When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I was really looking forward to seeing the Vincent Price episode but I can wait, I'm not giving up hope on this show. I am a bit worried about the Simpsons but I can't see FOX abandoning that show, they've done a great job on the Box Sets so far and the show is too popular to just be dropped.

But I do concur that if VOYAGE in particular did indeed ultimately perform poorly this likely had to do with the actual product not the tv premium itself.

As I said there were manufacture defects in both the first (1964-65) and second season (1965-66) VOYAGE DVD sets that I purchased...this in itself is enough to discourage consumer confidence and interest!

While I am still confident that a fourth season (1967-68) DVD release of VOYAGE is imminent should the worst speculative scenario happen (as some skeptics feel) than it can always be handled by one of the independent DVD distribution companies whom I am sure would love to get access to this (potentially valuable) Irwin Allen 1960s SF tv series for DVD release.

Right now I believe that Fox is carefully reevaluating the situation and attempting to come up with a more satisfactorily means to turn this product into a viable commercial success.

THE BIG VALLEY isn't a very good example to draw upon either because there are some DVD tv properties no matter how well produced that just won't sell nowadays no how. A lot of people especially the younger aged demographic just don't dig tv westerns any more.

What was the problem with the HAVE GUN WILL TRAVEL seasons one to three DVD collections? Are you going to blame faulty manufacturing or poor packaging design?!

For the record I bought all the sets released from both these shows...but I am likely among the minority who did!

More Simpsons vs. Voyage. (They both have a "Nelson" -- "Ha-Ha!")

I'm not at all worried about The Simpsons, but just brought it up as an example of what I think might be a general slowdown of product releases -- certainly at FOX, if not elsewhere as well. ...Still, it would be nice to hear from someone on the "inside"!

If there's any worry to be had over The Simpsons, it's that it might OUTLAST the DVD as a delivery format! But it does make me fear less over the lack of any Voyage Season 4 announcements... at least for now!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

For those people who don't think Fox has abandoned this show, let's take a look at the shows from pre-1985 that Fox has released:

White Shadow - abandoned
Mary Tyler Moore Show - abandoned
Bob Newhart Show - abandoned
Big Valley - abandoned
Lost in Space - completed
St. Elsewhere - abandoned
WKRP in Cincinnati - abandoned
Hill Street Blues - abandoned
MASH - completed

I don't count Land of the Giants since that was done in one big set and I don't count Time Tunnel because its a one-season show. So, basically, they have finished 2 series, Lost in Space and MASH, and abandoned every other one they started that's at least 25 years old. Now, can the optimists tell me again what they base their hope upon?

Perhaps you SHOULD count both LAND OF THE GIANTS and TIME TUNNEL, since they both come from the Irwin Allen stable, making three out of four of his series complete on DVD. VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA certainly has more in common with those shows than it does MARY TYLER MOORE or ST. ELSEWHERE.

VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA also has one other thing going for it - it's a science-fiction adventure series. Series and movies in that genre often have quite a cult following of fans who've been around for years. Even younger fans of science fiction might be interested in viewing what was around before their time.

Shows like ST. ELSEWHERE don't have cult followings like that. Yes, it was a great medical drama series. No-one was a bigger fan of ST. ELSEWHERE than I was, and yet I'm not all that excited about ever seeing it again. Maybe an episode or two, but not whole seasons' worth of episodes.

I watched ST. ELSEWHERE faithfully as it aired on NBC, waiting eagerly for each Wednesday night at 10 PM to see what they'd come up with next. I even held out hope that they'd redeem the Peter White character, but they didn't. He turned out evil through and through.

But VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA holds a different viewing experience. I wasn't that big of a fan originally, and yet these DVDs hold great fascination for me. I watched it on Sunday nights when I could, but the early time slot often made it difficult as we prepared to get ready for a new school week.

I think that with the double pedigree of being both a science-fiction property and an Irwin Allen series, that eventually Season Four will be released to complete the series. Will it take a year or two or more? Possibly. Does that make me happy? No. Will I wait it out patiently? Absolutely.

I'm firmly in the camp that sees this current period as a lull to wait out both the glut of product on the market and the shaky economy.

And it also serves to keep this very long thread alive for yet more days, weeks, and months to come.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I have used the email from James and also another email for Fox entertainment and at their website they have an 800 number you can call.

Someone mentioned it would be nice if Fox could read the thread. I do not know how this would be done but certainly wish they could. City Beneath the Sea is worth viewing if you have not seen it before. The insider concept certainly would be good. I thought I had read earlyer of someone who had worked with Fox on another series.

