When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
The main two movies I forgot to mention. "Rawhide" composer "Sol Kaplan" there was one cue used in "Time Tunnel" and "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea". The other movie " The Desert Fox" Michael Rennie narrates while the Voyage and Tunnel music is playing. These movies are both out on DVD.The music used when Tony and Doug are zapped to another time I assume was composed by John Williams but it is not on the Time Tunnel CD. I remember it used in one episode of "Land of the Giants". The Second Season of Giants starring our good friend the wonderful "Dr Smith"as a Piper. I do not have the Dvds of Giants or Space.
The Lincoln episode at Fords Theater came from a clip from the movie "Prince of Players". I am still looking for the movie Cue used in Tunnel and Voyage. The Cue plays a lot on Tunnel. The Cue played during the great dino fight in "Chase through Time" on Tunnel. I am sure the movie clip came from "Lost World".
I also for years cannot find the music for the the episodes Moon, Krakatoa and the Troy epiosodes on the Time Tunnel. Can anyone help?
I enjoyed season 4 of Voyage frezze frame and the new opening to the show. The new music cues they added to the show were very good.
I also thought Voyage was given a green light by ABC for season 5 and it was Irwin Allen who chose to sink Seaview. " Fan Seaview any help here"???

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
I was very sorry to hear about Del Monroe's passing. He brought an authentic quality to "Kowalski" and I'm glad he was able to meet many of the VOYAGE fans at some of the conventions in the past 10 years.I found a couple of interviews he did, one for Starlog in 1998 and another for Filmfax (2001?) and he was very humble and grateful about Voyage's cult popularity. In the Starlog issue, it mentions that Irwin expected Voyage to play until 1974 (expecting a full 10 year run) and Irwin was very angry over the 1968 cancellation.
Del himself wanted Voyage to last until 1971 but reconciled himself to its healthy four-year run. In Filmfax, Del recalls asking his former landlord (back in 1965), "Hey, have you seen any Voyage episodes?" and the landlord admitted that after seeing one show, it scared him too much, he couldn't watch it anymore.
Always liked that last scene in Secret of the Deep - you're supposed to be watching Nelson and Crane talk about how they had a weapon the villain didn't have, "the crew of the Seaview," and if you look in the background, Del (at sonar) tilts his head to listen to them compliment the crew and then he breaks into a triumphant smile. A nice moment, possibly an ad-lib.
Mark, I believe it was primarily sinking ratings that sank Voyage by the end of year 4. Jeff T may know more about this, especially about its audience demographics, which I know very little about. That Colliver book lists the last Voyage episode (No Way Back) with an 11.5 rating, one of the lowest ratings ever for Voyage, so from a mass audience perspective, Voyage was on its way out.
Very interesting about the "Lincoln" Prince of Players clip being used on Time Tunnel. I had wondered where that clip came from. And everyone's input on the "stock" music origins for Voyage has been fascinating.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Thankyou Seaview!!! I had no idea about all of those things. I was just going to log on and say I found the comic strings at the end of Merlin the TT episode. Yours is much more exciting to read. The Merlin cue was from Lost in Space the 40th Anniversay 2cd issue. There is music from both Voyage and Tunnel . The cues are on #2. I also found a bit more beside the Comet music on Lost in Space the second cd issued. The footage of the mine workers I believe was from the movie "How Green Was My Valley" on that Tunnel episode.
Please let us hear more Seaview!!!

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Looks like Fox have announced their September releases - no Voyage of course. So S4v1 in March and six months later....nothing....God in heaven they sure are screwing us over with this show. They actually made and broadcast the damn thing faster than this.
Anyone want to take bets that we won;t see the final half season until next March?

