When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Well, in the meantime, Jeff T asked for the original Neilsen ratings of the first 13 episodes from year 4. Here they are (a 16 rating and over is considered survivable, as is anything above a 26 share):

Thank you Nick for the much appreciated ratings for the entire fourth season (1967-68) of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

After I made my message posting pertaining to the tv audience baseline I (belatedly) realized that it was a 16 but still "The Terrible Leprechaun" (undeservedly) placed fairly well if not entirely passable in the ratings.

On simple observation of the fascinating ratings provided by Nick it is apparent that VOYAGE got off to a slow start in its final year and this is understandable as I have previously often said that "Fires of Death" (17/09/1967) is indistinguishable from the third season (1966-67) episodes and I am sure that many viewers just dismissed it as just another Summer repeat (which usually don't garner too high of ratings anyway).

Compounding the problem and further confusing the situation is that there was a preemption of regular programming the following week on Sunday, September 24, 1967.

So that by the time the established VOYAGE audience did finally seriously dig-in and watch the show the episodes that were viewed weren't necessarily the best produced resulting in a lingering poor general first impression of VOYAGE's new season.

I guess at this late date in the year it is now perfectly reasonable to express concern whether an impending DVD of the remaining fourth season VOYAGE episodes can be expected sometime in early 2010.

Very likely 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment has adopted the decisive marketing strategem of spreading the final VOYAGE two volume fourth season sets (at least) a good year apart.

But the issue of the promised different version of the unaired VOYAGE colour pilot "Eleven Days to Zero" (14/09/1964) is still unresolved and there has surely been sufficient time to arrive at a satisfactory resolution on it.

Are we going to get this previously unreleased pilot or not?!

Um.. Why? 

At the time of this post, TVShowsOnDVD.com lists exactly THREE releases for January, 2010 and ONE for February, 2010 -- and nothing for March and beyond! 

I want it just as much as everyone else here... but please tell me why we need to be concerned for early 2010 on September 17, 2009. 

Because you don't wait until the last possible moment to notify people of an impending DVD release as important as the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA tv series...certainly one of the few successful tv shows that has been marketed by 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment in recent memory!

This is probably one of the reasons the final season volume two of VOYAGE has been waylayed so long because of the abject failure of other tv properties that Fox Home Entertainment has attempted to market.

It now becomes a matter of both respect and acknowledgement of this.

Previously released DVD sets of THE INVADERS were announced months in advance of their actual release dates and both seasons were an unqualified success on both AMAZON.COM (U.S.) and AMAZON.CA (Canada) ranking well within the top 100 sales rank mark very likely because of this.

You have confirmed what I have said in that impending 2010 DVD releases are now finally being made known.  These major DVD release companies do have some immediate plans for the new year don't they?!

There is still time but it is getting pretty close to the March 2010 deadline sooner than you (obviously) realize.  And I for one am a forward looking individual who always maps things out well in advance seizing opportunities well ahead of others.  That's how I have made a success of my life!

And SF entertainment is for forward looking intellects.  VOYAGE, THE OUTER LIMITS, THE TIME TUNNEL, THE INVADERS, STAR TREK were all forty years ahead of their own time as people in the 21st Century are still watching, talking about (somewhere online) and very interested in these SF premised shows.

"The Terrible Leprechaun" will NEVER look that good to me!  I probably won't bother to even watch it.

But we are now looking at a specific date deadline of late March 2010 (a year since the last VOYAGE DVD release) and 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment might just have to be "pushed" into it through insistent persuasion on the part of the fans.

Fox rarely, if ever, announce their TV releases more than four calendar months ahead. They have been fairly consistent with that for all of the Voyage releases so far. In fact, the announcement for the last one was actually a little earlier than usual: it was announced at the end of November for release at the end of the following March.

When we were having releases ever four months, the next one would usually be announced a few weeks after a release, so about 3 1/2 months notice.

I had hoped that this year's release would restore the schedule, with S4V2 following either three months later in the usual June slot, or alternatively, the usual four months later in July. It was not to be, sadly. I then hoped that we might get a release in October, but alas, that was not to be either - we'd have heard about it by now.

I think out best hope will be for a release in either February or March of next year. If we've heard nothing by the end of November this year, I think that is very bad news.

