6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Thanks Paul. Much appreciated.
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
I just didn't say which morning

the graphics for both are essentially repeats of the the outer slipcovers- minus the rating blurb. The back of the 6m$m keepcase however is different and contains the list of episodes- titles only.
The other main difference is the 6M$M slipcase is glossy, and the BW one is matte.

Cool pics, Paul. Are you planning on getting the R4 S2 sets or the R2 sets?Jeff "Waiting to see if the R4 BW S2 set from Australia really contains the 2 extra eps" W. (borrowing that "patented" sign-off from Gary O)

Thanks for the pics, Paul. I much prefer the newer slim packaging, even with their overlapping discs. It appears the Season 2 sets will also be packaged in the newer style.Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?

R4.
It's not even really important to me if the 2 extra eps are included or not- I expect the sets to be consistent, content-wise, across R2 and R4.
For me, the big deal is shipping time and net cost, and both of these things have always been better in R4.
I'll probably wait until Helena can confirm the slim packaging- that is more of a concern to me than the extra eps actually. I'm very cramped for space and these sets are wonderful in that regard.

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Where is everybody buying the Bionic Woman R4 dvd with the new slimline packaging and reduced price? I live in the US and don't buy my dvds overseas, but for BW I'll make the exception. I googled and came up with www.easydvd.com.au and www.devoteddvd.com.au. If there is another store offering them cheaper, please let me know. Thanks!"Congratulations. You're still in the running towards becoming America's Next Top Model."
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
I have always had a positive experience with Ezydvd.com.Total came to $73 (US) for the two sets including shipping. Don't be dissuaded by the price on the webpage as its in Australian currency and includes tax which doesn't apply to international sales.
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
I live in Australia so I usually buy my R4 DVDs by visiting a store (e.g. JB HiFi, Target or Big W), but when buying online from an Australian vendor, I tend buy from www.ezydvd.com.au as they are pretty reliable and usually only a few dollars more expensive than the retail stores.I bought my R4 BW and 6M$M S1 sets from JB HiFi for Aus$39.95 each a couple of weeks ago. I haven't however bought online from them, so I do not know what their service is like. I also just checked their online site and they are selling the S1 sets for Aus$47.88 (the same as ezydvd).
Hope this helps.

Thanks Paul and Helena.
Paul, can I expect any other charges? I saw something about customs charges and credit card charges for currency conversion. Does that applies to the US?

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Customs charges, no. Currency conversion charges depends on your particular credit card company. Some do this, others don't.I've ordered from Ezy DVD several times and have had no issues at all.
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Bummer, just checked EZ's site again and now the episode listings for TBW season 2 are the same as the UK release. I guess the bigfoot episodes are not going to be on there after all.Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Yep, the "Bigfoot" listing at the Au site was not correct. Oh well, at least we have an official studio release available for S2 in R2/4. If the xfer quality is as good as BW S1's, the S2 set will be very good viewing. 6M$M S2 hopefully will fare better with its S2 set than the S1 xfrs. I'd normally wait for some reviews before getting the 6M$M S2 set but that set contains the first 2-part BW "pilot" epsAs of now, there's no light at the end of the R1 tunnel for NTSC releases. Who knows....anything's possible.

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Hey Jeff, have you seen the ad someone posted on YouTube for a 6MDM DVD set. Had the same "Classic" banner that most Universal shows have here. The ad just said coming soon, and it was posted a month ago. It didnt look like the other regions i have seen on this thread. I thought it could be fake, but who knows.Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
On a slightly related note, did anyone see this: http://www.superherohype.com/news.php?id=4791I wonder if that means a change in the wind for the R1 versions?
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Hello, fellow Bionic fans. I haven't received my PAL S2 sets yet but this is a post from a "Bionic" fans forum from someone that has received them. Some quick feedback on the xfr quality, etc.-------------------------------------------------------------------------
First the good news. My Six Million Dollar Man DVD set arrived in the
post this morning. Now the not so good news. The
transfer quality is much the same as with Season One, i.e. no better
than the previous Video issue. Also 'The Bionic Woman' parts one and
two are exactly the same as they were on video, i.e. one complete
episode. There is not even a chapter break at the end of part one
(and of course no end\opening credits between the two parts)!!
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Doesn't sound promising. No word yet on the xfr quality for BW S2 but I have the S1 set of BW and it fared considerably better than the 6M$M S1 set.