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Guess what of course? I had phoned Fox yesterday not knowing about the September List. The response was this. The release of a part one of a Season set does not mean they are going to release a Part 2. I asked "how long would it be, could they guess before part 2 of Voyage set would be released"?. I asked is there a policy? The response Fox gave me no Joke. "Sometimes years there is no policy". "Check their web site periodically you just never know". I emailed our good friends at TvshowsOnDVD.com last night and just read Gord's email this AM and he said that was the usual response. We all may have to go on the email express like before to Fox about this.
Now with this September thing I am very upset that we may be waiting along time. I guess keeping this Thread alive would also be a good thing too.
I thought the sales were good on Part 1 of Voyage. They were sold out in my area and I had to drive 100 miles roundtrip to get my copy.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Oh yes. If the bean counters worked out they could make ten cents more profit by taking the original masters and burning them to save on heating rather than releasing them onto DVD they'd be running for the matches."Fox, what is your policy regarding this show?"
"Well, we don't give a shit, obviously"

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
RIGHT ON!!!! I joined the Forum because of Voyage. This thread has to be HAS TO BE the longest one in the Forum! I just do not understand the attitude. Perhaps Gord or David will inquire for us when they think enough time has passed. I would like to think the restoration is the wait. Why not tell us though Fox. We all would be happy for any crumbs you would throw us. The Big Valley story is what scares me.I am sure glad "Shout" picked up Peyton Place my other favorite show from Fox. The quality film does not come near Voyage. In fact my whole tv show collection does not match the pristine prints of Voyage. But still again why Fox not tell us that it is takeing time to restore the show.

Fans of "The Big Valley" could already tell you that. CBS/Paramount at least to their credit always finishes a season they start of a title even if they plan on abandoning it.
I am amazed thought that Fox just can't get off their butts and finish this one though.

I had hoped for a late summer release. What I forgot to factor in was what year. I am still waiting for Universal to release the rest of Black Sheep Squadron. I thought they were bad but now Fox takes the cake.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
The mystery stock footage of the "explosion" on top of the sea with the white orb visible (mentioned a few posts back) is from the George Pal film ATLANTIS THE LOST CONTINENT. It's the last thing seen as Atlantis sinks beneath the waves...the explosion is the crystal weapon detonating (which is the white orb) I have this on a DVD from a laserdisc transfer. I believe VOYAGE also used ATLANTIS footage when the island tilts and rises into the air (one of their dino island episodes) GARDEN OF EVIL's music was used a lot in VOYAGE also, and there are 2 great CDs available. One is Herrmann's original and the other a re-recording by John Morgan/William Stromberg.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
I can't understand all of the moaning about the lack of info on the final release of VOYAGE SEASON FOUR VOLUME 2.Think people. The last release of Season Three occured in October of 2007. Then, because of the slowing economy, a glut of releases on the market, etc., it took a full 17 months until the next release.
I don't know about things where you live, but the economy around here hasn't exactly become robust lately. It's still slow - people are of work - jobs are being lost, and the home video industry has to be just as soft as everything else.
Wouldn't it seem logical that a long space of time would occur before FOX will concern itself over that final release of VOYAGE? Won't it possibly be greeted with better sales once the economy finally turns around?
Give it time, people. Give it time.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
I agree it may be to early to complain but I am for these reasons. Why did we get the pilot over again instead of "The Return of Blackbeard"?
Why did they release 2 full seasons of "Land of the Giants" toys and all?
Why did Best Buy not carry season 4 when they are packed on the shelves with other seasons? 18 months perhaps is the answer.
Why when sales were so good for Season 4 Part 1 economy the same you would hold back Part 2? Should it not indicate even better sales for Part 2 because people want to finish their set not to mention the series.
Why would you not even give a ray of hope to fans that the show would be finished?
Why tell a fan that years could go by before the release of 13 episodes to end the series? I asked what policy indicated that response they said none.
I asked about sales. Response the show was not scheduled for release period. She was very nice put me on hold to even check once more. She returned and said she was sorry. Watch the Fox web site. I do not blame this person. She was very sincere.
I want the show to finish with the great film quality we have had in the past.
What is wrong with complaining? The complaining fans may have brought about the release of Part 1 I will take part 2 iin whatever cheap way they want to deliver it. I have had my say thankyou. I will still support this thread and will enjoy reading whatever memories and thoughts people have about Voyage. Like the music we have been talking about.
I also with many others mourn the loss of Del Monroe. I enjoyed reading Seaviews thoughts on this fine actor.

