Considering Ron Moore is in charge of the show and he wasnt a big fan of Voyager (and quit the show after a couple of episodes) I think he will be avoiding the same mistakes.

There is alot of confusion regarding the hacking at the SciFi forum.

We know that Gallatica had the Cylon Navigation system installed, but it was not networked to the main computer.

I THOUGHT what the problem was, was that the old main computer system was slow, and could not calculate the jump fast enough. The new navigation system was MUCH faster (because its newer). So, he links to it to boost processing power, but using a firewall between the connnection....etc.

That makes sense to me.
At most offices I've worked at, people would OFTEN run complex process on a networked computer simply to complete it faster. And, unfortunetly, many times we've been hit by viruses because most modern viruses can jump networks.

I don't like the techno-babble, but it DOES all seem plausible.

I just don't let stuff like this bother me. If anything it's never as implausible as CSI crap I saw Gary Sinise pull files off of a charcoal burnt to a crisp hard drive for crissakes.

Get a switch, plug a couple of computers in it. Bam, you have a network with no gateway (i.e. no connections to another network).

That is what the nav calculation network should have been like.

Seeing as how the crew member mentioned a gateway, it's just more technobabble that doesn't really make any sense.

I don't think the shooters on Kobol were Cylon. If they had been, they'd have been tirelessly chasing through the forest.

My guess - more humans, believing the (crash) landing party are Cylons.

What was supposed to have happened to Kobol to make everyone leave?

Oh yeah, *loved* the FX especially the fire zone around Galactica. Incredible.

My bet for sleeper Cylon - Baltar. He's mentally unstable because he has two Cylon personalities in him. The controlling Number Eight and the unknowing "I'm a human" version. How else could Number Eight be in his head? (Which got to the point of annoying last season, especially with the cue music every darn time! But they flipped it beautifully when Number Eight physically showed up on the bridge.)

This was my main complaint about the episode as well. Season 1 was very good about avoiding technobabble.
Great episode for Tigh; really laid bare all of his vices and weaknesses as well as all of his incredible strengths. When the hero's not around, mere mortals have to improvise, and this was a great episode for forcing his hand in such a way.

I think there is a difference between the techno babble of other Sci-Fi and what was done on Battlestar. Here they were talking about a simple computer network, a real life divice that I'm sure 99% of the shows audience has dealt with before. Its techno, but it isn't some made up babble that doesn't add up to anything more than an excuse. Its real. And I thought it worked well because the no-network situation had been previously established. And there could also be serious consequences because of it down the road, as others have pointed out.

I'm hoping for some more time on Caprica Friday night. The scenes with Starbuck and Helo are good, would like to see more of them.

I'm also hoping we'll at least get a clue about who the shooters on Kobol were.

Well as to the shooters, don't the Cylons use some kind of energy weapons. These seemed to be bullets.

I was under the impression that there were no energy weapons on the show, just bullets, missiles and nukes. As to whoever was on the planet not chasing them, Callie tells Tyrol that they're no longer being chased, which would seem to imply that they had been running a while and that whoever it was had persued them.

Why Boomer pulled the trigger at that time is another plot thread I would like some explanation for, or at least an exploration of. I hope they just don't leave that open-ended.

The impression I always got was that Boomer's test was "off the record."

I thought it was simply that Boomer knew she was a cylon, and knows she is doing bad things that she can't remember (ie bombs, etc).
Baltar knew she was a cylon, and told her to kill herself to stop her from doing bad things.

But then someone mentioned that Baltar is really a cylon, and was telling Boomer to shoot Adama.... then my head exploded.

Regardless, Boomer IS a cylon, but why did she still blow up the basestar? You would think she would have switched to "evil mode", and stopped herself. OR AT LEAST the "other" boomers would have stopped her?

I want to know why Boomer shot him at that time...when she presumably had a thousand other opportunities to do it.

I guess, really, I want to know whether someone is throwing a switch that makes her do bad things, or whether she's just a really kniving Cylon.

Not every action has a clear explanation. You can go into court and listen to someone describe how a mother watched a father beat a child to death. Everyone in their right might would think, "Surely her instincts as mother would have kicked in at some point." But, sometimes they don't.

But Boomer is a machine, not a human, right? Machines don't have "glitches," they just do what they're programmed to do. Right? Maybe the older models, but not the newer Cylons.

The Cylons are experimenting and trying to get better at what they do. #6 clearly looks down on the Boomer model. Obviously, they sometimes get attached to the people they're supposed to be making get attached to them. That wouldn't happen in a pure "robot," or even Terminator-type cyborg.

Why didn't evil mode kick in? Because her being on the ship to blow it up was unexpected, and there was no programming or trigger for it to kick in. There can't be a simple rule like "Allow no harm to come to a Cylon by action or inaction," or Cylons would blow their covers all the time -- whenever another Cylon was in danger.

These are all good questions. I asked them myself. However, I don't see anything that's a gaping plot hole.

On another note, I'm really please with Cable giving us quality original shows during summer months. Often I think of cable as just a way to get a clear picture as opposed to rabbit ears, but it's nice when there's actually content that makes it worth having.

This show rocks.

She's a Cylon, but she appears to be designed not to know it, a perfect sleeper. The thing is, when she found out, that didn't automatically overwrite her human persona. Even if she knows what she is, she's still conditioned to think of the people on Galactica and in the fleet as people she likes and to whom she has responsibilities. It's not clear what, precisely, brings the saboteur persona out.

Also, it appears that the Boomer "line" is, as a rule, more fond of human beings than (say) the Six line. The Cylons would probably call it a design flaw, but we've seen it both on Galactica and on Caprica. If the other Boomers were newly-grown, they could have been deferring to the more experienced version, or they could be in on some sort of long-range plan that said THIS Boomer is not to be interfered with, no matter what the cost. They probably think it sucks, but Cylons probably think of themselves as more expendable than humans do.

I don't need a detailed explanation of everything...just a few hints would be nice. I don't want BG to turn into the XFiles where the creators were good at coming up with cool concepts and events but not so good at fitting them into the larger story or letting the audience in on how things fit together.

If Boomer just acted at random when shooting Adama, then it's not as interesting story wise as if she's working of a grander Cylon plan.

Keep in mind that Boomer doesn't seem to remember when she commits Cylon acts. She didn't remember blowing the water tanks, but got suspicious when she "came to" and found herself dripping wet. She was also screaming "what happened" or something after she shot Adama. There's definitely something going on here, but it doesn't seem that much of a reach that she is designed to not know she is a Cylon, while still under some, but not absolute, control of her creators.

Edit - other examples of the less than absolute control and lack of memory are: her suspicions that she was a cylon and request that she be tested and expression of relief when Baltar told her she was not a cylon; fighting with herself to disclose that she found a planet with water.
