My order with them shipped the same day it was placed and I had the player 2 days later. They were very helpful answering my questions and followed up on the sale with an unsolicited email asking if I was happy with the purchase. Pretty good customer service. You can also read up on other DVB318 buying experiences with them in

They were very helpful answering my questions and followed up on the sale with an unsolicited email asking if I was happy with the purchase. Pretty good customer service. Todd, I purchased mine from Gochnauer's. It's a sorta convoluted procedure as you're supposed to first ask for an e-mail price quote then order either online or over the phone. My price was also $160 including FedEx ground shipment all the way from Pennsylvania to CA.
They get them in batches and don't always have them physically in stock--I had to wait a few days for a batch to come in, then received an e-mail that it had shipped including a FedEx tracking number.
The player arrived about a week and a half after I ordered it (took 3 days for my "batch" to arrive at the store).

I've read the entire 3226 post thread over at AVS and come to the conclusion that the best results are achieved with a crt based display using component inputs, like yours.
I did watch special features on it--stopped the disc, got up and hit the conversion switch twice to get 480p, and proceeded as I would have with my Panasonic CP-72. I did not notice any color bleeding or combing associated with poor de-interlacing of video based material. It was a bit less convenient than being able to do it with a remote but I need the exercise, and the hassle is more than made up for with the ability to scale non-anamorphic widescreen (that you CAN do with the remote
)

The HT Secrets guy that posts on AVS says they have a new review almost ready - it's going to have the Zenith in it (which he mentioned in another thread that they did find a few problems with it), as well as a couple other upscaling players.

Maybe, but this is a proven model and its resolution is what everyone is buying it for. I am sure newer more expensive models will have more features though.

I picked up the LG player this afternoon and am blown away so far. I've been having a real hard time finding a DVD player I like.
I started with a Sony DVP-725. It had a VERY soft picture and the chroma bug. Then I picked up the Harmon Kardon DVD22. It has a very sharp image, but bad combing issues randomly appear while watching movies. I then looked at the Denon 910 and it looked pretty much like th Sony, but no chroma bug.
The LG produces an extremely sharp image on my Toshiba 46HX83. I think this is the player I'll be keeping for a while. Every disk I throw in looks terrific.
The only wierd thing with the player is that I had my overscan at about 3% for the sides of the image on the other DVD players. With the LG, the DVE overscan pattern shows 5% on the sides. Any settings in the DVD player to adjust this? I don't think it's my TV as I believe the service mode settings change all resolutions.
If anyone has the Pronto IR code for switching upconversion settings, I'd really appreciate if you'd post it! Also, I'd be intrested in any tweaks which my be available (I've already seen the Zenith 318 thread at AVS).

A question re: Zenith 318 upscaling player
I posted this over at AVS and haven't gotten any responses there yet so maybe someone experienced can help me here...here goes
So in looking through this mammoth thread...the player can do 1080i through the components? I am thinking of getting this as I have a panny ptl200u projector and currently watch a lot of HD (yes I know the projector has resolution limits and 1080i sources do have some issues--but they still look incredible sans the limitations). What do you guys think of getting this with the projector I mentioned...will the pq be similar to what I'm accustomed to seeing in HD 1080i sources? I could live with the limitations of my projector if it means that dvd's will look as good as HD programs do. (By the way I view on a 96 inch screen).
Anyone have any ideas? What about the Samsungs with the Faroudija processors--would they be better????

yes, it can do 1080i via component. PQ on my crt based HD-ready rptv when watching film based material is close to but not equal to the same movie on HBO-HD or Showtime HD, but not close to video based HD stuff from HDNet, Discovery HD, or INHD.
I'm not at all familiar with your pj, and am assuming it's an lcd or dlp unit. I've waded thru the entire thread over at AVS and results with fixed pixel displays vary widely. That being said, if your pj handles 1080i from an HDTV tuner box well it should also work well with the DVB-318.
You will have to switch the Zenith to 480p for 4/3 stuff if your pj locks into widescreen mode when fed 1080i, and some people have reported color bleeding at 480p though I've seen none at 480p with my crt based display. One guy in particular with an Infocus pj is reporting bad color bleeding at 480p. For non-anamorphic widescreen you can do a vertical-only zoom with the player that looks very nice, and leave it at 1080i.
The Zenith does have the Faroudja dcdi chip.