I have no problem with the concept of complaining about no release or information - I just think it's a bit too soon given the current situation.Harry

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Since we've now had the September List, it means that there will be a minimum of six months between S4V1 and any-as-yet-hypothetical S4V2Pretty long gap between two halves of the same season.
And I still wouldn't put it past Fox to dump the series even this close to the end.

Harry if you thought the complaining comments I made were caused because what you said here please forgive me. The half full or half empty is what is most true I think. I do believe the show is coming out. I am sure like last summer that Gord or David will inquire for us. If not this summer then what ever they deem the time should be.I found the Japanese ship from KIll or be Killed and the harbor or is it Kill two by Two from Time Tunnel. The movie Heaven Knows Mr Allison has the footage.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
I do think we'll see the last DVD set of Voyage released, it'll just be awhile.Appreciated the interesting stock footage info from Charles. Another strange shot is from the teaser of ATTACK, where we see a saucer in the sky, firing a laser beam. I suspect it was stock (NOT from Day the Earth Stood Still) but I'm not sure. An interesting visual effect.
As we wait, here's one of many Voyage tidbits I found in a book called Science Fiction Television Series (1996, McFarland). During breaks in the filming of "Man Beast,' actor Lawrence Montaigne (Dr. Kermit Braddock) recalls that he would race around the Seaview corridors in his wheelchair, then Basehart would grab the wheelchair and race down the halls, then Hedison would take a turn...etc. Sometimes I wonder if the antics off-set were wilder than the actual voyages?
A more sobering story is shared by actor Mark Slade (crewman Malone in year one) of how JFK's assassination affected the filming of the 1963 Voyage pilot film.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Gosh some stories keep them coming Seaview!!! The JFK story sounds like a very good one to hear. I read also that some way JFK's assassination had a profound effect on Elizabeth Montgomery and her husband Bill Asher during the filming of Bewitched. That show also came out in the fall of 64 if I am not mistaken. The day in American History that all of us who were alive and old enough to remember shall never forget.
Thankyou much Seaview

With 26 episodes, cutting it in half gives 13 for each half-season. "The Return Of Blackbeard" should be the first episode of the eventual Volume 2 box set.
I truly believe that FOX mixed up what they intended to release in the way of the pilot. Either they botched the first release back on that first set, or they botched this one. Bottom line is that there shouldn't be TWO iterations of the exact same film version. We should have gotten the one with the original title sequence and music somewhere along the line.

This I believe was a case of marketing. LAND OF THE GIANTS, though it has a loyal fanbase, that fanbase isn't as large as the other Irwin Allen series. If they'd chosen the half-season route like they did with the other series, the situation possibly would have manifested itself with a large amount of sales for the first volume, followed by a quick and dramatic drop-off in sales for the subsequent volumes.
With LAND OF THE GIANTS, once you get through the first bunch of episodes, there's not really a whole lot to look forward to. It's just more of the same - the giants capture someone and the gang has to rescue them.
By packaging the whole series together, FOX ensured that anyone who wanted just SOME of the episodes, had to buy ALL of them. The incentive then was the deluxe packaging, which I believe they carried a bit far, and made the set too expensive. I waited for a $99 sale at Amazon to make my purchase - and that's the price point at which the series makes sense to me.

You'd have to ask Best Buy that question, but I believe it's part of an overall shift within that company to only carry the hot current items and leave the catalog of older titles relegated to online purchases. FWIW, everytime I look in best buy, all I see is Season One of VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA.

