I wouldn't worry too much about the timing of S4V2 - Mr. Pem will alter time to make it seem like it's all on schedule...

My DVD Collection

A fugitive moves on, through anguished tunnels of time, down dim streets, into dark corners. And each new day offers fear and frustration, tastes of honey and hemlock. But if there is a hazard, there is also hope. - Closing narration to THE FUGITIVE, "Death Is The Door Prize".

VERY GOOD, HARRY!

And maybe if we broke Blackbeard’s ghostly cutlass or smashed the evil leprechaun’s magic pipe, the set would instantaneously appear, where it wasn’t moments ago!   Um…or, maybe not.

Besides, I think we’ve all reasonably concluded that it will be about a year between releases – given the economy and the fact that (once this one is out) there ARE NO MORE releases to keep us returning.

Information on March time frame releases is still a few months off. I don’t expect to hear anything for quite a while.

And, as I keep saying throughout this thread, if FOX is down to releasing only one SIMPSONS set per year these days (when they used to release TWO -- and they have plenty more to go), I don’t see how we can expect a greater frequency from VOYAGE.

But, always good to keep this thread alive…

Voyage to the Bottom of the sea fans HAPPY LABOR DAY!!!  Seaview thankyou for the heads up on Michael Bailey. I wish I had been able to read his insights on Voyage.

I want to ask a question which I had read or heard years ago.  ABC was going to renew Voyage for a 4th season but Irwin Allen chose not to.  He offered the network Land of the Giants instead which would air in the Voyage time slot.  Has anyone else ever heard this?

Needless to say I am very unhappy about our last 13 shows release date.  I hate this waiting. When When When will Fox give us the last of our show.  I know I know quit your complaints.  I am sorry I just have to voice my frustration.

Voyage fans you are right to keep this thread going.  I will give input when I can.  I just wanted to comment on Seaview's posts.  Sir I really enjoy them!!!   I also must make a correction in my question to fans.  ABC gave Voyage  the green light for a 5th season.  Sorry it has been a long day.

Regarding the "City Beneath The Sea" video:

Link removed by moderator; see notice at top of this section and DO NOT REPOST.

Regarding the fourth season of Voyage.......

Since I work in commercial television I noted that when we got the first half of the fourth season that the audio in some episodes was what I will call shallow.  The dialogue conversation was fine but sound affects like explosions were not like they were originally.  The sounds lacked the frequency response that I heard and recorded on audio tape of the original showings.  This to me is significantly noted in the episode "Deadly Amphibians" in Disk 3, Side B.  My DVD player is hooked to a stereo amp which provides good frequency responce if it is present in the first place.

I am not complaining too much because we have what we have and could have received nothing.  The case was different this time as you all know.  I have to wonder with what I have stated if some short cuts were taken to get the this Fourth Season (first half) out there.  I may be wrong but I often wonder.

Regarding the second half of the fourth season................

You are anxious because you want it.  I am sure Fox will deliver the rest of the product in short order.  After all it is a product to them that can make them money.  In other words it is a product that is done and will be available for sale in their right time.  When that time is chosen the duplication will be underway.   Remember also that each package you have received has other ingredients in it (Special Features) that have to be acquired and processed as well.  It takes a plan to decide what is available after 40 years and what can be included as well.  The packaging with the artistic graphics requires a decision as well.  Duplication and distribution takes some time as you would expect.

Take these factors into account as you wait.  I am sure the final half will come.

Oh, and one other tidbit.......................

I am sure you all realize that the David Hedison interviews were all taped in one interview session.  They are split up in small bits to spread out over several video sets.  I know all of you realize that.

The tidbit:  How many of your heard part of a new question being asked in the last interview you have in your current collection which would be the Fourth Season Part One?  More specifically if you put in Disk 3 - Side B where the David Hedison interviews are and instead of "Play All" advance ahead to "Voice-Overs" and play just that one all the way to the end.  After David finishes his remarks you will hear a man that is asking the questions say "did you watch" -- and then it ends abruptly.

