"(I intended to take pictures yesterday, but the wind was blowing too hard, the sun was in my eyes, and my dog ate my homework. )"

ROFL,its a good thing dogs eat homework and not speakers .

The color I looked at Dean was the black with oak trim to match my MMG's.

Hey guys....I have a Pair of MC1's and a CC3 for sale...one of you guys need these speakers. The are in mint condition and have only been used about 8 months!!

They are all black, and just sitting in a closet!!

$1400 for all 3 speakers! They cost me $1740 last year!!

And I have gone to all the trouble of getting them broke in for you!!

BTW, I got a Marsh P2000T hybrid tube preamp to go along with my Earthquake amp and MG1.6's.....SWEET!! A big improvement over the Outlaw 950 for 2 channel music only!!

There is nothing quite like a tube amp through maggies for 2 channel audio.

Quote:
I spoke to Chad at Ascendant Audio and ordered the Av. 18s. It's going to be about a week wait because the baskets are being upgraded to twelve spoke instead of the six spoke pictured on AA's website. I'm worse than a kid at Xmas.

Damn that looks some nice rims instead of a sub.

It's funny that you should mention that. I didn't have a good mental image of the size of the drivers that I ordered, so I measured the wheels on my car - 18.5" O.D., the exact same O.D. as the drivers. Oh crap, what have I done.

If you ever have a flat tire Dean, you can always mount one of your subs as a spare tire.Hey,as a thought ,you could call it "rolling bass"

I just found this thread on hotrod planars someone built and thought some of you might be interested.

I'm waiting on the poster to furnish more details of his build.

That got me thinking. What if you bought SVS PB10's and then attached the MMGs to the top of the subs. This would give you the low end for them that is needed.

Let's see. Four MMG Ws with an MMG C and Four PB10s to go with them.

Wow Parker, talk about a speaker that would 1,give you full range, and 2,give you a enveloping sound in an HT.If I wasnt so afraid of drilling holes in speaker cabinets,I'd try it.

Of course, you'd say a quick good bye to any return policy on said speakers.

Alan:

I wonder if you could make some sort of bracket that the MMG Ws could be bolted to and have that bracket set on top of the PB10s.

It would be interesting to see if you could make some sort of bracket that the MMG Ws set on that could swivel left or right in relationship to the sub. That way the maggies could be "toed in" to your setting position.

I think I'm going to pick up one of these PB10s.....I've been resigned to just waiting until I can get an Ultra, but I may just grab the newbie and see what it can do with the Maggies. I used to have a 25(22)-31 PCi in a space that was bigger than what I have now, and I don't think I ever came close to hitting its limits. If the PB-10 isn't enough, I'll just sell it to my bro and go with the Ultra.

Hmm,
Maggie does make and sale a temp mounting system for the MMGW's.I bought it when I placed my order from Maggie.1 because I figured I might need it(I didnt),2 because I'm an idiot .

Although I'm in the middle of my IB project(wife really loves me right now ).I do have an old dbx sub hanging around that I couldnt hurt drilling holes in it just to see if a bracket like you sugguested is possible.

P.S.Just remembered, since we are Maggie and Outlaw fans.Anyone thinking of upgrading to the new Outlaw 990 prepro? I am,basically for reason number 2 in the 1st paragraph of my post.

You too, huh? I made my baffle and cut out the holes and recesses for the drivers yesterday, and when she saw the size of the holes her jaw hit the floor.

There's no need to drill any holes in the Maggies. Get some hardwood a little longer and thicker than the Maggies - oak, birch, whatever floats your boat - router a groove a little wider than the thickness of the speaker in each one to make a frame to slide the speaker down into, then mount the frame to the sub.

Yes, I'm following all the 990 threads in hopes of finding out what the specs are. If the rumors are true that it's basically a rebadged SN P-965, I may buy one. I don't care about the balanced outputs or video switching, my only concerns are SQ and ease of use.

Z:

I have heard the PB-10 and it is a killer of a sub for the money. I think you will be really happy with it and your maggies.

I knew that Outlaw was coming out with a new pre/pro but not sure when or what the model number was. I look forward to seeing and hearing what they come up with.

At first I didn't even consider it, but after hearing what Ed, John Garcia, and now you, have all said about it, I at least want to give it a go. I just have this feeling that the 10" driver will mate well with the Maggies. I wish I could get in on the IB bandwagon, but I just don't have the living situation for that. But I certainly don't have any problem putting a few more bucks in the pockets of Tom and Ron.

I'll definitely be interested to see what you guys do with regard to the new Outlaw 990. I haven't even gotten full use out of my 950, so that's a 'back burner' upgrade for me.....though that new MONSTER of an amp they are coming out with is pretty intriguing

By the way, have you guys noticed how many more folks on the forum are mentioning the MMGs? I wonder if our little club here can take some credit for a small part of that.....you have to admit, we are some pretty satisfied Magnepan owners. Heck, number 6 doesn't even have them in his system right now and he's in love with them lol.

Z, I sold my PB12-Plus/2 last week and I've been using my old CS 20-39 Plus (tuned to 16 Hz) as a temporary fill-in until my IB drivers get here. It may be my imagination since I couldn't do a side by side comparison, but my CS seems to blend with the Maggies better than the PB.

Z, I have no idea why it sounds differently. I'm a biologist, not a subwooferist.

I have some pics of my progress on the IB. How do I upload them from my hard drive to insert them in a post?

You know. I have been thinking about an idea for a speaker for a long time.

One thing I have always liked is a horn speaker. The other is of course a bipole. I have often thought it would be an interesting experiment to set up a bipole MTM with horns instead of the tweater. I wonder what type of sound you could get out of those.

I mean take the efficiency of a horn, put it in a D'Appolito Array with midbass drivers, in a bipole layout.

In other words just like a Def Tech BP20 or 30 swapping out the tweeter with a horn. A synergy of Def Tech with a good JBL or Altec horn. Interesting eh?

The first 'real' speakers I bought were a D'appolito array. They were made by a guy named Scott Spencer. He lived in Upstate NY (where I grew up) and he was starting his own company called Sterling Acoustics. I believe he used to work at Merlin, but don't quote me on that. I don't really know why, but I really prefer that driver arrangement in a box speaker. I guess I've never really thought about it too much as to what the sonic differences are between that arrangement and some others.

Do you have thoughts of getting involved with speaker design, 6?

Nah! Just an idea. I mean. You have the planars that give you this wide field, then you have the Def Techs that give you wide field with traditional speakers. Then you have the horn types like JBL. I just have never seen a dipole set up in a D'appolito array with the tweeter/mid being covered by an efficient horn. I think it would make for yet another choice in a speaker that no one else is doing...yet.

6 and a half to one dozen or another.