Of course, we did have a 17 month gap previously....

I look at this release situation exactly the same way you do Richard.  I'm willing to say we might not hear any release news until December, but we are on the same basic wavelength here.  If we get to January 1st of next year with no release date then I say it's absolutely time to panic - or be really depressed - or both.

But, Jeff's suggestion of "insistent persuasion on the part of the fans" has merit of its own.  Give us your best thoughts on "How", Jeff?

The problem with the "wait-and-see" posture at this late date (and September will shortly be over) is that VOYAGE fans may well be waiting much longer than they would like to.

I am not as impatient for the final wrapping DVD release of VOYAGE as I am for some definite reassuring word that this will indeed come about and frankly we just don't have that.  We didn't have that the with previous VOYAGE DVD release either.

What happened last time is that VOYAGE fans eventually rallied and inundated 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment with e-mail requests for the next VOYAGE release which succeeded and we may well have to whistle up the troops all over again.

What bothers me is that we really shouldn't have to do all that.  The AMAZON.COM (U.S.) and AMAZON.CA (Canada) sales ranks for the previous VOYAGE DVD release were respectably strong well within the top 100 range.  This just couldn't have been a failure! 

But we are heading now in the final quarter of the year and a definite announcement should be about due if VOYAGE is indeed to be released in late March 2010 which should have been an amply long duration for Fox Home Entertainment to have readied things on their end.  The company can hardly complain that it has been rushed on this!

But I am not going to panic if necessary I am going to act and this discussion thread is an excellent medium to achieve our mutually desired objective.

I have to repeat in the interim are we going to get a second chance at having a more accurate representation of the unaired VOYAGE colour pilot "Eleven Days to Zero" (14/09/1964) as was implied the last time but never came about?!

Indeed, but any official announcement for a March release won't be any earlier than November. As I said earlier, Fox are very consistent with that timescale, and not just with their Voyage releases but many others as well.

Normally, we only hear about things earlier when there's been an unofficial leak, or someone from the studio makes a comment at a convention, or it's just a generalised comment such as "we plan to return to the series in 2009" without anything specific, stuff like that.

WBshop.com the Warners Web Site you may buy Voyage Fans from their Archive Collection Irwin Allens "City Beneath The Sea". You may phone orders in at 866-373-4389.  What a break I have wanted this TV Pilot Movie for sometime. The Seaview is even in the show as memory serves and of course the Flying Sub is more prominate.  Check it out fans I cannot wait for my copy to arrive.  Some critics do not think the Archive Collection is as good as restored films. The quality is their problem.  Critics admit though this is one way we will ever get to see the gigantic film libraries of the Studios.

October is here and no announcement yet for the final half of the series.

I just checked TVShowsonDVD.com, and the announcement for S4 V1 (for March 31, 2009 release) was made on 11/27/2008. 

 

So, if all holds true for the long-awaited final release of S4 V2, I'd say don't worry until Thanksgiving! 

 

Still, I agree with Jeff and Mark's earlier posts in that we should call and e-mail FOX about this! 

Well I sent my e-mail yesterday and I will further encourage others to do so as well.

I would be more than happy to leave matters in the hands of 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment but it seems a far wiser move to leave nothing to chance.

Hopefully the projected (fan mandated) deadline of late March 2010 will be met for the remaining VOYAGE season four volume two set.

Joe what a fantastic letter to Fox!!!!  You covered all the basies very nicely.   The avlanche of emails may get the studio rolling. I emailed Gord about something yesterday and asked what he might have heard on Voyage unfortunetly nothing.  That is why as everyone has said here we must muster up the fans and email fox.

You can always SAY THAT YOU ARE, since you intend to buy them anyway!   

Prepare for more sixties sci-fi elements, less Cold War, supernatural things, and many monsters as the series progresses -- but I love them ALL and, taken in the proper perspective (that being how revolutionary the series was given the tone and technology of the times), I'm sure you will too! 

The Warner Archive Collection release of "Ciy Beneath The Sea" I received on Friday. I also like that Warner states from the top they own this movie and they are the only one with the Legal right to release it.  The Movie was much better the than I thought it would be.  Sure it was not pristine as Voyage but neither was it as grainy as "Lost In Space".  If you own a blue-ray machine it looks even better.  Nice treat while we are waiting for our 13 episodes. I think that Warners unlike Fox saw the value of puting this title out. 

