| One thing I don't understand from the end of season 3 is why Lauren would tell Sydney the safety deposit box number as she is dying. I just don't see why she would use her 'last breath' to help Sydney. |
I don't think 'help' is the operative word here. She knew the information would hurt Sydney deeply (and based on the leaked S4 info so far, it has) and so it was more of a 'I know something you don't know' thing.
as for the spoiler:
Warning Spoiler! Click to showAllison Georgia Doren (Fake Francie) was part of Jack's Project Christmas as was Sydney... we have no idea what that entailed but certainly the ability to be shot up and live is one of the attributes of the program.

You know you're desperate to see the season premiere when you dream about watching it the night before.

Loved the new opening credits montage. How many different get-ups was Sydney in in that montage?

Last year sucked.

This year doesn't, so far...
Unfortunately, Time Magazine spoiled the fact that Sloane was Sydney's new boss, so I wasn't shocked when I saw him.
I'm not a fan of the new opening credits and the remixed theme, I liked it the way it was.

Good show.
Warning Spoiler! Click to showI guess they figured out a way to stop all those stupid chatroom correspondences between Jack & Irina.

I thought the premiere was a little on the dour side. Plus, it was so dark, didn't make it fun to watch during long stretches of the 2 hours.
I thought the black-light documents showed Jack heading up Project Christmas, and Sydney being a by-product of that project.
I was amazed that it took about 52 minutes into the first hour to mention Rambaldi.
I guess Lena Olin's hardline stance forced JJ and company to write her character out of the show with this turn of events. Of course, the mystery of why the hit was placed on Sydney, and then having to staying one step ahead of Nadia before Jack and Sydney can break the news of who had Irina dispatched.
The new nicknames are cute. When will Weiss get wise of Sydney's real new career move?

Too bad the tight blue dress from episode 2 didn't make the opening credits.

I didn't mind that.

Weiss: So, what bank are you working for?
Sydney: I think you've heard of it. Credit Dauphine?

Aside from the obvious cheat about what Syd found in the bank box (Lauren said it was something about who was "controlling" Syd, as both were "pawns in the same game"), that was ok.
Some of the sheen has worn off of this show for me. It really bothered me last year when they started linking things together after the fact and moving the story forward with no concern for logical progression (Alias may be a fantastical series, but it always had its own internal logic).
But to totally switch what was obviously revealed in the cliffhanger last year... lame. And I'd still like to smack Lena Olin for refusing to return to the series, because I think she's indirectly to blame for so many of these problems (well, mostly the writers, but... I'm bitter, and I loved her character).
Don't think Alias will ever be as good as it was in season 2, but I'll keep watching.

Vaughn: "Last year sucked."
Solid premiere, and I nearly lost it over that line. I know J.J. Abrams was upfront in interviews about Season 3's shortcomings, but I didn't expect him to have the characters mention it.
And thank you for finally getting rid of SpyMommy once and for all. I loved Lena Olin's performance and I think a big reason for Season 3 sucking was the fact that they could never talk her into returning, but enough's enough. If the woman refuses to reprise the role, kill her off and be done with it. I'd been advocating a cheap, meaningless death for her(kinda like Blofeld in For Your Eyes Only) for over a year now, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Abrams and Co. go through with it.

Lena wanted more money to reprise her role in season 3, so JJ and company just did the whole IM thing with Jack, but now they are moving on, and tossing in from left field, the plotline that Sydney was pissed at Jack for having Irina killed, only to find out that he did so because Irina had put a contract on Sydney's head. It seems very forced and way too abrupt, even for Alias.
I still can't believe they blew over the whole revelation of Project Christmas, and Jack's involvement with it, and Sydney being in the project too.

Well, it was kind of hard not to besides for the obvious reasons. As much as I like Garner I felt bad for the rest of the cast being left out. That's what I kind of liked about the old credits - no one really had the spotlight.
The whole Irina thing has been forced for awhile, with the whole IM scenes last season (makes me think of Chrissy from Three's Company being relegated to phone call scenes

). I'm assuming when her transmission cut out in one of the last season's eps that was the moment? Or was Jack supposed to have done it himself?
I don't know if I can handle both Nadia and Syd in hottie mode. Too...much...stimuli...
And just as I was wondering, "What about Marshall?" they recruit him. That was pretty cool.

I expected to see diamonds on the face of the bad guy. And, how bout that beginning sequence with Syd in the white lingerie. And then, they showed it again! Boy, someone knows who their audience is!
I enjoyed it. Pretty good episodes!

Well, that was weak.
Does anyone on this show ever learn anything? I'll dismiss the "how stupid does Syd think Weiss is?" argument because I imagine she wants him to know what's going on (although with deniability) as a backup. But, geez, Sloan is getting into Spike-on-Buffy territory in terms of wondering how long he can believably be around without a character putting a bullet in his head. Sure, Syd and Dixon might not sink to that level, but I'm pretty sure Jack has killed for less than Sloan has done.
And the new stupid set-up at the end... Hasn't Sydney learned by now that keeping these kinds of secrets within the agency and letting these things fester just gets people killed and hurt all the more deeply when it finally, inevitably, comes out? I'm sort of doubting that next week starts with "no, because (a) she friggin' had it coming and (b) this never, ever, ever ends when your personal need for revenge has been satisfied".
Also, watching it after Lost, I noticed something that annoys me about J.J. Abrams's writing style - he likes to hold things back too much. He'll have us follow a character, but then this protagonist will learn something but carefully shield it from the audience. Or he'll set up a revelation and then jump forward, saying nothing big happened because of it, but remember it, it'll be important. It's a cheat, and I think he's about reached the end in terms of how many times he can do it before it just becomes obnoxious.
