The Quick and The Dead DTS-ES Discrete? Is that really accurate?

No, that was a typo as per an earlier post. I deleted it.

i read through several of the faqs but didnt see any reference to this.

by the way pirates comes out on dec 2nd.

Because, if you only have a decoder capable of playing back a DTS-ES Discrete 6.1 track as matrix, the ES 6.1 track is still compatible with those older decoders.

ok, so if it is a discrete rear track, then it is also a matrix by default.
so doesn't that make that part of the list redundent?

Exactly why they are listed twice. To eliminate any assumptions and misnomers I show they are compatible with both, because they are and most people are unaware of that. This lists caters to the old and the new and by the titles showing in both, everyone is informed.

Question - Can you all confirm if LOTR:EE and TTT:EE are DD-EX 5.1 AND dts-es matrix 6.1 OR dts-es discrete 6.1.

I know it has dd-ex 5.1 but basically is the dts matrix, discrete or both?

Yup, same with my HK, definitely discrete (the box is accurate in these cases). Many say the TTT EX is better than the ES...next time I'll try that track.

I just added in a 6th speaker for the back, so I'm newe to this.

My receiver has a manual setting for Dolby EX and DTS ES Matrixed that I can put on pretty much any DVD, even if it's not flagged for EX or ES. So, this just means it's taking the back two channels and trying to create a 6th channel, right? Is that usually a good thing, or do you all find that it is better just to leave it alone?

Also, on Pirates of the Carribean, which is the better track to listen to: The Dolby EX, or the DTS Matrix? Usually I would guess DTS, but I'm not very familiar with DTS Matrix.

If you only have one row of seating, and the surround speakers are to your sides or slightly behind you, I would not use a Matrix derived rear channel.

If you have two rows of seats, and people are in the back row, and the surrounds are slightly in front of them, I WOULD use the matrix for the rear channel.

For ordinary men, it's a burning, fiery furnace.

I actually preferred the DD track on this disc.

Troy, seeing how DVD-A is a struggling format and DTS CD is a dead format why not change or add DVD-A to the DTS ES CD heading. Perhaps if readers see DVD-A has DTS ES tracks perhaps it will help the format.

I thought Hollow Man Superbit had a DTS ES matrix, at least on my system it appears as so. Can anyone confirm this?

I've also heard that Men In Black 2 and Kiss of the Dragon were EX (and so MIB 2 Superbit DTS ES matrix), should those be added to the list?

Star Trek V is billed as plain DD 5.1, but it triggered 5.1 EX on my system.

Anyone else find this to be true?