I also should think if everyone emailed the address given to James would be great. I just wish there was someone from Fox that would give the thumbs up or down for Voyage release this year. I still want to hope and maybe some insider will come forward with info.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Regarding Season Four:

About a month ago I contacted Fox Home Entertainment by phone at this number: 1-888-223-2FOX and I asked them for info on season four. They said they had no information. I thought that was strange since they are connected to 20th Century Fox and ought to know. I asked them if they could redirect my call to someone within 20th Century Fox that would know and could provide me with more specific info. They claimed that they (Fox Home Entertainment) would know when there was new information. I still thought this was odd.

How can a company that is making the decision not know anything about the decision.

I then went to davidhedison.com and sent an E-Mail to them about my questions. I asked them to contact David Hedison and find out from him if he could find out what the score is. They replied back to me the same day and said they asked him and he didn't know. Then I asked them if David Hedison had an inside contact within 20th Century Fox that I could contact regarding our question. They replied back and said he did not. Actually I asked that question honestly figuring that since he had been gone from there for over 40 years any contacts he might have had probably have retired.

Well thats it. I still find it odd that nobody knows anything and I don't mean you folks -- I mean those who should know at 20th Century Fox.

If they haven't put out a press release, the folks answering the customer line won't confide any fresh information to someone calling. Maybe if you went out drinking with the guys in Fox's TV DVD division you can pry out information, but otherwise they'll just give you the company line cause nobody wants to be the person who leaked out information that wasn't approved from above. That's what gets you fired from the phone bank.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

It might have been better to ask if David Hedison had been asked for permission/paid royalties for the Season Four episodes, or for any interviews etc that pertained to season four.

If he had, then that would be some evidence that at least some preparation had been made.

Here in the UK, our censoring body (called the BBFC) that awards age-certificates for all DVD releases has a website that shows everything that has been granted a clearance, what certificate was awarded, and when the material was submitted for inspection.

As TV shows (unlike films) do not require a certificate for broadcast, but do require one for release onto "home video" (be that VHS, DVD, whatever), it is usually possible to search their site for things you're interested in. A recent submission for a TV episode (and each episode requires clearance, so they appear under episode titles if they have them; if not, under the main title and episode number) indicates that a release is likely, because certification costs money!

It was possible to verify by this means, for example, the long-rumoured release of The Invaders here in the UK - because the episodes starting appearing on the BBFC website with recent certificates awarded to Paramount.

Unlike the US system of the MPAA, BBFC certification is mandatory - nothing can be released without one.

I see that the Voyage sets do have a rating (a barely visible logo on the back!), but as your system is voluntary, I guess we can't use this method for your releases. Indeed, I did some searches and NO TV episodes appeared at all (I tried ones from Star Trek, Voyage, etc etc). Pity!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I fear that if July comes and Fox has not yet announced a release for Voyage as some suggest a october release that the show is off their radar. I also called the Fox number and got the same results and emailed them not at foxdrop@4icc.com.

I would suggest anyone wanting season four call the phone number in the above and use the Foxdrop email maybe that will help. Fox has another email on their web site but I cannot seem to find it. The response from them took a few weeks but said the same thing they said to me on the phone. Fox drop has never emailed me though I did send 2 emails to them.

Perhaps if all fans keep asking by phone of email it might change their minds if they have ruled out the series. Star Trek when if first aired on NBC was cancled after season 2 and fans writing NBC got the Network to change their minds and renewed the show for one more year.

So Fans can change the fate of a show if there are enough of them.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Incidentally, rumours (on TVShowsOnDVD) are that The Simpsons will be in it;s traditional August slot this year, and that the December release for last year wasn't really cancelled; just displaced by the movie DVD release.

So any comfort derived from the thought that Fox are delaying other DVD releases just went "cablooey!"

It's just Voyage.

I'm pretty sure they've dropped the show.

It;s a darn shame. One damn season short out of four IA shows, and the one I want most. I'm cursed never to see this. The Fox channel here ran the show a couple of years back (and the other IA ones too). It repeated S1 and S2 about six times. They told me via email they were going to run S3 and S4. They never did. You guessed it: all the others got complete runs too.

I spoke to Fox and I got 1 email response from another email from their web site. They acted like they never heard of the series. The email had the same tone and stated not final season that no more seasons would be forth coming. Which gave me the sense they knew nothing of this show and it was a standard brush off. I clearly told them final season 4 and no more sesons was their word.

Fox will probably release season 4 sooner or later, but I think they have other things on their minds in the TV on DVD releases. Maybe they got some extra special extras planned given the lack of news (who knows?!). Soone ror later, I might have to awsk Fox Home Entertainment myself on when season 4 is planned.

