That's good news about the CG animated show coming next year, but I'm very bummed to hear that the live action show is targeted near the end of the decade. I'd hoped for it sometime in 2007 or 2008, but I guess that just isn't going to happen.

I'd like to see a Star Wars series this second but I can't argue with them taking their time and getting it right. A live action series seems like it will be hard thing to do well so the more time they have to plan, I'm good with it. I'm even OK with the Clone Wars CG series having its run for a few years and ending and then doing a live action series after that.

Now that George Lucas has my input on the matter, he can procede.

Good point, Travis. The live action show is obviously something that shouldn't be rushed into without a lot of careful planning.

Glad to hear the animation will be similar to Toy Story. While the writing for the Clone Wars cartoon was very good. I couldn't stand the animation.
My only request for the animated show...If you do show established characters. Please use the real actors voice! If you show Mace Windu. Get Samuel L.Jackson to do the voice. If you are going to do it...do it right.

Bring back John Doe! Or at least resolve the cliff-hanger with a 2hr movie or as an extra on a dvd release.

SLJ would lend his voice to a CG animated version of "The Man" if the price was right.

I hope they explore more of "Life Day" with Chewbacca's wife, kid and Bea Arthur. I dont think the last TV show exploited enough of that golden material.

To that end, Conan O'Brien recently teased Harrison Ford about the Star Wars Holiday Special, going so far as to show a clip from the special on his show. It's floating around the net somewhere and worth seeing for Ford's reaction.

I don't have time enough to watch all these DVDs!

Oh I know. My friend bought a copy off EBay. It took every ounce of will to sit through it.

It goes beyond bad... its downright disturbing.

I had a buddy get me a copy of the infamous Holiday Special a few months back because I wanted to see if it was really as bad as everyone was saying. Well, it wasn't just bad......it's probably the worst thing I've ever seen in my life! All the people who bitch and moan about the prequels should be forced to sit through the HS just so they can see something by Lucas that is TRULY AWFUL.

I have it somewhere. It truly was horrible. But, it did introduce Boba Fett...in a cartoon.

By the way. If anyone has a link to the Conan bit with Ford. Can you link to it??

I don't think George Lucas had anything to do with the Holiday Special (besides creating the characters, planets, etc. from the movie).

IMDB does list him as one of the writers on the show.

Actually I think GL was involved because I believe his name was the first one when the credits rolled(I'll have to check the disc to be sure, though). I don't know if he directed it or what his actual involvement was, but I do know that he's said he would like to hunt down every copy of that show in existence and have them all destroyed. After watching it I can totally see where he's coming from.

Here's a little update to the animated / live action shows:

there's a link to an audio clip of Lucas chatting about them.

Re: Star Wars the TV show?....

If the new animated show is as cool as Clone Wars, we have nothing to worry about. When I eventually do my Star Wars movie marathon, I'm setting aside two hours to include Clone Wars.

The live action show seems further off (2009? 2010?) but I remain hopeful it can be a mature show along the lines of Babylon 5 or the new Battlestar, instead of a juvenile show along the lines of the old Battlestar or Voyager.

Interesting that they kept the same character designs from the 2D Clone Wars animated series.

Re: Star Wars the TV show?....

100 eps sounds like about 5 years. Can even Lucas get a guarantee of 5 years from a commercial network? Granted, fan interest will be high, but can it sustain 5 years? The suits who make these decisions care about one thing only and that's bottom line. Trek--I know it's probably poor taste to mention it in the same breath as SW--only lasted three seasons and Young Indiana Jones less than that and both were good shows.

That's wrong. The live action show won't focus on the Clone Wars. The article was incorrect about that.

Re: Star Wars the TV show?....

Yup. The live-action show takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope while The Clone Wars is the focus of the animated show.

Personally, I think it's on the backburner since alot of Lucas' focus is on the cartoon and I assume they're either working on or trying to get Redtails going too. Also, I think they also said that they wanted to write and shoot the entire season before they even sell the rights to air the show to a network.