It will be interesting to see what the remaining topics and answers will be when the Fourth Season Part Two hits the market.   And again be patient about that.  Getting upset will not bring it any sooner.

Mike Bailey's voice lives on, his Voyage site is still online. He was always intelligent and insightful, he will be missed:

Meanwhile, here's a list of the yet to be released Year Four episodes, but I'm going to follow Jeff Ts example and only mention the positives for each episode. For historical interest, here are the Nielsen ratings/shares each episode received from Jan-March 1968 during their original ABC-TV run (courtesy of AC Nielsen and Tim Colliver). Back then, a 17-18 rating or higher was considered a barely passable rating, and a 27-30 share was bare minimum for renewal.

Return of Blackbeard: Malachi Throne has fun here and it's different to see some of the crew turned into pirates. Nielsen RATINGS BLACK-OUT WEEK

Terrible Leprechaun: Walter Burke gives an energetic performance. Terry Becker provides a laugh or two as Chief Sharkey. Rating: 15.5  Share: 23

Lobster Man: Mr. Lobster Man is actually a pretty good costume, except for the face. Rating: 15.2  Share: 25

Nightmare: Paul Mantee is a good actor. Crane making that emergency dive in the flying sub in the teaser is great. Rating: 14.9  Share: 25

Abominable Snowman: Lots of action. The way the Admiral adds up the identity of the killer Snowman is creepy and good action scenes.

Rating: 12.1  Share: 22

Secrets of the Deep: All kinds of exciting monsters, plenty of action. Peter Mark Richman is a good bad guy. Rating: 13.6  Share: 22

Man-Beast: This has a great new music score. The "ape-man" makeup is cool.  Rating: 14.7  Share: 22

Savage Jungle: Seeing the interior of Seaview transformed into a jungle is a cool, disorienting effect. Great last shot of Seaview lifting off from the ocean floor. Nicholas Dimitri as one of the silver toy aliens turns in an adequate performance.
Rating: 13.9  Share: 25

Flaming Ice: Nice sets and special effects.  Rating: 13.6  Share: 23

Attack: I liked how Skip Homeier is actually a friendly alien who wants to save the human race. Two flying saucer shots in this episode are fantastic.

Rating: 13.5  Share: 23

Edge of Doom: Intriguing mystery, good performances.

Rating: 13.2  Share: 24

Death Clock: One nightmare I had as a kid was falling over a cliff and maybe I got that from this episode, where Crane takes a tumble over a spectacular "stock footage" cliffside. A friend of mine once gave a copy of this episode to guest star Christopher Browne Robinson (Corpsman Mallory), who had been searching for this episode for years. This was one of those episodes made up of a series of neat surrealistic vignettes, dinosaurs and such.

Rating: 12.5   Share: 22

No Way Back: The opening teaser is pretty shocking. Barry Atwater (Benedict Arnold) gives the episode dignity. I remember a scene where Kowalski and the crew feel sorry for Major John Andre's (Bill Beckley) horrible fate in history. I think Kowalski gets a "You can't change history" lecture from Crane but I'm not sure.

It would figure that the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA episode "The Terrible Leprechaun" (07/01/1968) would have passable audience ratings at the time!  No accounting for taste.  This would also be the final closing VOYAGE episode aired in primetime on Sunday, September 15th, 1968.

Clearly by the tv audience ratings provided by Nick which are all generally below the passing baseline of a 15 this is a show in definite decline and there is no possible way that VOYAGE could have been renewed for a fifth season.

Since the tv audience ratings for the second half of the fourth season (1967-68) have been provided it would be (very) nice to see the ratings for the first half as well.

You know what.  I'll admit I've not been worrying about the completion of this series up to this point.  I've just assumed (I know that's a bad thing to do, especially in this hobby) that Fox wouldn't leave the last half season hanging out there... But now I am beginning to wonder.  They really do seem to be completely abandoning their classic TV shows (other than the one MTMS season set, which itself has changed more than once and been pushed back a couple of times).  I now have to consider the fact that we really might not get that final set.  And what a shame it would be.  But I'm being to think that's a distinct possibility.  I still say we should probably give them till the end of the 1st quarter of next year before we really give up the ghost, but I'm not nearly as confident about this release as I was 6 months ago, or even 6 weeks ago.

Gary "could Fox really be that lame to not finish this series out when they are so close to the finish line?" O.

I am not sure fox will not complete the series, but, they could be waiting to see how existing copies are selling around the first 4 seasons. I remember picking up the first season, volume 1 &2 for about $20/each. I am looking at doing that down the road. I am watching my budget, so, i wait to when i see deals on dvds. I just picked up Space 1999 for $87.00, which is the complete series, which was over $200 about a year or so ago. So, my question, is why do studios price the items for $45-50 then a year or so sell them for $20-25 dollar range. Would you not have a better pricing strategy, which could result in better sales. Sometimes the studios get greedy with pricing, like when I bought third watch for $20, when it was originally selling for 60-70. They wonder why people dont buy dvds. They forget that if you dont price it correctly especially with people having tight budgets then items may not sell..

It's not close enough to Christmas to panic that this has been abandoned so close to the end. There's always a chance that if they've really given up, Fox can always let Shout! handle it like they did Son of the Beach. But that would rule out them boxing them up for a Complete series collection.

Let Shout! handle it?!

Please read any thread on IRONSIDE before you hand over our favorite incomplete classic sci-fi series to those folks!

I wouldn't feel compelled to have to remind people of Shout's failings (which are equal to those of other companies) if it weren't for the fact that there are too many people in this and other forums who seem determined to adopt a Princess Leia style attitude surrounding this company.      ("Help me Shout Factory, you're my only hope!")

Exactly, Jack!    FOX has give us no reason to believe that VOYAGE will be abandoned.  Slowed? Yes.  But even THE SIMPSONS has been slowed by FOX.  Abandoned?  No evidence yet!

But. there's always this knee jerk reaction (seen in so many other threads) to give it to Shout!

They haven't exactly earned the unconditional adoration I seem to see over and over again on this forum.  VOYAGE hasn't been abandoned, but IRONSIDE has.  So, I'll keep VOYAGE at FOX and take my chances!

I'll say this - if Shout! put out the VTBOS DVDs, they wouldn't be stupid flippers.

But given Shout's readiness to accept subpar material, Fox would be more apt to let them have the last set of grainy transfers rather than the remastered ones they've been putting out.   (anyone remember "Rhoda"?)

And sure, Shout finished two titles, just as the much maligned CBS/Paramount has also finished "Mission: Impossible" and "Wild Wild West" and Fox finished all the other Irwin Allen titles, but they've also got "The Bill Cosby Show" as another black mark next to them along with "Ironside", plus the abandonment of future volumes of the Dick Cavett talk shows and "The Electric Company".       That adds up to a track record that once again, please is *no better* than any one else's!      So if you want to praise what they do finish, fine, but please, please let us hear the last of this "Help me Shout Factory, you're our only hope" nonsense every time a show runs into trouble from one of the other companies.

And you don't know that for a fact. It was clearly established that if SF were to license anything from another company, they would get whatever has been recently remastered. In other words, if SF were to release the final vol. of VTTBOTS, Fox will give them the same clean looking prints that Fox has been releasing so far. "Rhoda" was taken from transfers made decades ago, so of course they look terrible. It's apples and oranges here.

And if FOX has already done the work of remastering VOYAGE, why would that work have been done for naught?

We were through this over a year ago… “Damn you, FOX! Damn you to hell for abandoning VOYAGE!” The masses cried out!

But FOX DIDN’T abandon VOYAGE! They released S4, V1 (albeit in cheaper packaging to concede something to the anti-FOX crowd) in March… a post-holiday time, when the competition was strategically low.

Does ANYONE on this forum have ANY true insider knowledge that indicates that they will not do this again to complete the series? Really, does ANYONE? Because I’d sure like to know it!

Truth is we know NOTHING! But there are those already lining up to anoint Shout! Factory as our rescuer! Why? There isn’t any reason to do so yet!

