Mapquest - Find Directions

Do you use any of the online map and driving direction services?
I love these location finders, but I have a request.
There used to be one that, after giving you a route, would offer a link to SHORTEST DRIVING DISTANCE. It was not the main roads trip, but rather the shortest distance, no matter how complicated and slow.
I've lost whatever site had that option, and I want it back!
By the way, look for directions from one town to another near you and don't give an address. It never fails to amuse me what odd corner of town the computer sends you to.

Found it!

http://maps.live.com.

Really, it wasn't lost, it was gone.

This is something new, dedone, whatever.

As an example, I had it give me directions from my house in Texas to Northampton MA.

The "shortest route" involved 127 turns.

The "quickest route" was about 60 turns.

Its a great way to find back roads.

Re: Mapquest - Find Directions

Google Maps has a feature whereby you can choose to avoid highways. Sometimes I use that when I'm looking for a more scenic drive.

Google maps now has an "avoid highways" option. (Get directions, then click the check box at the top of your route description) Plus, you can now interactively drag your route to include roads/streets you want to use along the way.

I used it to find the least traveled/shortest distance so I could ride my bike to work. But, it'd be great for planning more scenic trips by say, motorcycle.

Google rocks.

Re: Mapquest - Find Directions

Mapquest has a shortest route option, i used it the other day. After you type in all the information and it gives you the fastest route, there is a drop box on the right side of the page that gives you the option for shortest distance, or to avoid highways.