The title yes pricey 26 bucks that is with UPS shiping. I am very glad I got it.  Someone mention early in the thread the Time Tunnel itself was in Pacfica Control.  I of course saw the quipment the ribs of the tunnel I thought I saw. I also thought I saw Seaview in the frame first showing the city in the background. 

I know there are a lot of people waiting for Warner tv shows to be released and it looks like that may happen to.  I also spoke to them and they mentioned Video on demand and all titles from Archive are 19.95.  The UPS charge is what makes it cost more.  I wish Fox and all the rest will follow this policy.  I want Voyage though restored and nothing less.  It just would be a tragedy to get the last 13 any other way.  The united voice though that we give them and set by the guide lines that Joel gave us is most certainly the way to go.  Get City Beneath the Sea if you can afford the cost and see Irwin Allens last venture in network tv.

The past weekend I viewed "Cave of the Dead" I liked the Flying Sub intro.  The music cue started with may favorite Flying Sub cue and then went into that one piece of music I have heard so often and wonder if it is a music soundtrack from a movie. I really think it is and have mentioned before about wanting to track down.

I also thumbed threw my Voyage stuff and found where I had indeed read that at the end of Season 4 Voyage was going to be renewed by ABC but Irwin Allen was tired of the show. The article even spoke to the nice new opening of the show  and the new plots which were being tossed around to bring Voyage back to it's roots.  Irwin sold ABC instead on "Land Of The Giants" instead and sunk Seaview.   Oh they also liked Season 4 opener with the Volcanic Sets and Victor Jory as guest star.

Gentlemen, again many of you are panicing again.  Believe me I understand your concern.  However of you look at the 20th Century Fox Store you see a rather large array of video selections that they are offering at this time.  You and I tend to forget that the wide eyeglass they (Fox) are looking at and the
narrow eyeglass you and I are looking at are radically different.  They are looking at the big picture.  We are looking at a very narrow thin 13 episodes of one series.  Thats the difference.

OK I just peeked at Amazon and selected the Voyage 4th Season - Volume 1 product and scrolled down to read the comments and they tend to mirror the comments of many of you.  Bottom line I have concluded that the pressure is accumulating on Fox for what you are waiting for. 

I think many of you have forgotten the comments that you made not that long ago.  I seem to remember comments stating that essentially Season 4 was probably not going to hit the stores at all.  That Fox had quit after Season 3.  Wrong

I am sensative to your wishes.  All I am saying again is Fox is looking at a bigger picture than we are.  I firmly believe that this close to the goal line they are not going to quit on this series.

Well, I am typing this on October 14th.  If it was January 1st and I was typing this I still wouldn't be concerned.  Look at that first quote I put above again.  Throw out the concern and expect it to come.

Ok Guy's I decided I was sick of this constant waiting and no answers.  I called Fox on a non 800 number.  I only got a voice mail and I left my message.  I then went to the 800 number and pressed our case to just a person on the phone. I asked point blank what the history at Fox when they made a desition release the last of a series.  He said they look at the numbers . The fact even if it was only 13 ep to wrap up a series made no difference.  I pointed out Voyage was in the top 100 of Amazon.  The guy said if true the show would be released just have patience.

He did say they do look at fans excitment and it plays a factor in the release.  No place to vote for Voyage release at Fox this I also asked.

I asked about emails.  He of course had no info if that  helps or not.

Voyage fans when I spoke with Fox yesterday they listened to my long speech on the release of Season 4 vol 2.  The person I spoke with did make one suggestion I did not post here.  He said many people start a petition for Fox shows they want and the studio does look at these petitions.  I said how and he said it was very easy.

I never have been fond of petitions and I do not believe we are that desparate yet. He said it is done all the time and this is where www.petitionspot.com/start-a-petition/.  Voyage has only 13 to go maybe it will be 18 months that would make a year from now I do not know. I once again will state that Fox stated Voyage being in the top 100 of Amazon should be released. Do not give up.  I think petitions for shows that never have been released might be a good thing.  I cannot believe we are there yet but there is the info.
