I imagine and hope the sequel will demonstrate his analytical and deductive skills. Just hope it does not become to CSI-ish. I am burnt out on the stuff.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

Yeah, I can see the sequel going that route. Batman Begins already kind of set it up with the Joker leaving a clue, so to speak, which, by the way, was my favorite WOW moment of last year. The entire audience sort of gasped in unison when it happened. Very cool.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

Now that I have the whole, don't compare movie's (Superman Returns) and just enjoy them both tirade over with, I'd like to just discuss BB'S for a moment.

CB was the perfect fit for the role, and I for one could care less about the intellectual aspect of Wayne's character. That's really not what the movie was about. The movie had everything I wanted, and I really like the way the story flowed. The flashback sequences where spot on, and not overdone.

There are so many incredible scenes that stand out in my mind, and many already mentioned.

-Bruce and Rachel outside of the hotel. "It's not who you are underneath, it's what you do that defines you" then another great sequence when Batman repeats the quote back to Rachel on the roof top.

-Falcone and Bruce- "You always fear what you don't understand"

-Calling in the bats to aide in the escape from the cops, falling down the staircase

-standing among the bats in the soon to be bat-cave.

I could go on and on. Not to mention the incredible casting of Caine, Freeman, Neesen, Oldman, Wilkinson, and Watanabe. It was a star studded cast, but all of them played their roles beautifully, and were not worried about screen time.

Its a movie that just keeps getting better. I don't care how long we have to wait for the next one, I just want it to continue the greatness BB has started. I'm so glad I no longer have to think of those horrible, awful, imposters of movies Burton and company made. I can live with the first one (which is still not any where near as good as Begins), but the rest make me nauseous. Its pretty bad when the ride at six flags feels just like the movie. Gag me now.

One of the very few complaints I have with the film is the casting of Holmes. Maybe just my own prejudices, but I have never thought of her as a big screen actress. I think she should have stuck with television. I just don't buy her in the role of Rachel. Very minor complaint when considering how great the movie is.

Brett and Josh I agree with your posts. Just watched this last night. The Joker card at the end of the movie still gives me goosebumps.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

Has anyone heard talk of who they might get to play the Joker this time around?

I will say that as bad as the original Batman's were, I loved Jack Nicholson as the Joker. Maybe they can figure a way to give him a cameo in the next flick. Something very brief, without detracting too much from the story.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

I've actually heard Robin Williams's name pop up to play the Joker. It was over on IGN I think.

Indeed, here's the article. I'm not so sure I like the idea of someone too famous playing the Joker, but Williams definately has the ability to pull it off.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

Oh, that could be horrible. I like Williams but I think he's completely wrong for the Joker.

Nicholson was great, but I hope they cast a relative unknown.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

Yeah, like I said, he has the talent to pull it off, but I want someone more obscure. Nicholson was a good Joker for the Burton movie, but I hope they go in a different direction for this one. Something darker, more sadistic.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

I agree,

Robin Williams is a little too big of a name to play this role, and even more than the name, too over the top. Batman Begins has a completely different feel.

I hope they don't go with Williams.

I have an actor in mind that I think would be a good candidate but I can't place him right now. I'll get back to you.

Jude Law?

I still like the Crispin Glover suggestion that someone made on here, I think.

That's somewhat interesting because I've heard rumors that Robin Williams' name was thrown around for casting of the Joker to bait Jack Nicholson into accepting the role in Burton's movie.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

Yeah, and Williams was pretty pissed too, I think, because he turned down the role of the Riddler in Batman Forever, according to some places.

Glover is unreliable at best. I don't think he has the pathos.

As an aside, we have a nine page B2 speculation thread better suited to discussion of the sequel and casting choices. Do a search...lots of info already there

I watched this the other night for about the tenth time and the movie always continues to amaze me.

The plotting is great, the acting is great, the thrills are great, it's just a great movie.

My favorite film of 2005.

Agree with your take completely. Nolan put an amazing vision on screen, and the BB sequel is (now) easily my most anticipated movie.

I was watching Mallrats the other night. And I know that Kevin Smith is a big Bats fan. Just wondering if he ever discussed what he thought of Batman Begins?

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

Re: *** Official BATMAN BEGINS Discussion Thread

The mark of a truly outstanding film is how the experience just grows over time and the way it still feels fresh and exciting despiting knowing it well.

Such is Batman Begins. When I first got the HD-DVD version back in 2006 I sampled a few scenes etc...but didn't watch the entire film.

Fast forward nearly 2 years and with the soon to be released The Dark Knight & now BB on Blu-ray, it was the perfect opportunity to revisit this.

I loved it back in 2005 and I love it even more now. Really, it's a rare film that is so deftly crafted. Nearly every moment is right on. I'm sure we can nitpick a few moments here and there but I tell you...there's not much to pick at. I am still amazed at the amount of talent on screen and how they got em all signed up! Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Rutger Haur, Christian Bale, Gary Oldman... (I'm sure I've left some out).

The screenplay is tight, the direction is equally so and the action is tops. But the story & how it's played out is what makes the experience so rich. Too often we're superficially wowed by effects and stunts but no depth and those films just don't hold up. Batman Begins has real depth and makes us believe.

It just works.

Batman Begins has grown into one of my alltime favorites and 'gulp' has replaced Superman-The Movie as my top comic book type film.
