchability, but they're great for a suspense film. The sequels will have to amp up the action now that Batman is an accepted element in this world without losing all the style of this new Batman universe. I expect to see some good, gritty fights. Something along the lines of the Jango/OBW rain battle in AOTC, only with Batman.

I agree with that. Between the broom closet and the scene where he was getting hit in the head by passing students at school, it was way too much. I hated that. It's still one of my favorite comic movies, though. Personally, I didn't like X2. The first one was much better to me.

Don't bless me yet. If you go back to those threads, I didn't agree with you either. I still think the original was one of the best origin stories out there, before BB, and I really like both films. Those things knocked Spidey 2 from being a great film to just being a good film.

Someone at another forum. Thought this real life vehicle. Would make a great looking Bat-vehicle.

After seeing Batman Begins again, and reading where they are rumored to be going with the story in the sequel I cannot wait. Nolan and Co. are nailing Batman perfectly. Absolutely amazing.
