Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Enjoyed the 2nd Scrapped Princess disc last night. We start to find out that there are a few different players in the world and that the prophecy is not cut and dried. The introduction of the peacemakers was interesting.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I just started up Kino's Journey last night. So far, fairly interesting and quite thoughtful.

Question, tho. I seemed to get an "interlaced" effect with some horizontal banding. Is this the way it is supposed to look, or is it my player?

Not much going on with me. I finished up rewatching season one of GITS:SAC, and am through disk five of 2nd Gig.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Hi everyone!

Been a while since I posted in here, and been a while since I've bought or watched any anime. That said, I still need to complete buying Gankutsuou and Basilisk.

I have noticed a series that looks interesting. Anyone have thoughts on Le Chevalier d'Eon?

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

From what I saw of it, it's unusual. Starts out as a straightforward murder mystery, and by the end of the first episode you've got zombies, alchemists, secret societies, intrigues, and the decadence of the Bourbons.

Intriguing, but I didn't see enough of it to know if it goes anywhere.

I have the first two DVDs so far, and I find it quite interesting. Based on a historical figure who lived half of his life as a woman, it uses that tidbit to put an occult storyline in the middle of pre-revolution France. I'm looking forward to see where things are going.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Sorry to post this here, as I know there's a reference to this show in this thread somewhere, but I really don't want to look through 79 pages to find it!

The Lupin TV series discs from Geneon - which series are they? There are 79 episodes across 15 DVDs - is it the 2nd series? Do they have any plans to release the rest?

Ali:

The Geneon Lupin III disks appear to be a partial release of the second series. Geneon's official site hasn't been updated in some time (it still says Pioneer), and it only has information on the first 10 disks, so I would guess that Lupin III wasn't a money maker for them.

I finished off Kino's Journey. A nice little show with a bunch of standalone episodes which ask some good questions about some of the stuff we do, or wished we'd do, in society. I'm looking forward to reading the first book.

I've watched a few disks in the last couple of days. I finished off Mahoromatic (along with the Summer Special), blew through rewatching Hellsing, and started on Vandread.

I'm a couple of discs away from the end of Scrapped Princess and although still enjoyable it lost a lot of it's momentum with the

amnesia that Pacifica now has. It might have been interesting for an episode or 2 but it really just drags on.

Looks like some movie theatres have bought a package they call the "Anime Bento Box" in the coming month. Re-issue of Cagliostro? I'm there.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I finished up Cowboy Bebop (including the movie), and started rewatching Martian Successor Nadesico. One thing I noticed (other than that the art quality goes down somewhat on my 61") is that the subtitles on the first disk weren't very good. That is, they don't look very good when viewed on a large screen. The subs were much better on volume two.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I saw a listing for a Season 1 box set for Full Metal Alchemist but I couldn't find too many details on it. Anyone know what all is contained in the set? Is it just a compilation of the previously released discs?

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

In case no one has seen the latest news over at AoD, Geneon USA is closing up shop on their DVD distribution and sales. Titles scheduled for 11/05 or earlier will be released; everything after 11/11 has been canceled. This makes me quite sad. Pioneer/Geneon is my largest distributor of shows (67 series and movies, or about 29% of my total). Their products always seem to be technically quite good. I have a feeling that Ergo Proxy will likely be the last new series from them that I complete.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

I think anime fans being who they are (generally technically inclined people) they all know that there are much cheaper ways of acquiring the shows they want to watch, even dvd quality. Notice I am neither endorsing nor condemning this method, just pointing out that these companies have such a small target market I am not too suprised by this turn of events.

On a different lighter note it has been a long long time since i posted here.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

LOL.... this thread so died without me.

I just picked up my first series in a while... Fighting Spirit off of Right Stuf, as I A) knew it was going out of print forever due to Geneon kicking the bucket and B) they had MOST of the discs for $6.99. I say MOST because I had to buy Volume 11 and the Special separately, which was $44 as opposed to $97 for the rest of the discs, heh.

Other than that I recently picked up the second set of Gantz but really most of my buying dollars have shifted to Blu Ray and HD-DVDs on the video side of things.

I've also gone from maybe 200 anime discs to about 100... as the cutesy stuff that I was into a couple years ago no longer appeals to me. Anyone pick up the new Neon Genesis Evangelion tin? Any improvements there? I have been meaning to pick up the Platinum set FOREVER (after selling off my original set) and haven't gotten around to it.

Oh well, just checking in! *runs away to other forum*

I know what you mean about it being quiet in here. For myself, I've been too busy with the Luna Project and my desultory attempts to graduate university before I die of old age to watch too much anime… by which I mean that I am still working on the stuff I bought in June.

Looks like all I have left are the 5 Slayers OVAs and a couple hours of Bakuretsu Hunter.

One of the nice things about buying LDs is being insulated from the glut of cruddy shows. I don't even have to bother about Happy Shiny Candy-Color Alien Bounty-Hunter Mii-Chan or whatever.

Wow, this is sad. I'm away from the board for a few weeks, and only 4 new posts in this thread?

I actually just finished off "Anime Runner Kuromi 2" last night. More of the same, really, but it is pure Daichi goodness. I'm also working my way through Scrapped Princess right now and finished disc 5 of D'eon.

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Hmm, it's been a LONG while since I've been in this thread --- or the HTF for that matter!

I'm enjoying some anime on Blu-ray disc right now...but so far the PQ has been hit and miss (Tekkonkinkreet is a big hit for PQ though).
Mahatma Gandhi, as you know, walked barefoot most of the time, which produced an impressive set of calluses on his feet. He also ate very little, which made him rather frail and with his odd diet, he suffered from bad breath. This made him...a super-callused fragile mystic hexed by halitosis.

Gamesh...

Re: HTF Anime Discussion Part VIII

Ducked into a Half Price Books yesterday, whille I was out doing something else, and encountered a box-set of anime LDs. As per usual procedure, I bought it.

The box itself is for Those Who Hunt Elves II volumes 1-6. The actual contents are volumes 1 and 2 of Those Who Hunt Elves (episodes 1-4), and volume 1 of Those Who Hunt Elves II (episodes 1 & 2). I get the impression that this is something of a "gag" series, and I won't lose much by not seeing the whole thing.
