A question about the Michael Card listing above. I have had the CD of Scribbling in the Sand for a long time and never realized there was a DVD of the performance available. So I went looking on amazon and it is discontinued. The lone reviewer there, though, (from 2002) makes a specific point of saying that there is no 5.1 track (either DD or DTS). Can you straighten me out on that before I go scouring around at various haunts trying to find a copy?
That information is correct. It is only stereo. I actually bought a combo pack that included the CD and DVD for like 2.00 more than the CD. If you have the CD, the picture won't really do much for you, unless candlelight reflecting off of Michael's dome floats your boat.
You're right about my list.
I actually started my 5.1 collection when I found a used copy of ELP's Brain Salad Surgery for 10.00 at my favorite used CD store. I didn't even have a DVD player, let alone a DVD-Audio player. I started with a first generation Panasonic DVD-Audio player. I then went with a Pioneer universal player (SACD/DVD-A). Overall, I was not happy with my system at the time, nor the player.
I finally got a sub, and better matching speakers. My best purchase, however, was the Oppo 981HD.
Thanks!
The first half of your list is DVD-Video, correct? And the second half is a mix of SACDs and DVD-A? I wish I could find some of those classic album releases on DVD-A (like Yes and ELP). I find mostly obscure stuff in the stores (when I can find any at all).
The Fragile DVD-Audio is fantastic. At one time, Rhino had Close To The Edge scheduled to be released as DVD-Audio. It was not to be due to poor sales of Fragile and Magnification in DVD-A.
As for Yes live, I highly recommend Symphonic Live. The picture and sound are both fantastic, as are the arrangements and performances. All that, and three great epic tracks- Close To The Edge, The Gates Of Delirium, and Ritual.