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Here's an update from another Bionic Fans forum: There are some early reviews that confirm the BW R2 xfr quality being the same (very good) as the BW R2 S1 set. The early word on the 6M$M R2 set is that it fared about the same as the S1 set; not as good xfr quality as the BW sets. I don't know for certain that the R4 (Australian) sets are the same quality xfrs but they should be identical as both are official Universal overseas releases. We should be getting that confirmed within 7-10 days. The main thing is that the BW R2 S2 sets should, as the S1 set is as well, be the un-edited versions (ie, not the chopped-up SciFi/Syndicated versions). For anyone that has already received their BW R2 S2 set, check the 2nd part of the 2-part ep "Doomsday Is Tomorrow" (guest-starring Lew Ayers), and look for a scene near the end of the 2nd part ep, where "Jaime" is at the lower level of the missile complex nearing the missile launch control room. Right after she enters a door that leads to a "cat-walk" of stairs leading down into the silo, there should be a scene where "Alex" generates the illusion/sound effects of snakes hissing in an ettempt to scare Jaime into retreating from her objective. If this scene is included in this ep, it is the un-cut version as was originally aired back in '77. This should confirm that the other eps in the set are un-cut. This was the case in the BW R2 S1 set. One thing about Universal, they may be known for the R1 DVD-18 fiacso, but their track record for releasing TV/DVD's in their un-cut versions is good."Checkmate King Two Out" Jeff Willis "Combat! Hi,
Good news! Just picked up my R4 Bionic Woman and 6M$M Season two sets (for the bargain price of Australian $38.98) and can report that they are both using the new "slimline" cases (i.e. the ones that are the size of a regular DVD case but contain 6 disks).

I have opened the boxes so I could check out the cases, but haven't had a chance to watch them yet. I'll report back regarding quality etc once I have watched them - can't wait!
Helen
P.S. Both sets contain 6 single sided disks and no extras.
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
that truly is 'fist in the air, dancing banana' worthy news
thanks for the confirmation, will be getting my order off shortly.

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Yes, the Region 2 release also has the part with the "snakes" that you describe.Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Well, I finally got a free evening to watch my 6M$M set (I've had it for a while for a week now, but my Halloween Horror has dominated my evening viewing) and got a chance to spin the first disc.No extras, like I expected - unless you count the Rewind trailer for other universal TV shows, the "Pirate this movie and you help terrorists rape babies" trailer and the Dutch subtitles.
The video -
The discs look about on par on what you would expect for a 35 year old TV show: rough, but watchable. Actually, I didnt think it looked all THAT bad, but then perhaps I'm more forgiving.
Cut vs Uncut -
Again I havent seen the show for 25 years now, since I was a kid - so if there are scenes missing, I'd not be able to tell. However, there were no abrupt transitions or jarring moments that would indicate missing material. Also, the shows ran typical TV episode length for that era (as in darn near an hour each), so my gut tells me that these are probably whole and intact.
Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
I received the BW S2 R4 (Australian) set. Here’s some quick info on the set. I haven’t viewed any ep completely yet, but I checked a couple of them to verify that they’re the un-cut versions that originally aired in the 70’s.- Doomsday Is Tomorrow Pt 2: The “snake-sound” scene is in this ep as the original version. Most of the “SciFi” bootlegged versions on eBay, etc, are SciFi Channel versions of this series.
- “Assault On The Princess” (guest-starring Ed Nelson and Vito Scotti (“Romero”): There is a dialog early in the ep between Ed Nelson (“Lucky” Harrison) and Jaime that I haven’t seen since the originally-aired ep. The scene is where “Lucky” sees Jaime in the hallway of the ship and recognizes here as a stowaway on board.
- “Once A Thief” (guest-starring Elisha Cook as the thief with the pet monkey): The “intro” to the ep is intact as originally aired. I haven’t seen that intro since ’77.
They’re the “real thing” all right. There’s nothing like intact, original, studio-quality shows on DVD to make a collector smile

