No, the art's the same - Will is on the slipcase, though. Lose the slipcase and you see a different image, but when you find the disc on the shelves in a couple of weeks, you're still gonna have Will on it in a big way...

Infernal Affairs... That is just a horrible title.

I do not know, something about seeing Jerry Seinfield's camel-toe/bulge is not all that appealing.

Also known as "Attack of the Giant Heads and the Running Man"

That DVD cover for R1 Infernal Affairs is horrible. It makes the recent cover of Hero look like a masterpiece.

Good thing I have the Media Asia Region 0 DVD so there's no need for me to upgrade it.

Yeah, Hero still hurts me. First, the image is totally misrepresentative. It looks like Jet Li's character is romantically involved with Ziyi Zhang's character. Secondly, they actually managed to make Ziyi look kinda ugly. Third, that insulting "Quentin Tarantino Presents" credit without even the DIRECTOR'S name on the cover! Lastly, someone pointed out that Jet's character is holding the wrong sword!! Jeez, them PS idiots!

They could have used this one:

I can't believe nobody's mentioned this one...so for my first official post on the forum, I will.

Legend of Drunken Master (originally Drunken Master II).

Probably the laziest DVD cover ever, among Asian movies re-released in America...and a total travesty, since this is one of my top three favorite Jackie Chan movies of all time. This was actually the theatrical poster, too. For shame...
(I'd post an image but the board won't let me, so maybe someone else can grab it off Amazon and post it for me.)

Hmm, I'm not allowed to post urls yet. But...

"TWENTIETH CENTURY" (1934)

Gets my vote as ugliest DVD cover ever. Looks like the cover of a Goodtimes Video public domain VHS in the $5.99 bin.

I found this thread late, so I'm replying now.

I work in a video store and this is what I heard...Will Smith walked into a vid store and became rabid when he didn't see his face on the cover, so whoever realsed the I, Robot DVD had to come up with a quick solution and decided with a slip cover instead of DVD replacements for N. America.

And someone mentioned the Conan the Barbarian artwork. At first, I hated it. But it's a painting and it's a realistic painting that I have grown to love.

The Matrix Revolutions was really the only one I had a problem with...that and floating heads with any DVD cover.

Some covers I HATE...

Dodgeball The poster I saw for it's theatrical release was so much better, with a simple shot of a guy laying flat on his back with his feet in the foreground. That poster made me laugh.

Money Train Since Jennifer Lopez "made it big" since this release, they put her big noggin on the cover (this was her first film BTW), leaving poor Wesley and Woody to play second fiddle. Luckily, the inside isert had the original artwork (with Wesley and Woody running in front of the train) so I inserted it into the plastic on the cover.

Another vote for all of the Jurassic Park covers. Yech!!!

The cover for the Speed 5 Star DVD is aweful, especially when compared to the laserdisc cover where Keanu and the bus got equal billing, I mean afterall, the bus was also a star of the film in a way.

I'm glad that Universal didn't mess up the cover for Three O'Clock High too badly, it still has the funny shot of Buddy grasping Jerry in his giant fist, but they chose to remove the artwork of the school in the background, now it's just white.

Ditto for Robocop. I've always loved that classic shot of him stepping out of the police car with his head looking directly at us.

One more, I hate the cover for Rudy which is one of my favorite films. It's not even Sean Astin on this cover! I don't know who it is those players are carrying, but it isn't him, and it isn't the real Rudy either.

I love covers that best represent the films and make you want to see that film. Two quick examples are What About Bob?, simple and very funny, luckily they kept it for the dvd cover. And also Swimming With Sharks with a simple shot similar to 'WaB?' with Kevin Spacey screaming into the face of Frank Whaley.

That's got to be some sort of rumor, I can't imagine anyone being so vain as to actually throw a fit if his/her picture isn't on a box.

Besides, he was the star of that film, I would imagine he saw what the dvd cover was going to look like at some point before it's release?

This is a load of nonsense. The slip covers with Smith on them have ALWAYS been part of the design. I got the DVD a month before it hit the shelves, and the slip cover was with it. That was part of the art that appeared well before screeners went out to us.

So don't believe stupid Internet rumors like this...

BTW, no one mentioned the atrocious Jersey Girl cover here, but it's one of the worst. Kevin Smith fans will be happy to note that he hates it and fought against it. He chats about it in the commentary for the Donnie Darko director's cut and calls it a "clusterf**k". (Darko director Richard Kelly also didn't like the original DVD packaging for HIS film...)

colin the slip covers arent on the rental copies, at least at blockbuster.

thats why they were sent new covers that had will on them instead of the robot.

see the memo i posted in #169 earlier.

Great - the point is that if they were added to rental copies later, it clearly wasn't because of some hissy fit from Smith. The covers with him on them were part of the design all along - I'd guess that the decision to send out rental copies WITHOUT the slipcase was a mistake that Fox then rectified with the memo you mentioned.

But anyway you look at it, the slipcases weren't "new" covers - they were part of the plan from the start...

i realize that colin.
i didnt say will himself was the reason it was changed. that was a different post.
i was saying the reason for the change was what was stated in the memo.

either way bbv never includes the slipcover on the rental copies, (only disney dvd's with slipcovers sometimes still do).
so whatever the actual dvd cover looks like is what it looks like when you rent from bbv.
the actual cover for i, robot only has robots on it.

i guess more people would really rent it if they saw will on and not the robots.

Just a friendly FYI, but the billboards for the film's theatrical release had the same artwork on them as is on the cover for the disc, along with the tagline One Man Saw It Coming.

I'm wondering what happened to the tagline!

I guess the obvious answer is that they are using Smith as a selling point and rightfully so. Although those that like Smith's sometimes mouthy attitude won't find that character in Detective Spooner.