Re: When are We going to see a Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea DVD Release?!!!!!
Harry many thanks to the questions I had. I also thought the David Hedison interview was also a rerun from a prior volume. I thought some of it perhaps I had not heard but the bulk I did. Your thoughts when you can.The Best Buy I happen to know. Your store may reorder more. Mine was low but when S4V1 came out the shelf was packed. The same on that 100mile trip I took to get my copy from Borders. I check the Best Buy next door packed on the shelf. I felt they Knew Voyage was coming out why no captialize on it. My feelings only not those that I know at Best Buy.
Peyton Place one of my favorites of all time is being carried by Best Buy. My friends were surprised a delightfull one. The show seems to trancend time like Voyage and Dark Shadows. We are getting alot postive input on it. Give a try Voyage fans youl might like Peyton Place.
I am lucky to live in area that has a station devoted to old shows similar to Tvland. I have seen some of my old favortie police dramas they look very dated. Some I was thinking of getting now I am not. Voyage just looks great to me and that includes the goofy shows. Once again thankyou Seaview I know all fans here are enjoying your input it's a good read.

You know it makes me some damn mad to see that a show like Ally McNeal is getting a release in not only full seasons but also a complete set for collectors/fans right from the get go, whilst we Voyage fans have had Fox messing around for over three years with bloody half-season sets and huge, incredibly annoying gaps (like seventeen month ones) and yet another delay between the first and second halves of the final season. For god's sake Fox just release the last thirteen blasted episodes, it's maddening...
and I still have this nagging doubt that you'll drop the series 90% complete.
How much better it would have been to put Voyage out in full seasons plus a complete collector set, for one thing you'd have done it before the recession bit.

I remember Richard or David speaking of visiting our service men in the Navy I believe. I began to remember someone here stated it played in the UK. I wonder how many Countrys Voyage played in. The Land Down Under and Canada I am sure. Germany perhaps France?
I have the box set of cds called "The Fantasy Worlds of Irwin Allen". There is a Dvd plus a Vhs tape of the same name. I recommend them highly to all Voyage fans. The bonus CD has all the great sound effects from all the Irwin Allen TV series

Well if anything is holding up the (likely) imminent final release of the remaining 13 season four (1967-68) VOYAGE episodes it can't be disappointing sales as both the AMAZON.COM (U.S.) and AMAZON.CA (Canada) sales ranks for the VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA - SEASON FOUR 3-disc set were well within the top 100. If this can be taken as any kind of accurate indication...which I think it is!
It may well be that only the initial 13 season four VOYAGE episode were digitally remastered and fully restored from the original 35mm print negatives until it could be ascertained if the subsequent sales warranted further continuation so it may be another lengthy wait for the remaining episodes to be readied.
Even 20th Century-Fox Home Entertainment in its packaging design literature acknowledged "the long anticipated" VOYAGE season four, volume one DVD release.
Right now what I am more "annoyed" about is the (needless) repitition of the selfsame altered VOYAGE "Eleven Days to Zero" (14/09/1964) colour pilot which from all indications another version was actually intended to be included.
At this late date can this mistake be rectified and the correct colour pilot that was planned be made available in the volume two VOYAGE season four DVD release?!

I think we'll see another March (2010) or thereabouts release. I doubt we'll see it toward the end of the year (2009) because, as much as WE all love VOYAGE, it's an unlikely Holiday gift item.
So, it'll come in the more "dead time" of March, as it did this year. (And, for all we know, maybe that's WHY it did as well as it did!)
That's what I think, anyway!
Oh, and as I've said several times before with regard to 2008... there will be only one SIMPSONS release in 2009 (indicating a continued slowdown at FOX), so why would we expect two VOYAGE releases?
I'm just glad FOX has given the support it HAS given to this favorite show of ours!

Well leaving aside the fact that it's a WHOLE Simpsons season and only half a Voyage one...
I have the depressing thought that you're probably right.