And, even if there was, why Shout!?  Why is it always Shout!?

Shout! has done its share of good things – and I give it props for those things – but I must agree with Jack that their reputation on these boards often seems in excess of the reality.

They did a fine job with McHALE’S NAVY (to name one title in my collection – a COMPLETED title, I might add), and they’ve done a poor job with IRONSIDE – an ABANDONED title in my collection.  Not “believed to be abandoned”, as we keep accusing FOX of, but “actually abandoned”!

Yet, they remain darlings for transgressions that would forever damn FOX, Warner, and CBS / Paramount.  They’re all the same, folks! Good and Bad!

Small “Indie” isn’t always good and Big isn’t always bad! They’re all good and they’re all bad in their own ways. That’s all there is to it. And I should be able to say this without being branded a hater of Shout!, as Jack has been in other threads!

Now, please excuse me… I must pull on a leprechaun’s beard! Wonder if he’ll “Shout!” when I do!

the abandoned second season of The Bill Cosby Show is on Hulu, too.

Don't get to bitter on the subject of Shout!. Maybe they aren't the salvation, but they appear to be one of the few DVD companies that's able to work with Sony, Fox and Universal.

They did finish off Son of the Beach after that show had been abandoned by Fox.

There are 6 more seasons of Ironside and if Shout! received too many returns of Season 1, it's easy to see why they didn't continue the series. Perry Mason used to get a lot of rerun action from cable in the 90s. I hadn't seen Ironside on TV after it was taken off the air until RTN started running it.

I'd like to point out that it isn't the simple abandonment of titles that has gotten Shout a black mark with me, it's the fact that they have a frequent habit of being less than candid regarding what they are doing.      On both "Bill Cosby Show" and "Ironside" the fans of those shows were strung along for one solid year with false assurances that the titles were not abandoned.     This went on for more than a year before they finally compelled themselves to admit otherwise.    The "sales figures" excuse on "Ironside" did not wash for the simple reason that they had that available data for quite some time when they were still giving out our leaking assurances (one of which was repeated at this very forum by one of the two men responsible for TV Shows on DVD) that the show was not abandoned (plus, I really will never understand how they could advance commit to a *second* release of "Peyton Place" even before they could have any sales figures to digest over the first release!).     But if sales was the real reason, then they set an absolute low for customer releations PR in their public statements and on their message board that is unmatched by any other studio/company in this business.       They were also less than candid about the "Rhoda" situation, in which we had to find out from an outside reviewer with an advance copy that two-thirds of the episodes were butchered.  That makes them *equally* guilty of the PR deception CBS/Paramount played regarding the music replacement on "The Fugitive" S2 V1 which we had no advance word about.        We have always rightly blasted CBS/Paramount about this even to the point where their making amends for that to a large degree that we ALL would have taken on the day S2 V1 first came out, is still not good enough for some people and reason for them to continue depicting CBS/Paramount as a fraud with its "We put television on a pedestal" spin.    But Shout?    They're always the innocent victim.    "At least they tried."     That kind of inconsistent standard just boggles my mind.

I would rather see them finish what they started before they overcommit to other titles, especially when as the "Werewolf" debacle reveals, they still haven't learned their lesson about how to practice good customer relations PR.

And if you actually read carefully, you'll know full well that nowhere did they say, word-for-word, that "ALL EPISODES OF RHODA ARE COMPLETE". And the fact that they had to rely on private collectors just to get full-length episodes, should have been a clear indication of that.

And please, stop saying "an Outside reviewer". It's getting boring and reptetitive the more you say it.

Why should I stop saying "an outside reviewer" when that happens to be the *truth* regarding what happened?    I guess I should come away from that remark convinced that your determination to whitewash Shout extends to insisting that all inconvenient facts be declared "boring".   To say Shout was totally candid ahead of time on "Rhoda" based on what you're saying is like saying CBS/Paramount sufficiently covered their butts with the "some music has been replaced" disclaimer on "The Fugitive".

Boring repetition IMO is when someone falls into Princess Leia mode regarding a title.
