Help me spend $1000CDN on www.bestbuy.ca

www.bestbuy.ca

I don't really need anything, haven't really been buying much media lately, instead, I've been renting.

I have never owned a progressive scan DVD player. What would you recommend?

I have a good Theater setup, good camera, I LOVE my iPod.

I have been dreaming about buying a mac mini or powerbook, but the best buy website doesn't seem to have the new models online that have Tiger, etc.

Anyways, I supposedly won some contest, I don't know if it's legit, as I'm still waiting for the "online code" they supposedly will be sending me, but I now have $1000 to spend on their website, and want some help spending it.

Lets have some fun!

I'm surprised there haven't been more posts on this. I received my online code today.

Is there NO dvd player recommendations out there?

I would post in the audio/video sources section for player recommendations.

At this point I'd probably look around for something like the Panasonic Drme85 with the built in HD, but I always wonder whether to wait for Tivo(or similar) to come to Canada.

Buy a nice new Harmony 880 remote.

1000 Canadian? What's that equal in USD? Like a buck fifty and a moose?

Just kidding. The USD isn't doing all that well right now anyways.

You could build an HTPC for that...

www.htpcnews.com is a good place to start.

Or, since you're happy with your current theater setup, have you thought of another? Like a bedroom setup? You can get a great secondary system up and running for that cash.

A Harmony 659 is good too, if you don't want to blow all your cash in one shot.

How about a nice 20" 1600x1200 LCD monitor with DVI inputs? Although, that would probably be around $1100...well then, a 19" 1280x1024 LCD monitor should fit the bill.

If you game on the PC and have a high-speed connection (aka Shaw Extreme), Battlefield 2 would be a good title to pick up. Maybe a Playstation 2 with an Eyetoy game or two?

You can pick up a Logitech MX1000 mouse, or the new MX518 mouse.

As for DVD players - all the ones Best Buy.ca has suck! However, if you have an extensive DiVX collection, you could get the Phillips $90 player. Not that great PQ-wise, but convenient if you are going to watch low-quality mpeg4 content.
Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him...a super-callused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

Gamesh...

Only $1000? Perhaps a new TV would be in order... you'd have to add to it sure, but come on, it's a new tv!

Of course, you could always just buy every DVD your collection is missing...

Which contest did you win? I could use $1000 worth of toys from BB!

I'd pump up my car with some kick-ass sound system:

Perhaps a DVD player in there or an earth shattering sub?

p.s. What about a GPS? http://www.bestbuy.ca/catalog/subcla...EN&catid=20123
