I don't know which studio has this title (originally
released on VHS under KEY VIDEO), but I would love
to see Twilight's Last Gleaming released to DVD.

It was one of the last Allied Artists releases. Fox Video once had it under a Lorimar license.

It is owned by Warner Brothers.

Now that is interesting.

I'll re-edit the thread title and hope Warner
gets a look at this.

It's actually good that this is owned by Warner.
A better chance it will get released as the studio
is just flooding the market with stuff like this.

I completely agree. My VHS copy could stand being retired, and I'd welcome the opportunity to view this title in full, as opposed to momentary, wide screen.

I love this film and I wish it would soon get an appropriate dvd release.

Just contacted Warner Bros. about this title.

As is always the case, they offered an immediate and
encouraging response....

TWILIGHT is most definitely our title...

There is no immediate plan for it, but prompted by your recommendation we'll investigate the feasibility.

I'd love a DVD of this film. I own the laser which is full frame but it suffers for it due to Aldrich constant use of the split screen.

Was Vera Miles' role as the First Lady restored in any home video versions? If not, could it be restored for any future DVD edition?

The First Lady character was never a part of any version of this film that I've ever seen.

I really hope "By Dawn's Early Light" sells really well. Then the owners of "Twilight's Last Gleaming" might perhaps reconsider their reluctance to release the film on DVD.

Ron I have some news about "Twilight's Last Gleaming". A Japanese R2 NTSC version is available from CD Japan. But as you can see by reading the description, it is not a worthy purchase. It is Fullscreen on the full-length version (Just like my Laserdisc) & the Widescreen version is cut for some unimaginable reason by 54 minutes. I almost wet my pants when I saw the film's name in the newsletter I get from CD Japan. I was then bitterly disappointed when I read the linked page.

That's very interesting.

I have to look and see which version I have on VHS.

I believe the 144-minute version has always been
available here.

One good thing comes out of all this....

The appearance of this DVD anywhere gives a more
hopeful sign that we are closer to a domestic release.

....besides I was able to get the personal attention
of some people at Warner Bros. to get this title into
production.

As long as it has the proper aspect ratio & running time. I was so amazed at the 90 minute running time of the one version. I can't imagine how a person can follow the plot with 54 minutes of it missing!!! What a mess that must be.

Anymore news on this, it has been a year and a half?

BTW, I did buy "By Dawn's Early Light" also a good movie.

John,

I am sort of surprise this title hasn't been
announced yet.

I do know for a fact Warner had been working on it.

I am guessing that it will be out in a few months.
The studio is probably waiting for the proper window
to release this DVD.

No news....then again, I haven't asked.

I was told first-hand from the studio early 2005
that it was put into production for DVD release.

I would think the title is ready to go, just
awaiting a release window.

I guess this not being announced in WB's BIG announcement can be taken as perhaps not real great news. (Possible future announcement) I just hope WB doesn't sit on a "ready to go out the door to the stores" DVD with this title like FOX did with "All That Jazz". As mentioned in the prior post, what kind of a "window" they are waiting for?

Once again, what is the release status of this film? Or has said "window" been shut?

The studio says 2007. It will be released as part of an upcoming Burt
Lancaster set.

Re: Please release "Twilight's Last Gleaming" (Warner Bros.?)

That's a little later than I'd prefer to see, but later is better than NEVER, as in "Robinson Crusoe on Mars" & Paramount! I certain hope it is the proper length & AR. I'd love a nice set of extras if possible. I'm curious about the other Lancaster films. Hopefully "Twilight's Last Gleaming" will be available on its own if I deem the other films in the set as titles I'm not interested in. Thanks for the new & positive news on this favorite film.

Re: Please release "Twilight's Last Gleaming" (Warner Bros.?)

Bob,

The studio has gone silent.

Last I spoke with them, the title was due for release this year.

I have to be limited in what I say here, but there was one
additional item that the studio wanted to consider that may
be coming into play here that could still preventing this release.

I am confident that this title is still in the works, but having
a little more insight into what may be happening, I think the
studio is intentionally delaying TLG in order to offer
the best possible release it can.

Re: Please release "Twilight's Last Gleaming" (Warner Bros.?)

My optimism from 18 months ago has left. I'm now unhappy with the delaying of the release of this title. The only thing in my mind that really justifies a continued long term delay is if we're going to get a multi-disc extra packed Blu-Ray release. If there is no possible Blu-Ray release on the horizon, then get the title out the door!
