We know what you mean. Seems like someone would need one of those crystal balls from the Wizard of Oz to predict what's getting released in split-season or full-season format. Some of the classic shows are seeing complete series set releases while others get the s/s treatment.

Hey, I'm originally from Ft. Worth. Moved to Hollywood 20 years ago last February and never looked back.

Nowadays I can't get enough of 1960s TV because most of what's on is just a lot of noise to me.

AMEN to THAT, brother!

My favorite stuff on DVD is all from the sixties! From Lost in Space and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea to Classic Star Trek and The Invaders. Raymond Burr straddles the decade with Perry Mason and Ironside.

And this week, I made my first totally "Blind Buy" ever with The Rat Patrol and have totally enjoyed the first six episodes so far!

Add to this the fact that I have not seen The Invaders since childhood viewings of the original ABC broadcasts - -and I'm extremely pleased to say that it's help up very well! Beyond my expectations, actually!

Every show you mentioned I have on DVD, except RAT PATROL. Might have to take the plunge.

Is music from THE INVADERS available?

Not specifically, but close. As you probably know, THE INVADERS theme music and score was ported over from an unsold pilot called THE UNKNOWN which was done by the OUTER LIMITS people. THE UNKNOWN pilot film was altered for release as the final episode of season one of THE OUTER LIMITS, titled "The Forms Of Things Unknown."

The score for that pilot show has been released by La-La Land Records, the same outfit that did the OUTER LIMITS soundtrach that we discussed in the FUGITIVE thread.

Yes, same place, La-La Land Records. OUTER LIMITS is in the "Sci-Fi" section.

Harry-N, would you check the link on that OUTER LIMITS set...I get to the Sci Fi page and click on the set and I get an out of order box, but all the other sets seem to work when I click on them.

Just for anyone else who's interested:

THE OUTER LIMITS Soundtrack at La-La Land Records

NAME FOR EVIL/THE UNKNOWN (Invaders) Soundtrack at La-La Land Records

The link on their Sci-Fi page is spelled wrong leading to a dead link. They accidentally put an extra "e" at the end of Outer Limites in the URL. The links above should work.

Re: The Invaders

The second season is up for pre-order at Australian online stores, release date 31st of July. It is shown as being seven discs, so that is enough for the whole second season.

No sign of it here in the UK as yet.

Re: The Invaders

I have one other little thing that bothers me about THE INVADERS. It's minor (especially in comparison to what was done to THE FUGITIVE!), but it bugs me.

It's regarding the menus. When you want to watch an episode, you have to wait through the menus. I'm used to that - it's an annoyance of the DVD menu structure, and the more sophisticated they make the menus, the more time it takes.

The problem here is the inflated volume of the sound, particularly as the menu starts. They begin "with the landing of a craft from another galaxy" and the incessant whine is almost too much to take. The exciting theme music begins at a loud volume and then is audibly turned down as it plays under the menu choices.

Couldn't they have leveled out the volume a little bit so that it wasn't so annoying?

Other than that (and the other minor nits I've picked) this is a pretty solid release all the way around.

Re: The Invaders

I blind bought this - along with Kolchak: The Night Stalker I had read that this was one of the major influences on one of my all-time favorite shows - The X-Files. I watched the first two episodes this weekend and I'm enjoying it so far. The pilot was particularly strong; "The Experiment" was a little weaker, though I liked Roddy McDowell as the scientist's son under alien control. I'm also working through Season 1 of Mannix so it may be another day or two before I get back to this set, but it was definitely a good pick-up!

Re: The Invaders and Other Sixties TV

Hey, Joe. Glad you like Rat Patrol. You will find that the 1960's in general had the best TV series shows of all time. There were a ton of great shows! Many of them still not on dvd!

Although there are quite a few '60s shows I like, I don't agree with the above statement (and I'm sure most people here know that this is simply your opinion, not a statement of fact).

Perhaps a better way to have said things would've been "you MIGHT find that the 1960s had SOME OF the best..." less inflammatory.

Re: The Invaders

I'm halfway through Season 1 of The Invaders and it just keeps getting better and better. The guest stars are outstanding, the plots and characters are suspenseful and mysterious, the music is eerie. I can't believe that I have made it to age 39 without seeing this show until now. What a treat!

Regarding the best shows of all time, every decade has had its share of great shows, in my opinion. The 60s gave us The Invaders, Star Trek, Get Smart, Andy Griffith and others. The 70s gave us Bob Newhart, Rockford, MTM, All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Hawaii Five-0 and too many others to count. The 80s gave us Wiseguy, Magnum PI, Family Ties, Cheers, Hill Street Blues and other classics. The 90s gave us Seinfeld, Friends, Larry Sanders, a full decade of Simpsons, Twin Peaks, and this decade so far has given us Lost, The Sopranos, The Office, 30 Rock, Arrested Development and more. I love 'em all regardless of when they were made!

THE GOLDEN AGE OF TELEVISION!!!!!

Generally I tend personally to like the early television shows of the 1950s and 1960s the best with my interest pretty much waning after that.

Frankly I think that THE INVADERS got off to a strong start from the very outset and each episode that I have seen (the first 10) has its own special fascination and estimable merit to me.

There is still so much territory yet to cover if only other long neglected but once (immensely) popular tv favourites like SCIENCE FICTION THEATRE, MEN INTO SPACE, ONE STEP BEYOND, ROALD DAHL'S WAY OUT!, BORIS KARLOFF'S THRILLER, THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK HOUR could similiarly be successfully launched in quality DVD releases.

Jeff T.

THE INVADERS starring Roy Thinnes belongs in a DVD Collection.

Let them land!

Think I'll try to be patient and wait. I'd rather have an NTSC version that doesn't play 4% fast.

The fact that season 2 has already been greenlit for release (though Down Under) is a good sign, to me, that it's selling strong enough. It's also perhaps a good indicator that season 2 will be (hopefully) sold all in one package and not split-up when it gets to America.

Re: The Invaders

It depends on local sales.

It's interesting to note that whilst Season One was released in the UK ahead of everywhere, there is no sign of Season Two here.

The same could happen in region-1.

Also, it's quite possible to have a rights issue holdup. The studios certainly have no qualms about partial releases: a first season release does not indicate any committment at all to the following ones.

Re: The Invaders

Nowadays, when I get a good transfer, unaltered, in my hands, of any show I love, I count myself lucky.

Can anyone tell me if the commentary on disc three gives away any spoilers that might ruin the rest of the series for me? The intros are awful about spoiling the plots, is the reason I ask.