Xfr Quality: Of the eps that I spot-checked, the xfrs are great; the same as the BW S1 R2 set.
Packaging: Slim-cases on one-sided DVD’s (no infamous DVD-18’s!). It is packaged as 1 disc per sleeve, so there’s no having to remove disc 1 to get to disc 2, etc.
Menus: Not too impressive, about the same as the S1 R2 set, but they do have a different photo of LW from one of the eps in the set at each disc ep menu.
Something that somewhat surprised me regarding the stated region-coding: The Region Code stamp on the outside cover sleeve shows R2,4,5. Interesting. R5 is Russia, India, and most of the African continent. All I needed to see is that they’ll play on my code-free player. There is a sub-menu for country selection. The choices are English or Netherlands. Also, there is a subtitle selection for Dutch. You have to manually select the "Country" choice (but it may default to English if no selection is made after a period of idle-time at this menu level). The Dutch subtitle choice defualts to "off" if no choice is made.
The best thing, to me, is that Universal did a good job of grouping the eps on each disc. All of the multiple-part eps are on 1 disc. For example, the “Kill Oscar” trilogy is all on disc 2. “Jaime’s Shield” 2-parter is on disc 3. “Doomsday Is Tomorrow” is on disc 4, and the “Deadly Ringer” eps are on disc 5.
Disc ep guide:
Disc 1:
In this Corner, Jaime Sommers
Assualt On The Princess
Road To Nashville
Disc 2:
Kill Oscar Pt 1,2,3
Black Magic
Disc 3:
Sister Jaime
The Vega Influence
Jaime’s Shield, Pt 1,2
Disc 4:
Biofeedback
Doomsday Is Tomorrow, Pt 1,2
Disc 5:
Deadly Ringer Pt 1,2
Jaime and the King
Beyond the Call
Disc 6:
The Dejon Caper
The Night Demon
Iron Ships and Dead Men
Once a Thief
I bought the R4 set to save a little $$’s. The R2 set should be identical.
Enjoy S2 on studio-quality official release DVD’s

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Jeff:One way to test if these episodes are truly the original versions: just watch Kill Oscar, Part 2. Is that presented on the disc as a Bionic Woman episode, or an episode of The Six Million Dollar Man?
When originally aired, it went out as $6M Man. When the show was sold to syndication, the beginning/ending credits for part two were replaced with credits from surrounding episodes of BW (as, indeed, was the case on the British PAL videocassette of said trilogy a few years back).
I simply don't trust Universal Playback to get it right.

Re: 6M$M and Bionic Woman Region 2 release 09/26/05?
Andy, William,You guys are right about these not being the originally-aired versions. I was referring to "un-cut" as having all of the scenes/footage intact as was aired in primetime. Sorry if I conveyed otherwise. Just my vote, but I'm not too disappointed as long as the episodes themselves are un-cut, by that I mean, no scenes or minutes missing as is the case with the infamouns "SciFi" versions, as we refer to the syndicated edited eps.
Perhaps, if the day comes that we see an R1 release, we'll get the completely original-as-aired versions, ie 'Kill Oscar' Pt 2 as a 6M$M ep. I look at it as I can finally own a Universal set and I'm glad that Pt 2 is included in the R2/4 BW S2 sets. Otherwise, I'd have had to buy the 6M$M set as well to get the Pt 2 episode of that 2-parter. I haven't bought the 6M$M R2 S1 set because of the sub-par xfr quality of that set. I'm hearing that it's the same for the S2 6M$M set but another member here will review them for us and post when he's had time to look at the 6M$M S2 set. I'm tempted to get that set anyway as it contains the first of 2 BW "pilot" 2-parters in that season.