STOP PROCRASTINATING YOU VOYAGE FANS!!!!!

It is admirable to see so much dedicated fan interest in a fourth season (1967-68) DVD release of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA and you all certainly deserve to be commended on this.

With this series having been marketed in both the U.S. and Canada in addition to all the international retail sales it is absolutely incomprehensible that this specific Irwin Allen 1960s SF tv classic didn't perform satisfactorily.

Somewhere along the line there has to be some faulty bookkeeping involved!

More likely this (temporary) moratorium must have something to do with 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment reassessing its entire tv series output in general attempting to recoup some of its losses. Surely the company is still recovering from the severe beating it likely took with its ill-advised and over ambitious limited edition DVD release of LAND OF THE GIANTS.

Contacting Fox is helpful but just in case the sales of the latter volumes of VOYAGE did not meet with expectations at this late stage the only real influencial solution is for those who have missed out on any previous sets to start purchasing them instanta.

What possible sense is it for someone to request a DVD release of the fourth season when there are prior VOYAGE sets still outstanding?!

There can be 100 VOYAGE fans contacting Fox en masse but the company can always cite the poor sales statistics (assuming this is indeed the problem). It is much more constructively productive for that selfsame 100 VOYAGE fans to go out and starting buying the first three seasons that are currently available.

Regardless of what efforts VOYAGE fans resort to from the sound of things it is definitely going to be a wait...but with just one final season left the chances are (reasonably) positive that there will be completion!

Maybe the retail sales of THE INVADERS - THE FIRST SEASON 5-disc set will help out on this and influence Fox to move ahead much sooner!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

I was in my local Best Buy Sunday no Voyage left on shelves in fact that had prior releases before christmas then down to the last release and around February all were gone. The odd thing was they had new Land of The Giants boxs quite a bit smaller then the orginal release and they had several on the shelves. So then I got hopeful again because if Fox went to the trouble to repackage Giants maybe Voyage would come out with season 4. I used to think it was because they were going to included City Beneath the Sea until I learned it was a Warner property not Fox so it will never see the light of day. Unless Fox made some deal which I know is highly unlikely. I have 3 episodes from syndication and Scfi channel and the same episodes from Scfi channel. The shows date back to 1988 so the cuts were different. I still hope but why the new Giants packaging and not season 4 of Voyage with a deal to restore city beneath the sea from Warners. It is a perfect fit to end the series as they included all the Time Tunnel movies which I know were Fox. The Invaders I hope will help getting that show helps some but I still hope for Voyage. For me I am so glad I found this thread and all the information shared. It helps to know you are not the only fan out there.

It seems to have undergone a remake. However, this (as one might expect, from Fox) is all gloss and no substance. The "TV Shows" section, for example (after a download that is annoying even on broadband) , apparently indicates that Fox have about eight shows out on DVD.

And all references to ANY of the Irwin Allen shows has been removed. As have, astoundingly, The Simpsons (except the movie) and Buffy.

In fact, it probably does about the worst job of advertising a studio's DVD catalogue I have ever seen.

Delightfuly, Fox Store manages to crash Firefox, but all the titles are there, if you use IE to navigate.

I was in my local Best Buy they had Voyage 5 boxs of volume 2 season 3 on the rack when last week none could be had. The 34.99 price was on it. No tag to indicate a sale. I asked the clerk to scan one sure enough 14.99. The whole thing makes me very nervous it almost looks like Voyage did not sell and the Best Buy chain is dumping them for an attractive price. I hope this is not true and my theory is all wet. The fact they had none on the rack and now 5 but only last release it seems suspicious to me. And the 14.99 price is astounding. Perhaps each region spread their releases through out their stores.

Disappointing to hear that there's no information, but I'm not surprised. I'll hold out hope that maybe we'll get s4, but I won't hold my breath.

I'm thrilled that we got at least three seasons. Maybe I need to take my old VHS tapes and burn s4 to DVD-Rs just in case. Even if they're not complete and not perfect.

BRING A SATISFACTORY WRAP TO THE 'FINAL' SEASON!!!!!

Online word has it that the executive (Peter Staddon) who was specifically in charge of the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA tv series multi volume DVD sets (and personally supported them) is no longer with 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment and this may well have some (considerable) bearing on the abrupt halt to a completion of the remaining fourth season...in addition to (possible) less than satisfactory sales of the third season two volume sets!

As I previously suggested if Fox Home Entertainment should indeed prove to be no longer interested in continuing on with VOYAGE then possibly this tv property can be licensed out to one of the better independents and final completion can be achieved in that manner...if not another much improved upon release of the entire series from start to finish!

Just remember the adage when the going gets tough the tough (really) gets going!
