I object to the cover used for most recent DVD of THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN.

It doesn't fit the "floating head" mold of the great bulk of this thread, but that cover art just doesn't represent "the movie" to me. It's just all wrong.
My DVD Collection

A fugitive moves on, through anguished tunnels of time, down dim streets, into dark corners. And each new day offers fear and frustration, tastes of honey and hemlock. But if there is a hazard, there is also hope. - Closing narration to THE FUGITIVE, "Death Is The Door Prize".

The Andromeda Strain cover is nice art, but based on my memories of reading the book a decade ago (haven't seen the film), I can see what you mean. I cannot think what that art is supposed to represent.

Most offensive to me, however, is the horrible mangling of the spelling of "Jurassic Park". I mean, honestly. Jurrasic Park? Do they bother spell-checking these things?

I don't see what's wrong with the About Schmidt cover. It's the same design they used for the theatrical posters.

I always liked the About Schmidt art myself. I think it really represents the tone of the movie.

I don't care for modern films. All crashing cars and close-ups of people's feet.

I was going to say it looked like my paperback cover, but it looks like the Terminal Man cover not the Andromeda Strain.

Eh, alot of these movies, such as Van Damme and Seagal movies, are crap anyways so their bad covers do not bother me.

This is Universal's UK version of HELL'S ANGELS which makes it seem as if Universal are trying to make it look like a cheap public domain issue:

Dumbest cover - MAN CALLED PETER

There is something about the picture o this cover that has been bugging me for weeks, but I couldn't put my finger on it till now.
The film ia about pastor Peter Marshall.
He is a pastor, not a Roman Catholic priest, yet Fox DVD cover has him in the white collar of a priest - something he never appears in , in the film.
Oye.

I think I can see a pattern here of why bad covers are just bad. Not using the theatrical poster art is one. Not using the original font or color scheme of the initial marketing campaign is another. Alot of these studios don't get it. If a movie is succesful and is popular don't try to reinvent it with some rushed new look for the product, because 99% it looks like garbage and is unappealing to everyone.

Now I say the Panic Room SE works though. The font and 2 color scheme grab your attention from all the visually busy covers that might be on the shelf around it. This also worked for a lot of laserdisc box sets. Seven, The Game, T2, Robocop. All you needed was the movie logo and some themed texture around it. Laserdiscs sure were classy back then:
